7 Ohio State has... One of the finest volleyball locker rooms in the country. It is shaped in a Block O. St. John Arena, an outstanding volleyball playing venue that has hosted numerous NCAA women s first and second round matches and four men s NCAA national championships. Charter flights to Big Ten matches to reduce missed class time. Challenging competition, playing in one of the most competitive conferences in the country and top non-league opponents, both at home and on the road. Had nine players (Laura Davis, Audrey DiPronio, Jen Flynn, Jenny Jackson, Gabrielle Jobst, Mary Ormsby, Tricia Stragliotto, Anna Szerszen, Vanessa Wouters) play for the United States, Canadian, French and Belgium National Team programs. Had 11 players continue their volleyball experience on the professional level in Europe and the USA. Been to the NCAA national semifinals twice in the last 19 years with the Big Ten Conference being represented in the semifinals 15 times in the last 23 years. Has had Jen Flynn set for the USA National Team, leading the squad to a Silver Medal at the 2002 World Championships. 10

Ohio State is one of six Big Ten teams to reach the NCAA championship semifinals (Ohio State, Penn State, Illinois, Michigan State, Minnesota, Wisconsin). Ohio State has had six Big Ten Players of the Year (Holly O Leary, Leisa Wissler, Laura Davis, Vanessa Wouters and Stacey Gordon (twice). Ohio State has had six Big Ten Conference Freshmen of the Year (Laura Davis, Leisa Wissler, Jenny Jackson, Dana Stearns, Katie Virtue and Stacey Gordon). Ohio State had three student-athletes named to the Big Ten All-Decade Team (Holly O Leary, Lisa Bettio and Leisa Wissler). 9 head coach geoff carlston The Mission of The Ohio State Volleyball Program has three components, none less important and each essential to our TEAM SUCCESS. First is to prepare and develop our student-athletes for what lies ahead of them once they have played their last collegiate match, I absolutely believe the game of volleyball, being a part of something greater than any one individual, is an incredible stage to learn the skills necessary to succeed on life s path. Becoming a leader while learning how to listen, owning up to your faults and being proud of your strengths, realizing obstacles and challenges are a part of every worthy journey, and understanding that nothing worthwhile is earned without complete dedication and passion. Ohio State volleyball players will leave our program with the tools necessary to make a positive impact in the world. Secondly, Ohio State volleyball players will learn to connect and give back to communities and people. Just as the TEAM is larger than any one individual, our players will understand there is a world outside of the volleyball court where they can make a difference. Community action, helping kids, elderly and others in times of need will be woven into the culture of the program. Ohio State volleyball players will leave our program with experiences that will allow them to positively influence the lives of other people. Finally, Ohio State volleyball players will live daily in a program culture that expects and demands excellence in all they do. In both their academic and athletic lives, our student athletes will learn to become the best versions of themselves through setting high goals, being disciplined and challenging who they are on every level. By focusing our energy on the process of being great, Ohio State volleyball players will understand what it takes to become a champion on the court and in the classroom. WHAT DO WE ASPIRE TO BE? 10 On becoming a leader One of the key pillars to the Ohio State volleyball program is the high value placed on developing leadership. Whether you are a freshman or a senior, we challenge our players to become strong leaders both on and off the court. How they interact, how they communicate, how they respond in moments of adversity I firmly believe that every day there are opportunities to become a better version of ourselves. Being a part of the Ohio State volleyball program is a special chance in your life to reach your potential personally. When that time comes to hang up the uniform and move on to the next chapters of their lives, Ohio State volleyball players will be prepared to lead as they move along their career and life path. On being a part of an amazing team We go on a retreat at the beginning of each season to lay the foundation for becoming a true TEAM. We are off campus, together in a fun environment for the purpose of laying the foundations for becoming one as a group. If you are playing for the Ohio State volleyball team you are among the elite athletes in the nation. I believe that TEAMS win championships, that talent and chemistry together allow you to reach the highest levels in sport. Our players do a lot together to build team dynamic and the result is a family and connection to one another that is unique. Once you are a part of the Ohio State volleyball family you have friends that will support you throughout your college career and your life. On setting high expectations and goals Ohio State volleyball players strive for excellence in everything they do. Our team competitive goals are to win the Big Ten Championship and a National Championship. We want our players to see the world by playing professionally overseas after their college careers, an adventure many have done in the past and more will do each year. Playing for Ohio State volleyball provides and excellent opportunity to play for your country on the U.S. National Teams as well. Recruits who want to play at the highest level possible in their collegiate careers and on the international level will find the perfect home at Ohio State University. 11 ACADEMIC SUCCESS Ohio State has earned the and Game- Plan/American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award. The AVCA Team Academic Award honors volleyball teams at the high school and college level that are successful in the classroom. Nominees include high school or college teams that have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.30 (on a 4.00 scale) during the full academic year (both semesters or all quarters), and include all varsity athletes who competed in volleyball with the institution for any portion of the academic year. The AVCA academic award is something we talked about with the girls when we arrived this spring, Geoff Carlston, Ohio State head coach, said. To see our players motivation to go out and achieve this goal, hopefully indicative of how they respond to a challenge. Chelsea Noble was an ESPN The Magazine District IV Academic All- American second team selection in 2008 and a third team selection in
