HAZARD IDENTIFICATION AND CONTROL MEASURES: Step 1 Identify significant hazards List of significant hazards (something with the potential to cause harm) (1) Pupils running in uncontrolled manner around the museum and/or grounds Pupils running in uncontrolled manner around the museum and/or grounds Step 2 Identify who might be harmed and how Who might be harmed? Bruises Step 3 identify precautionary measures already in place Existing controls (4) (Actions already taken to control the risk - Include procedure for the task/activity where these are specified) Booking form sent to school states that for every 8 pupils there must be 1 teacher or adult and that the adults must stay with the children and supervise them for the whole visit. Booking form also informs teachers that they are in loco parentis and must have signed and returned the booking form to say that they have understood this. There is a first aid kit, first aid trained staff and accident reporting booking on site. The booking form states that responsibility for first aid rests with the teachers. 2 Pupils getting lost in the Hall or wandering off on their own Pupils lost, scared, alone, crying, upset, unable to return to group Adult with bad intentions Teachers and adults must properly supervise the children, booking form sent to school states that for every 8 pupils there must be 1 teacher or adult and that the adults must stay with the children and supervise them for the whole visit. If staff found a child alone they would return them to the session that they should be in. Hall staff are unknown to school teachers Pupils, young adults towards children cause harm, take photos, touch inappropriately etc All staff at the Hall (both responsible for leading sessions and rest of staff) have enhanced DBS disclosures. All staff will demonstrate exemplary behaviour. Pupil (or teacher) becoming ill whilst on a visit to Hall Fire alarm sounding in main Hall or lunch room Pupil in wheelchair or with severe mobility difficulties upstairs in Hall House being cold in autumn and winter (due to its historic nature) Pupils, teacher Pupils, teachers and staff Pupil and teachers sickness, vomiting, need to return home Trapped in the building unable to escape, burns, smoke inhalation, death Trapped in building in case of fire or need to evacuate quickly Cold, chill, shivering There is a first aid kit, first aid trained staff and accident reporting booking on site. Hall staff can take pupil with a teacher to a room with toilet where they can be away from group and can phone home for child to be collected if necessary. Fire escape procedure in place for school visits; regularly practiced with Hall staff. Teachers are told fire procedure on arrival at the Hall. Craft Activities in the basement are accessible as there are no steps. The ground floor will need to be assessed on an individual basis to see if possible for pupil to enter as there are some steps. Pupils in wheelchairs can not be carried up and down the spiral or main staircases as they can not be evacuated quickly in an emergency, Heaters switched on in rooms where activities are held, teachers advised that the Hall can be cold in winter and that pupils should dress accordingly.
