This walk is a shorter walk that includes a gentle incline that is safe and has a non slip surface. Sunday 27th October Start Time: 10am from Ensay Walks include: Bentley Plain Walk: 1 hour/2.5km Douglas Reserve Walk: mins/400m Meeting at the Little River Inn, Ensay at 10am. Returning 3.30pm Gravel Road Access. 2WD in dry conditions. Limited AWD car pooling available. Bring: Closed toe shoes, Jacket, Water bottles & Umbrella (just in case). BYO picnic lunch & camp chair. Tea & Coffee provided. These walks are not suitable for prams or walking aids. Located in the Nunniong State Forest, 30km north of Ensay, Omeo District Health and Department of Environment and Primary Industries (DEPI) invites you to come along and enjoy a guided walk through sphagnum moss beds surrounded by mountain gum and alpine ash forest. Walks are formed tracks that include short steep hills and some obstacles including steps and logs. Walks include boardwalks, viewing platforms and informative signage. Many opportunities for photos so visitors are encouraged to bring along a camera. Some bush walking experience is recommended. Picnic Areas with tables, wood pit BBQ s, Bush Hilton Hut and Moscow Villa log Cabins are featured on site and Earth Pit Toilet facilities are available. 3 Port to Picnic Point Wednesday 23rd October Start time 10am Approx 2 hr walk (return) Meet at the Port of Bairnsdale along the Mitchell River. Bring: water bottle and money for fruit at the picnic point farm. This walk is suitable for prams. It is not suitable for walking frames and wheelchairs. The walk will commence at the Port of Bairnsdale and continue along the Mitchell River, under the Lind Bridge and on to Picnic Point Apple Farm to get some fruit for morning tea before heading back to the Port of Bairnsdale. The walk along the river features great views from the picnic point reserve a small park situated beside the Mitchell River, small wetlands with wooden bridges and plenty of bird life. The walk is mostly a flat dirt track with a few rises, with a hill at the rise of the Picnic Point Reserve. Kelly Fitzgerald East Gippsland Primary Care Partnership Ph; Fairy Dell Walk Tuesday 1st October Start Time: 10.30am 45 Minute Walk. Meet at the Fairy Dell Car Park. Take Deep Creek Road at Wiseleigh (2kms West of Bruthen). Drive 8kms to Fairy Dell Picnic Area. Bring: Hats, Water bottles. This walk is not suitable for prams and walking aids. The Fairy Dell Scenic Reserve is located approximately 10 km west of Bruthen, featuring a 48 hectare section of rain forest, the likes of which are only found in a handful of locations throughout East Gippsland. The reserve has a picnic area along a fern lined gully leading to the Fairy Dell, a small cleared square at the end of very green and cool gully. Known as a secret meeting place deep in the dark shady corner of the garden, on Fairy Dell Walk you pass beneath towering tree ferns in an area that seems a bit like a pocket of forest that time forgot and is almost spooky but very beautiful at the same time. On the outskirts of Bruthen, this reserve is a lovely spot to visit with a picnic and walking trail, ample car parking toilets, picnic tables & barbeques. 4 Kalimna Views Walk Wednesday 2nd October Start Time: 11am 60 Minute Walk From Lakes Entrance Boat Ramp Car Park Bring: Suitable Shoes, Hats, Water bottles, Sunscreen & Camera. This walk is not suitable for prams and walking aids due to steps & gravel. This 4 km circuit features much of the beautiful views and scenery that the Gippsland Lakes has to offer so don t forget to bring the camera. The walk is a grade 1-2, with uneven gravel on the steps down to Kalimna Jetty. It includes an incline up Kalimna Hill, and decline down stairs towards Kalimna Jetty which will get the heart rate going. There are toilets and taps available on the way, or in the car park on arrival/return. The walk will be guided by Megan Bourne from Gippsland Lakes Community Health. (2km Mt Hotham side of Omeo off Great Alpine Road) BBQ will be available from 6.30pm at a small cost Bring: Closed toe Shoes (sneakers or boots recommended), Jacket & Water bottles. This walk is not suitable for prams or walking aids. *sorry no pets allowed. Omeo District Health and Parks Victoria invite you to come along and enjoy one or both walks around the claims. View many of the mining relics, caves and sites on these short walks around the claims as well as take in some of the wondrous native flora and fauna found in the National Park land. Located within the historic Oriental Claims the Ah Fongs and Pioneer Claims Loops take you on a journey through one of the districts significant gold mining areas of the 19 th Century. No experience required. The track is hardened gravel surface and has gentle hill sections and some steps. Parking, toilet and picnic facilities available at the Oriental Claims Picnic Area. 5 Walk around the Wetlands Thursday 17th October Start Time: 9am 1.2km walk. From Bairnsdale Aquatic Recreation Centre Entrance Bring: Suitable Shoes, Hats, Water bottles, Sunscreen. This walk is suitable for prams, wheelchairs and walking aids. The walk around the wetland is located behind the Bairnsdale Aquatic and Recreational Centre, McKean St, Bairnsdale. It features a 1.2km long walk, following a paved path around the wetland. There is seating at intervals around the path, for those who need a rest and there are opportunities to view the bird life in the area. The walk is suitable for less-able people, including those in wheelchairs or who use walking aids. It also may interest people who have attended rehabilitation programs or have been advised by their doctor to walk more or are just wanting to start walking. Fruit and refreshments available on completion. Buchan Caves Reserve Walk Monday s 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th October. Start time: 1.30pm 1hr walk (return) Meet at the Buchan Bush Nursing Centre. Bring: Water bottle if desired. This walk is suitable for prams. Walking frames will be a bit difficult as some of the terrain is a bit uneven. The Buchan Caves Reserve walk will commence at 1.30pm from the Buchan Bush Nursing Centre along Caves Rd to the Buchan Caves Reserve and then back to the Bush Nursing Centre. The walk wis approximately 2.2km round trip. This walk will take place on each Monday of October starting from the 7th. All community members are welcome to attend this walk which is part of the Healthy Heart Program. Rest room facilities are located at both the Bush Nurse Centre and the Buchan Caves Reserve. 6 Macleod Morass Boardwalk Thursday 10th October Start time: 12.30pm Approx 15-30min walk Meet at walking sign post near car park at Bosworth Road Car Park (1.3 km east of Forge Creek Road just off the Princes Highway). Bring: Insect repellent as mosquitoes are around due to the water. This walk is not suitable for prams or wheelchairs. Set in the Macleod Morass State Game Reserve this walk is a perfect example of one of the few remaining deep fresh water marshes in Victoria. It is a very easy walk of only about 500 metres, with interpretive displays included. Large numbers of waterfowl, like swamphens, ducks, egrets are visible on one side, and reed dwellers occupy another area but are harder to view. Dependant on water levels, birdlife varies but is still prolific. Walk to the Entrance Wednesday 16th October Start Time: 11am 2hr 15 minute Walk. From Lakes Entrance Footbridge Bring: Suitable Shoes, Hats, Water bottles, Sunscreen & Camera. This walk is not suitable for prams and walking aids due to sand. The walk to the entrance will take you along a 5km circuit featuring pretty views and scenery of the Gippsland Lakes offering ample opportunity for photos so don t forget the camera. The majority of the walk will take place on sandy tracks, a grade 1-2 allowing for sandy sections. The track has different level inclines along the way, which will get the heart rate up. This walk is for all fitness levels and ages and everyone is welcome. There are toilets at the footbridge on arrival and return and half way around the 5km circuit. This walk will be guided by Megan Bourne of Gippsland Lakes Community Health.
