1 WELSH PREMIER TIMES Issue 38//Rhiif 38 18//03//14 Griffiths d sets new WPL goal-scoring record Rhys Griffiths wrote a new chapter in the Corbett Sports WPL history books as he scored seven times against Afan Lido at the Marston's Stadium. Marc Lloyd Williams - who previously held the record of scoring six times in one match - tweeted his congratulations to Griffiths who netted two from the penalty spot and five goals from open play. Griffiths has now scored 250 goals in our National League Martin Rose scored the other goal for the Steelmen while Scott McCoubrey claimed both Lido goals. A key moment of the match came in the 11th minute when Callan Bowden was dismissed by match referee Bryn Markham-Jones which led to Rhys Griffiths' first goal of the evening from the penalty spot. Alleged racist comment found proven A Disciplinary Panel of the Football Association of Wales sat on Wednesday, 12th March 2014 to consider a charge pursuant to the Football Association of Wales Non- Discrimination Regulations against Christopher Marsden of Prestatyn Town FC. The player was charged under FAW Rule , for his alleged comment of a racist nature towards an opponent during a recent Welsh Premier League Development League match. The Disciplinary Panel found the charge against Christopher Marsden proven and as a result decided to impose an additional eight (8) match suspension (as and from 27th March 2014) on top of the four (4) matches imposed as a result of the automatic suspension following his sending off in the above-mentioned match. Chris Marsden has until Monday, 24th March to refer the matter to an Appeals Panel of the FAW. CARMARTHEN TOWN No news. gap CONNAH S QUAY ub U12 and U16 teams crowned national futsal champions A fantastic weekend in Cardiff saw two of The Nomads Academy sides return with silverware from the national finals. An outstanding weekend for the three clubs saw the sides travel down Saturday afternoon following all players watching the first team three nil home win over Afan Lido. A good night s rest in the Premier Inn Cardiff then saw the three sides head off towards the Cardiff Institute of Sport for the National Futsal Finals. Our under 16s were first up who faced Merthyr in their semi-final. An unbelievably high standard game saw the final score end in a seven all draw and the sides faced off in a penalty shoot-out. The Nomads won the shoot out by four goals to three and progressed to the national final where they would face The New Saints in a repeat of the North Wales final from January. The Nomads had a slow start and TNS went into a two goal lead at half time. Jordan Fraser grabbed two goals within five minutes of the second half to bring the side right back into the game. With just a minute remaining Jamie Roberts grabbed a winner before with just ten seconds remaining Nomads gave away a fifth foul and TNS found themselves having a penalty kick. The taker narrowly missed the target and the Gap Connah s Quay Nomads under 16s were crowned national champions. Second up for the day was our under 14s. Unfortunately they fell to a 5-2 defeat to Cambrian and Clydach who eventually went on to win the event. The 14s were in a one nil lead before they were reduced to 4 players when Steffan Owen was red carded for a foul in the game which left the side with an uphill battle. The team comfortably won their third placed play-off game against Rhyl with a very strong performance and finished third in the national event which is a great achievement. The under 12s were the last side up for the day and faced Monmouth in their semi-final and won the game by six goals to four, in a very end to end game of a fantastic standard. Identical to the under 16s final the under 12s final was a repeat of the northern final and the side faced a very strong Rhyl opposition. The under 12s gave the performance of the day winning the game by six goals to nil with some outstanding goals on show and the side were crowned National Futsal Champions. An outstanding day of futsal at Cardiff and a real fantastic weekend for all involved. A big thank you to all parents and fans who travelled to show their support for the teams as well as all the players for their great attitudes and performances.

7 NEWTOWN AFC No news PORT TALBOT TOWN DEFENDER Daniel Sheehan has left Port Talbot Town in search of regular first team football. The Swansea City youth product has been an excellent servant to the Steelmen, making 70 Welsh Premier League appearances and scoring two goals. But he has struggled to force his way into Scott Young s plans this season, and the club would like to wish Dan all the best in his quest for more game time. The 23-year-old was awarded a professional contract at the Liberty in 2009 before being released and signing for Salisbury City. He then moved on to Carmarthen Town and Afan Lido, first arriving at the GenQuip Stadium in the summer of Sheehan also spent time playing for Moreland City in Australia alongside the likes of Jake Parry, Daniel Thomas and Craig Jones. He returned to the Steelmen in August last year, but lost his place after suffering an injury and struggled to regain it.. PRESTATYN TOWN With team boss Neil Gibson away for the weekend, club spokesman Tony O Reilly spoke with Assistant Manager Martin Jones following the 0-4 defeat at Aberystwyth on Friday night. I was very disappointed with result but we didn't really deserve much after making a number of schoolboy errors. Again we had little luck with Aber's first goal taking a massive deflection, Hunty's penalty being saved and some strange refereeing decisions. However, we can t blame anyone but ourselves, and we all - players and staff - need to work harder. We are now in a relegation battle and everyone needs to be up for the fight. We've had some huge games in the past year but none are bigger than our next five league games. We hope that those supporters who were there at the start of the season will return and cheer us to survival. s Rhyl FC International football returns to the Corbett Sports Stadium on Tuesday 18 March, when Wales' Under-15 side take on Poland in a friendly. The match is scheduled to kick-off at 7pm and entry is via payment at the turnstiles. Admission is just 3 for adults and under-16's get in free. So get down to the Corbett Sports Stadium and cheer on our next generation of potential stars. THE NEW SAINTS FC The New Saints have announced that striker Alex Darlington looks set to be ruled out for the rest of the season after picking up a metatarsal injury. The Wrexham-born forward picked up the injury in his left foot during Saturday s 4-1 victory against Bangor City at Park Hall. The Wales semi-professional international has started 13 games and featured in a further eight games for the Corbett Sports Welsh Premier League Champions this season and has scored an impressive ten league goals. Craig Harrison was understandably disappointed to lose one of his most influential players at a key stage of the season and told the club; "It is a blow to lose Alex and unfortunately he will be out of action for six to eight weeks."

11 THE LAST WORD from Gwyn Derfel I am fortunate that my job allows me to watch a lot of football matches and I genuinely enjoy the vast majority of the games that I attend. On certain occasions I am privileged to be present at matches which will stay with me for many a year to come. Friday night at the Marston s Stadium was one of those occasions. Rhys Griffiths re-wrote the record books once again by scoring seven league goals in one match surpassing Marc Lloyd Williams six strikes on two different occasions. They are without doubt the two most prolific scorers in the history of our League and both men should be applauded for their exploits and talents. Griffiths seven goal haul was acknowledged comprehensively as usual on Sgorio and was also noted honourably on Sky and UEFA.com. Unfortunately the lack of coverage in certain parts of the so called Welsh media once again fell well short of what I would expect from self- proclaimed experts. Griffiths exploits on Friday night took him back to the top of the goal-scoring charts which prompted suggestions on social media that players from the bottom six shouldn t be allowed to win the WPL Golden Boot. We re in the fourth year of the Super 12 format and this is the first time that it seems that a player from our Play Off Conference will top the scoring table. Personally I think that all goals should carry equal importance but as always if you have any thoughts or suggestions please let me know. Thank you. Y GAIR OLAF gan Gwyn Derfel Rwy n hynod ffodus bod fy swydd yn caniatau i mi wylio nifer fawr o gemau a phrin yw r achlysuron nad wyf yn mwynhau gwylio gornestau yn ein Cynghrair Cenedlaethol. Mae ambell achlysur yn profi i fod yn wirioneddol gofiadwy ac roedd nos Wener yn Stadiwm Marston s yn un o r rheiny. Bu n rhaid ail-ysgrifennu r llyfrau hanes unwaith eto gan i Rhys Griffiths rwydo saith gwaith yn erbyn Lido Afan. Curodd record flaenorol Marc Lloyd Williams o chwe gôl ar ddau achlysur yn y broses. Heb amheuaeth y ddau chwaraewr arbennig yma yw sgorwyr mwyaf cyson a niferus ein Cynghrair a dylwn werthfawrogi eu doniau a u hymdrechion. Cofnodwyd camp ddiweddaraf Rhys Griffiths yn gynhwysfawr gan griw Sgorio ar raglen brynhawn Sadwrn a thalwyd sylw i w saith gôl ar Sky ac ar wefan swyddogol UEFA. Yn anffodus unwaith eto roedd methiant nifer o r cyfryngau Cymreig honedig i gyfeirio at y digwyddiad hyd yn oed yn embaras o siomedig. Ym mha wlad arall fyddai hyn yn digwydd? O ganlyniad i w goliau lu yn y Lido, mae Rhys Griffiths bellach yn ôl ar frig rhestr y sgorwyr yn UGC- Corbett Sports. Roedd tipyn o sôn ar y cyfryngau cymdeithasol wedi r gêm na ddylai chwaraewyr o r chwech isaf fod yn gymwys i hawlio teitl y prif sgoriwr. Dyma r pedwerydd tymor ers i ni fabwysidau system y Deuddeg Disglair a dyma r tro cyntaf mae n ymddangos mai o r chwech isaf y daw r prif sgoriwr. Yn bersonol rwy n credu y dylai pob gôl fod gyfwerth ậ i gilydd ond os oes gennych unrhyw awgrymiadau neu farn wahanol i mi cysylltwch ar bob cyfrif. Diolch yn fawr..
