3 Welcome to Knebworth Recreation Ground This afternoon we welcome Colney Heath Reserves to the Recreation Ground for this HSCL Division One encounter. Our visitors have made a mixed start to the season in the HSCL but have games in hand on several sides in the division, so we can expect a tough encounter this afternoon. I d like to welcome Ray Richards, his players, staff, officials and supporters from our visitors along with today s referee; Tony Fonseca. We hope you all have an enjoyable afternoon with us and a safe journey home. As usual, today s matchday programme contains details of forthcoming fixtures, recent league results, current league tables and of course the Non- League Paper column. Closer to home, we re still looking for people to take on some small weekly or monthly tasks to share the burden; an hour a week or a few hours each month. If you d like to get involved, please get in touch with Stuart. We are also always looking for articles for the programme so if anyone has a burning desire to go into print let me know. Or a player who fancies getting their picture and profile in a future edition.. Please join us back at the pub after the game where food is generously laid on and live sports are shown on television it s just down the road and you ll be warmly welcomed! Enjoy the game! John If you have any feedback or suggestions, programme@knebworthfc.co.uk

4 Non-League Paper programme column by Joshua Peck THE clocks have turned back and the nights are drawing in. The floodlights are on by half time and the pitches are showing early signs of wear and tear. So it s about time we look back at some of the memorable moments from around the Non-League scene so far this season. Here at NLP HQ, we are always reminiscing. Whether it be failed England World Cup attempts (pick your sport), or wonder goals from years gone by. But this season, we haven t had to look back very far to see some stunning strikes. Long-range finishes seem to be the order of the season with Bradley Bubb, Scott Davies and James Poole all netting from distance over the past three months and instantly becoming YouTube hits. Bubb didn t take long to get everyone talking. The opening weekend of the National League South campaign saw the new Oxford City man score on debut. That doesn t tell half the story though. We ve all tried it in the park on a Sunday morning, and for Bubb it paid off. Oxford had just conceded to go 2-1 down against Chelmsford City, and the 27-year-old got his name on the scoresheet in spectacular fashion, striking an audacious effort straight from kick-off. The ball dipped, clipping the crossbar on its way in and clearly surprising Clarets goalkeeper Ashley Timms who, despite a desperate dive, could not claw the ball away. But while it may have surprised Timms, Oxford captain Darren Pond wasn t so shocked. Pond said: It was funny actually because Fozzy (Oxford City goalkeeping coach Alan Foster) said to me about shooting from the halfway line. I told him I can t kick it that far, so I had to tell Brad to do it and he couldn t have hit it any better to be fair. And while Bubb s effort was almost dead on the halfway line, Wealdstone s Davies went one better. In fact, he went about 20 yards better. With the Stones already leading Brockenhurst 3-1 in the FA Cup third qualifying round, a free-kick from Brockenhurst keeper Callum Maher, landed kindly at the feet of Davies, midway inside his own half. After taking a touch and lifting his head to see Maher still rushing back, Davies went for goal. Yes, it was an open goal, but from 70 yards, it s not easy to hit the target. For a moment, it looked like the 27-year-old s effort may bounce over the bar. As it was, it bounced just before the goal line and nestled into the net. The FA Cup has been full of goals, and just two weeks after Davies effort, Poole got out his best David Beckham impression in front of some of the former England captain s team mates to send his Salford City side through to the FA Cup first round. Poole netted from just inside his own half, to the delight of City co-owners Gary Neville and Paul Scholes, as the Step 3 Ammies shocked National League side Southport. There will undoubtedly be some more screamers over the next six months, and whoever follows Sean Geddes, who scored with an audacious rabona attempt last season, to pick up our National Game Award for goal of the season is sure to have wowed all.

6 First Team Match Report Hatfield Town Reserves 0-3 Knebworth Table toppers Knebworth went to Birchwood looking to secure a season double over Hatfield Town Reserves after an opening day win, and record a fifth straight victory. An electric start saw Billy Mulley scamper down the left flank and centre the ball where Kwame Hoyte could only side foot wide of the target. The Ks were almost ahead when Max Taylor rose above all others to meet Charlie Pratt's cross but his header was cleared off the line. Adam Burnett was at his finest to keep out a Curtis Warner header that seemed destined for the top corner of the net, as the hosts countered quickly. The deadlock was broken after 15 minutes when Dale Chester dissected the Hatfield back line, with a clever through ball, and Charlie Pratt slotted past McCrystal. Knebworth continued to dominate possession and territory but only had a tame Jordan Folorunso effort to show for it, before the forward drew a foul in the box from experienced midfielder Newton. Pratt took the ball and confidently stroked home his second of the afternoon, and ninth of the campaign. Five minutes from the interval Knebworth extended their advantage through a superb counter attack. George Taylor got them on their way, Folorunso released Pratt who linked with Sam Harte on the wing before Folorunso finished the move from close range. Folorunso should have added a fourth but glanced his header wide from Pratt's cross. The Ks started the second half in the same attacking manner with Folorunso's fierce shot being palmed away, and Harte cantering down the right only for his teasing cross to go begging. The hosts increased their work rate and got themselves back in the game, although Burnett was rarely threatened as George Taylor marshalled the back line. There was a late opportunity for Pratt to complete his hat trick but his free kick from the edge of the box rattled the crossbar. Raja Tandoori man of the match: George Taylor (pictured).

19 Club History Knebworth Football Club was formed in 1901 as founder members of the North Herts League and were crowned champions on five occasions and won the county Junior Cup in 1912/13, before moving to the Herts County League in A period of success came in the 1970s with a host of championships and cup wins, often under the influence of ex-tottenham Hotspur player Johnny Brooks. Knebworth Football Club moved up the football ladder in 1983 to the South Midlands League, as well as to a new ground at Old Knebworth Lane. After five years the club returned to the North Herts League due to financial difficulties, winning three cups and a league title in two seasons, before going back to the Herts County League. There is no evidence to suggest that the club ever had a youth section, and in 1977 Doug Dilley set up Knebworth Youth Football Club initially with just an U12 boys team. The club began to grow and quickly had teams at U9 and U10 for the following season. The club continued to grow and within 25 years there were boys and girls teams representing the club from Under 6 through to Under 17 and over 200 registered players. Knebworth Football Club folded in 1995 when their ground at Old Knebworth Lane was sold as a health club. Four years later, Martyn Bond took his Knebworth Youth Football Club U18 side into senior football and re-formed Knebworth Football Club. After four successful years in the Hertford & District League the club were elected to the Herts Senior County League, achieving the FA's 'Charter Standard' award that same year and being crowned Herts FA 'Adult Club of the Year' in Knebworth Youth Football Club first achieved the FA's 'Charter Standard' award in 2004 and went on to pick up the Herts FA 'Club of the Year' in this category in both 2006 and also Further hard work and continued development saw the club achieve the coveted FA 'Development Club' status. In summer 2013, Knebworth Youth Football Club was incorporated into Knebworth Football Club. Knebworth Old Boys Football Club formed in the late 1980s as a veterans team playing on Sunday mornings, and in May 2014 agreed to join the club to bring all Knebworth football under one banner.
