S4C is now available outside Wales, in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland on Virgin Media Channel 167, where it can already be found in Wales. The very first red button match with English-language commentary on Virgin Media will be the Corbett Sports Welsh Premier League top of the table clash between Bangor and The New Saints on Sgorio this Saturday, from 4.45pm with a 5.00pm kick-off. Geraint Rowlands, S4C's Head of Broadcast and Commissioner for Sport and Events. "This is great news for Virgin Media customers throughout the UK. Before the move to the new stadium at Nantporth, this was the reality of almost a century of football in the heart of Bangor. On Saturday 1st December, the Bangor City Supporters Association launched a book to commemorate those years. Farewell Farrar Road: 50 Key events that shaped the history of Bangor City is a fitting tribute to the highlights of the old stadium, and provides an overview of the events that shaped the history of this proud club. Fittingly, the proceeds from the book will go towards building a stand at Nantporth providing a nostalgic link between the history of Farrar Road and the bright future that will be shaped on the banks of the Straits. The book is aims to bring to life the highlights of the key events at Farrar Road, said the book s author, Glynne Roberts, and traces the events right back to the early competitive games when the football club arrived at Farrar Road to share the facilities with the cricket club. The final section is of the game against Prestatyn in December last year, after which the gates finally closed and the bulldozers moved in. In between these events, we had 92 years of history, including the visits of Napoli and Atletico Madrid. The launch was at the Nantporth Stadium before the game against The New Saints. Chairman of the Supporters Association, Les Pegler, commented: The aim was to have a high quality book that was a fitting tribute to the historic old ground. I think that the end result is a fitting tribute, and the fact that proceeds from the publication will be ploughed into the new facilities is a nice link between the past and the future. Copies of the book will go on sale for 20. For further information, please contact Les Pegler
4 Shock Joner exit from GenQuip Port Talbot Town Football Club terminated the contract of manager Mark Jones last Monday. The Board of Directors wish to take the club in a new direction. Club Chairman Andrew Edwards said: "The club would like to put on record their thanks to Mark for all his efforts over the past three years". Mark Jones has told the Official Corbett Sports Welsh Premier League Site that he was "Surprised at the decision, considering that Port Talbot are the top team in the League in South Wales". He emphasised that he had "loved every minute at the club" and that he hoped for an early opportunity to return to the League that he "loves to bits" in the near future. Scott Young will assume the managerial duties for the game against Prestatyn Towm at the GenQuip Stadium on Saturday and is a contender for the full time post according to the Chairman: "Scott is currently doing his A license and is certainly in the mix. I've had a number of phone calls today from people expressing their interest in the job. We will choose who we believe is the best man to move Port Talbot Town Football club forward in the future". The former Carmarthen Town boss returned for a second spell in charge at the GenQuip Stadium in December 2008 following the dismissal of Nicky Tucker. He was previously in charge of the Steelmen from October 2001 to May Jones took Port Talbot to the Welsh Cup final in 2010 and into Europe the following season. Jones told Stephen Ware of : "I'm surprised and disappointed," said Jones. "I don't like it, but I understand football and I respect the chairman's decision. "I'm very disappointed because I love the place. The fans have been absolutely fantastic to me. I've got no axe to grind I enjoyed my time there." They are seventh in the table, just two points off the top six with seven games to go before the midseason split. "We haven't set the world alight, but we're the top team in South Wales at the moment. There are some big clubs underneath us," said Jones. "I firmly believe we would have got into the top six and I hope the club still do. I love the Welsh Premier League and I've taken two clubs into Europe. I'm a football man, I love the game and I've got a good record. We've never been in danger of relegation from a tough league." Port Talbot chairman Andrew Edwards insisted the board's decision had nothing to do with last weekend's heavy defeat. "Our view as a board is that the club has not been progressing as we would have liked," said Edwards. "Mark was given a bigger player budget and we started training at Llandarcy which also meant higher costs. We would win a game then lose a game, the team wasn't improving. "We felt that a change was needed if we were to cement a place in the top six. We had a bad result on Saturday, but this is not a knee-jerk reaction. "Mark was crystal clear that his remit was to get into the top six and we haven't been happy with the way some of the results have gone." "Mark was 110 per cent committed to the club and I can't fault him for effort," added Edwards. "It was a difficult decision because I count Mark as a friend. It wasn't just my decision, it was a board decision and we have to protect the best interests of the club.

8 The Last Word from Gwyn Derfel No one can suggest that the Corbett Sports Welsh Premier League is uneventful following another weekend of tongue twisting talking points. I d like to start by offering my congratulations to Afan Lido. Following ten straight defeats in the League they beat Gap Connah s Quay on Saturday which shows that they are fighting for their lives to stay in the top tier. It proves again that no result in our League is a foregone conclusion. Half a mile down the road from the Marston s Mark Jones instructions and memorable one-liners weren t to be heard for the first time in three years. He s always been a huge supporter of our League and I hope to see him back involved in the near future. Jones temporary successor at Port Talbot, Scott Young experienced the full scale of the managerial rollercoaster on Saturday. Carl Payne dismissed in the first minute, a Daniel Thomas super goal before the break and a penalty save in injury time by Craig Richards securing the victory for the Steelmen against Prestatyn which took them into the top six. And finally the topic of goal-line technology raised its head again at The Book People Stadium on Saturday. Les Davies reaction suggests that he feels that the whole of the ball crossed the line but the camera angles are inconclusive. Manchester United scored a goal that never was at Reading on top of their five officially credited strikes over the weekend. The camera angles on that occasion proved that the whole ball did cross the whitewash. No it s not an easy job being an official. Y Gair Olaf gan Gwyn Derfel Yn dilyn penwythnos difyr arall, hoffwn ddechrau drwy longyfarch Lido Afan am guro Gap Cei Connah tipyn o gamp i fechgyn Paul Reid wedi iddyn nhw golli eu deg gornest flaenorol. Mae hyn unwaith eto n profi nad oes run gêm hawdd yn Uwch Gynghrair Cymru Corbett Sports bellach. Hanner milltir lawr y lôn o r Marston s am y tro cyntaf ers tair blynedd doedd llais Mark Jones yn cyfarth cyfarwyddiadau ddim i w glywed. Mae o wedi bod yn gefnogwr hynod o frwd i n Cynghrair ac rwy n gobeithio ei weld yn ôl cyn hir. Mi gafodd ei olynydd dros dro ym Mhort Talbot fedydd tận go iawn. Gwelodd Scott Young Carl Payne yn cael ei ddanfon o r cae wedi munud, gôl unigol gofiadwy gan Daniel Thomas cyn yr egwyl ac yna yn amser yr amen Craig Richards yn arbed cic o r smotyn Andy Parkinson. Buddugoliaeth anodd ond triphwynt sydd wedi codi Port Talbot i r chwech uchaf. Ac i gloi rhaid cyfeirio at y digwyddiad yn Nantporth pan hawliodd Les Davies bod ei gynnig am y gôl wedi croesi r llinell. Er bod ymated Davies ei hun yn awgrymu ei bod hi n gôl doedd y camerau ddim yn gallu profi bod y bêl i gyd wedi croesi r gwyngalch. Cafwyd digwyddiad tebyg yn Uwch Gynghrair Lloegr dros y Sul hefyd. Er i Manchester Utd sgorio pum gôl ddilys yn erbyn Reading fe ddylen nhw fod wedi cael chweched gan i r camerau ar yr achlysur hwnnw brofi bod y bêl i gyd wedi croesi r llinell. Na dydi hi ddim yn hawdd bod yn aelod o dîm dyfarnu.
