3 Important information about walking with us New to walking? Always contact the walk leader in advance for advice. Always contact walk leader if you haven t walked with our group before the walk is more than 20 miles from Derby there is bad weather or unusual circumstances if you prefer to meet at the walk start rather than Darley Park Drive cp (DPD cp) you will travel by public transport Changes to walks: Changes to the longer Sunday walks (eg because of bad weather) will be advertised on our website and in the Derby Evening Telegraph Saturday edition under Walk Diary. For possible changes to the shorter Sunday walks please contact the leader. If in any doubt contact the leader. Changes to Wednesday walks are via text & phone messages please contact leaders. Car sharing/ lifts: Most of the longer Sunday walks first meet at Darley Park Drive cp in Derby (SK349390) to share cars. If you need a lift contact the walk leader in advance. Don t forget a clean change of footwear and a bag for dirty boots. The shorter Sunday walks and Wednesday walks do not meet at DPD cp so contact the leader regarding car-share possibilities. Car share costs: passengers are expected to share travel costs (usually 20p per mile divided by number of people in the car) plus any parking charges. Refreshments: Unless stated, all walks require packed lunch and drinks for the day. Dogs are allowed only at walk leader s discretion - always contact the leader before bringing your dog. It must be on lead and well behaved. Non-members: You are welcome to walk with us 2-3 times after which we expect you to support the Ramblers by becoming a member. Liability: Neither the Group nor the walk leader can accept responsibility for any loss or injury by persons taking part in the walks. Mountain Rescue: Telephone 999, ask for the Police and then request Mountain Rescue. Footpath problems: Please notify our Footpath Secretary of any obstructions or other issues, giving full details and grid reference. D&SD Group walks: We all appreciate the work of volunteers, in particular the walk leaders. We can help to make their role easier by: respecting the walk leader s requests keeping them well in sight (leaders should also make sure they do not get too far ahead) offering to be a back marker being sensitive to other walkers' abilities ensuring new walkers to the group are made to feel welcome. Grades If in doubt contact the leader in advance. Walks of about 4/5 miles a good introduction to walking with a group Walks of up to 10 but at a slower pace with longer - possibly more frequent breaks Walks of over 10 miles taken at a good pace Longer walks and/or more strenuous Page 3 of 12
