2 welcome WELCOME TO PRIDEFEST 2018! Welcome to the 28th year of Pride in WA. It is amazing how much has changed since the first Pride event all those years ago. We continue to embrace change and strive to produce a festival that inspires and celebrates our diverse community and culture in WA. I m delighted to announce that applications are now open for Pride WA s 28th annual Pride Parade, which will be held on Saturday 24th November Running from 3rd November to 25th November, PrideFEST is a month long festival of arts, culture and community events staged in Perth and around Western Australia. This year our theme is Together. The Committee feels that this is a particularly important and relevant theme as people around the world continue to face violence and inequality and sometimes torture, even execution because of who they love, how they look, or who they are. It is up to all of us together as we work towards a world where all people can enjoy their rights fully. At a constantly moving forward pace, it takes approximately 40 minutes for entrants to march from start to finish PRIDEFEST THEME: TOGETHER This year our theme is Together. 4 fees & application process Pride WA charges a small fee to entrants to cover the costs for staging the parade. Fees are set according to the size and type of the entry. Fee payments are due by 5pm on Friday 9th November Entry into the parade will not be granted until Pride WA has received full registration fee payment PRIDE PARADE ENTRY FEES CATEGORY COST Individual Member of the LGBTIQ Community $10 Unfunded Community Group $100 Funded Community/ Political Group $350 Corporate or Government $ PRIDE PARADE APPLICATION PROCESS 1. Submit a completed application form by 5pm, Friday 9th November (These are designed to give a brief outline of your plans for the 2018 parade. Yourideas do not need to be fully but as a starting point to discuss.) 2. Pay entry fee by 5pm Friday 9th November It is paramount that at least one member of your group attends the onwednesday 21st November at 6pm. Address for to be provided closer to the date. This is to provide participants with the opportunity to clear up any remainingquestions after viewing a quick presentation on how the parade works.you will also collect your participants pack, which contains information onyour time and location for arrival, and wristbands for your groups participantsto the Parade and the Pride Parade After Party.

5 guidelines & restrictions Pride WA encourage you to dream big about your Parade entry, however listed below are a few restrictions to ensure that the parade is both safe and aligns with Pride WA s values. Entries in the parade will be subject to checking by both Pride WA and Western Australia Police prior to the commencement of the parade to ensure safety for both participants and spectators. LINE UP ORDER Parade placement is at the sole discretion of Pride WA. The parade order is an important part of ensuring that the parade is fun and exciting for all. Each group must stay in its section for the duration of the parade. Pride WA Parade Marshalls will be assigned to ensure the correct line-up occurs. EMERGENCY ACCESS LANES Emergency access lanes within the assembly area and along the Parade route are designated emergency access lanes. These will be communicated to you at the Entrants Briefing and at Registration on the day of the Parade. Emergency access lanes are for the use of all emergency services vehicles before and during the Parade. These lanes must be kept clear at all times. Any vehicles, people and props within these lanes will be removed. MOVEMENT Gaps in the parade hinder everyone s enjoyment of the overall parade. To avoid this, groups are expected to be moving forward at all times unless stopped by Pride WA volunteers, WA Police or event security. All choreography needs to be forward moving no standing still or going backwards. If your group is asked to move on, or increase pace, please do so without delay. COMPLYING WITH LAW All entrants and their vehicles are required to comply with the law, including traffic laws and the directions of law enforcement officers. The Parade route is not exempt therefore authorities are within their right and will enforce the law to act on any breaches at their discretion.

6 guidelines & restrictions INTERACTION Entrants must follow the directions of Pride WA management, staff, volunteers, event security and the Western Australian police at all times. All entrants must respect other entrants despite conflicting views or beliefs. RESTRICTIONS Restricted items include animals, fire, open flames, pyrotechnics (fireworks), flares, fire batons, fire breathing, sparklers, sparks, welding, weapons or imitation weapons, hazardous or flammable goods and goods prohibited by law. Other restrictions include full-frontal nudity of lower genitalia, solicitation of funds, and campaigning. Laws relating to the use of public space, car registration, driving under the influence, the consumption of alcohol and other drugs all remain in place during the Parade. Personal interaction with the crowd is encouraged - this makes the crowd feel welcome and increases the impact of the Parade. However, participants are not permitted to throw projectiles (lollies, condoms etc.) into the crowd. Pride WA aim to be as environmentally friendly as possible, and this extends to keeping our parade route clean. As such, whilst the use of confetti cannons is condoned we ask that the cannons are streamer based and not small pieces. The Parade and start area are alcohol free zones and police have the power to confiscate or dispose of alcohol found in these areas.

7 vehicles One of the first things to consider when you re planning your Parade entry is how your entry will be transported. Traditionally a parade is comprised of floats, each pulled by a motorised vehicle. However, entries can also feature bicycles, motorbikes, walking groups.the list goes on! Whatever your form of transport through the parade, it must be eye-catching and related to the theme that you are presenting. Any vehicles used in the parade must be registered with all drivers holding an appropriate licence for the vehicle they are driving. License and registration checks will take place before the parade and breath tests may also occur. Here are some suggestions of vehicles you might want to consider: UTES Utes are useful for carrying the lighting and sound for walking or marching groups. As a parade entry, they won t have much impact unless they are inventively disguised or decorated. TWO TONNE TRUCK Slightly bigger than a ute, these have trays that can carry a small group of people. You will need to decorate the cab of the vehicle. Must have handrails for anyone standing on the tray. FLAT BED TRUCK (two, four, six, or eight tonne) Depending on the size, flat bed trucks feature low-to-the-ground platforms that can accommodate larger groups and theming. You will need to decorate the cab of the vehicle. Must have handrails for anyone standing on the tray. CONVERTIBLES Convertibles are well-suited to parades, providing an opportunity for participants to be visible above the body of the vehicle. MINIBUS OR VAN Useful for looking out of, not much good if you want to be seen. Vans are a good option for participants who may be less mobile. Again, make sure the exterior of the vehicle is decorated to maximise your visibility and impact!

8 preparing your vehicle POINTS TO KEEP IN MIND When decorating your vehicle, don t cover the radiator or electrics with anything as doing so could risk overheating and/or a fire. Make sure that both number plates are visible at all times. Plan your travel route to the parade and ensure that the total dimensions of your vehicle and float are less than 2.4m wide, 4.2m high, and 11m long. Ensure that the vehicle can support the size, dimensions and weight of the entry. Headlights, wipers and horn must be in working order. Use an automatic vehicle. Manual vehicle are prone to breakdowns due to excessive clutch usage. Ensure the vehicle has a first aid kit, a standard tool kit and a water bottle in case of overheating. All vehicles must carry a fire extinguisher. Avoid 8 cylinder engines as they are prone to overheating. Bring a spare key. A driver MUST stay with the vehicle at all times. Fill up your fuel tank and check tyre air pressure before arriving at the assembly area. During the parade you may be asked to speed up pace, slow down, stop or pull over due to an emergency situation or for safety reasons. Directions from Parade Officials and authorities must be observed at all times.

The route for the 2018 Parade is still being finalised. Details of the route will be communicated to all stakeholders closer to the time. WHO CAN BE IN THE PARADE? Anybody can be in the Parade regardless of age, gender or sexual orientation. The purpose of your entry should be to demonstrate support for the LGBTIQ community through the message your entry displays. WHAT IS THE THEME OF THIS YEAR S PARADE? This year our theme is Together. The Committee feels that this is a particularly important and relevant theme as people around the world continue to face violence and inequality and sometimes torture, even execution because of who they love, how they look, or who they are. It is up to all of us together as we work towards a world where all people can enjoy their rights fully. ARE THERE PRIZES FOR THE BEST ENTRY? Yes there are! The prize categories will be determined closer to the date, but there will be a prize-giving ceremony after the Parade concludes. Details of the prize-giving ceremony will be provided closer to the parade date. WHAT SORT OF TRANSPORT CAN GO IN THE PARADE? Your float can be comprised of a team of walkers, bicycles, utes, trucks, convertibles and other pushables (anything on a pushable frame with wheels). Remember that your transport is visible, so dress it up to make it a part of your entry! WHAT MAKES A FANTASTIC PARADE ENTRY? There are many ways to increase the visual impact of your float and contribute to the colour and spectacle of the Parade. Consider using lightweight flags, carriables, costumes, choreography and internal lighting to lend height, visibility, colour and uniqueness to your entry, and remember that the Internet is a great resource for brainstorming your float.

The pricings differ depending if you are an individual, an unfunded community group of between 2-50 people, a funded community or political group, or a corporate or government body. The more the merrier, up to a maximum of 50 people per entry. Make sure the you have on board. HOW FAST DOES THE PARADE MOVE? The Parade is designed to be continually move forward at walking pace. If your entry is unable to maintain this rate, gaps begin to appear and audiences walk away with a less cohesive picture of the Parade as a whole. you are using choreography! WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE PARADE? After the parade there will be a prize-giving ceremony for the most notable entries. All entrants and spectators are then invited to attend Parade After Party!
