1 WELSH PREMIER TIMES Issue 43//Rhiif 43 07//04//15 Higher payments for Welsh clubs in Europe The New Saints Chief Operating Officer and FAW Council member Ian Williams joined representatives from 145 ECA Member Clubs at the 14th European Club Association two-day General Assembly in Stockholm earlier this week, which centered on the announcement of two landmark collaboration agreements with FIFA and UEFA. Each agreement will provide clubs with a greater say in the governance models of both FIFA and UEFA recognising clubs important contribution to the success of national team football and the development of football as a whole. Clubs in Wales competing in both the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League qualifying rounds will benefit from a 65% increase in solidarity payments, which will have significant impact on the development of clubs in the Welsh Premier League commented Williams. There will also be additional solidarity revenue in favour of medium/smaller national leagues throughout Europe for the development of young players he added. The ECA and UEFA have agreed a revolutionary club distribution mechanism based on fixed percentages. The key objectives were to reduce the ratio between Champions League and Europa League, to increase the Qualifying Round Share and to revise the leagues share distribution concept. The new percentage-based system ensures that every stakeholder will benefit proportionally from the competitions continued growth in the future. The ECA FIFA agreement will see the creation of the FIFA Professional Football Department, composed of FIFA, ECA and player representatives. The new body will serve as a platform to discuss all matters related to professional football, and will make recommendations to the FIFA Committees. The renewed Memorandum of Understanding between the ECA and UEFA secures two seats for ECA Club Representatives on the UEFA Executive Committee first as co-opted members, then as full members (subject to the revision of the UEFA Statutes in 2016). This is a major achievement for ECA and a strong statement of UEFA s commitment to modern and dynamic governance models. The ECA Club Representatives to join the UEFA Executive Committee are yet to be confirmed. The details of the ECA-UEFA Memorandum of Understanding can be viewed on Player and Team of the Season Forms will go out to clubs this week for the annual award for Player of the Season. Club managers and directors of football will be asked to select their best five players for the season with their own players not eligible. Likewise they will be asked to pick the best player in each position to form their own selection of Team of the Season. The first award will be announced at the Corbett Sports Welsh Premier League Awards night in June together with the Young Player of the Year from the same poll. The short lists of three will be announced once voting is complete. It is hoped that the Team of the Season will be announced during the live transmission of the Welsh Cup final. It s Newtown v The New Saints in FAW Welsh Cup Final Following their semi-final victories over Rhyl and Airbus UK respectively at the weekend, Newtown AFC will take on The New Saints in the Tenovus Welsh Cup Final on Saturday May 2 nd at Paveaways Latham Park Newtown a venue agreed by both clubs. Corbett Sports WPL Player of the Month: Luke Sherbon (Aberystwyth Town) Aberystwyth Town's midfielder has been nominated Corbett Sports WPL Player of the Month following votes by the member clubs of the league. Sherbon featured in all three of Aberystwyth's matches during March when they drew 2-2 at home against Port Talbot Town, 3-3 away to Newtown where Luke scored one goal and last weekend in the clubs loss to Airbus UK Broughton 1-3. Corbett Sports WPL Manager of the Month: Craig Harrison (The New Saints) The New Saints boss Craig Harrison has collected his fifth Corbett Sports WPL Manager of the Month award this season after guiding TNS to their fourth consecutive WPL title earlier in the month. Harrison scooped the award following four wins for the Saints during March including wins over Airbus UK, Bala Town, Port Talbot and Newtown. The club claimed the 2014/15 Championship in the televised match at home to Bala Town where they lifted their ninth Corbett Sports Welsh Premier League title. The New Saints, who are undefeated this season, can still achieve the treble, as they add this League title to theword Cup trophy that they secured in January, and have a FAW Welsh Cup Semi-Final to look forward to in April. It was a very disappointing performance. We played well in the first half and created a lot of opportunities. We dominated the first half but you have to take those opportunities and see the half out. Despite the disappointing score-line, there were positives to take from the afternoon s work: There were positives to take from the game today. Some of the boys put on some great performances but its individual mistakes that have costs us which has been the same for all the season really. Collectively as a team we ve done well but

7 However, it cannot be denied that this result is a big blow to the Seasiders chances of grabbing second spot in the league. We really needed the three points today to pile on the pressure in the hunt for second and third place. I think we re now looking at second place being out of reach. We d need a lot of results going our way and us winning our remaining games. But with three games left ahead of the playoffs, Corbisiero was keen to emphasise that this result must be put to the back of the mind. The boys have been fantastic throughout the season and addressed themselves well. We ve got to concentrate now on finishing as high as we can. If we get it then great, if we don t then it s not a problem. We ll have to work our way through the playoff and get into Europe that way. With the Welsh Premier League taking a break this weekend to allow the Welsh Cup Semi Finals to take place, Aber now take a timely break from activities before facing their final three games of the League Programme, away to TNS on Friday 10th April, at home to Bala on the 17th and away to Port Talbot on Sunday 26th. Aber s guaranteed fourth spot means that should they fail to qualify for Europe directly they will have a home game in the Play Off Semi Finals the weekend of May 9/10th. Watch Martin Smith's full post match interview with Antonio Corbisiero via Town's Youtube Channel by clicking on the "Videos" tab Aberystwyth Town would like to congratulate Luke Sherbon on being nominated and winning the Corbett Sports Welsh Premier League Player of the Month for March. The midfielder has earned his award after showing the league and his fellow Aber Town team mates sheer determination, hard work and fantastic form in the month of March. Sherbon was on the score sheet during the 3-3 draw away at rivals Newtown AFC, and could have very nearly had a second goal in the game after a superb turn and volley smashed the underside of the bar and post. Following the Newtown game, Aber manager Ian Hughes revealed his delight on Sherbon s recent excellent performances despite playing in an unusual striker position. Speaking to Martin Smith for our official YouTube channel, Hughes revelled Luke can do that; good players can play anywhere that s what people say. Luke Sherbon can play anywhere as a centre half or as a number nine, he can play anywhere on the pitch. He was unlucky not to get the second goal when he hit the post, so that shows he s a threat and gives us another option upfront. The Aberystwyth Town official YouTube channel is the place to watch our exclusive post match interviews following the men s first team games. Subscription to our channel is free, so make sure to sign up by clicking on the link here and clicking subscribe. We would also like to congratulate The New Saints manager Craig Harrison on winning his fifth Manager of the Month award of the season. To win the award once is fantastic, so to win it five times in a season is an outstanding achievement. Matthew Wallace AIRBUS UK BROUGHTON BALA TOWN BANGOR CITY This Easter holidays saw Bangor City FC In The Community, the community partnership between Bangor City FC and Vi-Ability, undertake another of their popular Two-day Soccer Camps on Monday and Tuesday 30th and 31st March at The Book People Stadium, Nantporth, Bangor. This camp was another resounding success with, for the second camp in a row, record numbers of children in attendance with 199 attending the two days, with a record 102 players taking part on Day 2. Overall the camp provided a fantastic way for the children to kick off their Easter holidays, in a fun, relaxed and professional environment, giving them the opportunity to develop their footballing skills, make new friends and most importantly have fun. This camp was once again delivered in partnership with Hunaniath and Menter Iaith Bangor which saw the Welsh language being used to deliver sessions across the two days. Through this partnership Dewi Ferrero attended the both days running fun warm-ups for the players across the different sessions as well as Carwyn, Erddyn and Anest from URDD who facilitated the delivery of the sessions.

8 Delivered by our fully accredited community coaching staff these camps provide an excellent opportunity for children to develop their football skills, have fun and engage within constructive activity during their school holidays. Bangor City FC Community Officer Ethan Ray said it was fantastic to be able to host another successful camp here at Bangor City FC and to have record numbers of children in attendance is great, fantastic to hit that magic number of 100 players on the same day, it was good to see so many young players coming out and playing football and having fun during their school holiday's, we cannot wait for the May half-term for our next camp Dave Hayes CARMARTHEN TOWN CEFN DRUIDS gap CONNAH S QUAY NEWTOWN AFC Newtown now know that their Welsh Cup Final opponents will be The New Saints after they overcame a strong Airbus challenge, 4-2 ton Sunday at a sun- drenched Paveaways Latham Park. It was a tight first half until TNS scored in the 42nd minute, a screamer from Cieslewicz, but Airbus came out the stronger in the second half. Barrow netted just three minutes into the second period and it was game on until Mike Wilde scored on 64m. After the dismissal of the Airbus Manager, Andy Preece for dissent, Airbus still powered forward, but didnt' score until the 88th minute through Riley and extra time looked a certainty. One minute before normal time ended, Mike Wilde converted a cross from the right, but it was ruled out for offside - just two minutes later, with extra time looming, Wilde struck again but the ball bounced off the underside of the crossbar and rattled to the floor with the Assistant Referee ideally placed to award the goal, putting TNS 3-2 ahead. 2 minutes later, and the match was put beyond any Airbus recovery, Scott Quigley picking up a ball from the left wing and scoring confidently for a 4-2 finish. We know the final will be staged on Saturday 2nd May, but the venue has yet to be announced with speculation mounting that it could be held at a Welsh Premier League ground again. The kick-off time will be decided in association with the FAW broadcasting partners and both questions should be answered on Monday or Tuesday. TNS are on target for a famous treble winning season, having already won the League and the Word League Cup whilst Newtown have had a 118 year absence from the Welsh Cup final and will be attending the final with great pride. Unfortunately for Newtown, the rule that determined the runner-up in the Welsh Cup Final would get awarded a Europa League slot if the competition was won by the League Champions, has changed this season. It means the Cup place would go to the team that finished 3rd in the League. Ironically, Airbus look hot favourites to finish 3rd and, despite losing today, could be in line for a rich Europa League place if TNS beat Newtown in the Cup Final. PORT TALBOT TOWN PRESTATYN TOWN RHYL FC THE NEW SAINTS FC Wrexham receive over 70 applications, but Harrison is favourite by Nick Harrison, Wrexham Leader WREXHAM have been inundated with job applications for the manager s hotseat at The Racecourse. There has been a huge amount of interest in the position since Kevin Wilkin was sacked as boss last Monday and the board of directors have had 70 plus CVs to go through. The closing date for applications was Saturday and the club s board will now whittle it down to a shortlist before beginning the interview process. Craig Harrison (pictured left), who has led The New Saints to a fourth successive Welsh Premier League crown, has been installed as bookmakers 4/5 favourite, closely followed by former Reds ace Kevin Russell at 4/1. Russell was assistant manager to ex-reds skipper Darren Ferguson - another name in the running - at Peterborough where they enjoyed three promotions. Mark Yates, Paul Cox and current Wrexham skipper Dean Keates are also thought to be among the leading candidates. Harrison led TNS to the Welsh Cup final yesterday, following a 4-2 win over Airbus and would join up with the Reds current caretaker manager Carl Darlington if he were to be appointed. Harrison has admitted to being flattered by the interest shown in him for the vacant position at the Racecourse.
