1 2016/17 Metro League Rules and Competition Information Competition Structure Overview The Metro League Competition will be a tiered structure with Metro League Division One being open to the following Associations; SDTA, GDTA, EDTA, NETA, HTA, WDTA, Metro Lawn Beneath Division One Metro League will be the Metro North and Metro South competition consisting of teams from the following Associations. Metro South GDTA, SDTA Metro North- WDTA, EDTA, NETA, Metro Lawn, HTA The number of divisions in the Metro South and Metro North Competitions will be dependent on the number and strength of nominations. Schedule Commencing 15 October Last match before Christmas to be 17 December Break after 17 December, and returning on 28 January 2017 Last round to be on 4 March Finals to be run over 3 weekends commencing 18 March with Grand Final on April 1 Matches will not be played over the Adelaide Cup Long Weekend March 11 Metro League Committee Roles: The Metro League Committee will be made up of one representative per Association involved in the Metro League Competition, two independent representatives and one two Tennis SA staff members Neville Messenger - Metro League Committee Chair Person Dylan Hicks Metro League Coordinator (Recording Secretary role inclusive) Teams Fees and nomination process Team Fee s for the For the Metro League, Metro North and Metro South Competition will be $120 (inc GST) per team. Nomination forms will be sent directly to clubs by Tennis SA and clubs are to nominate directly to Tennis SA by as outlined on the Metro League nomination form. Presentations and Prize money Presentations will be made to the Winner and Runner-up teams of all Metro League competitions at the 2017 Tennis SA Awards Night held in April. The Men s and Women s Metro League Division One Premiership teams will each receive $500 in prize money Metro League Division One Men s and Women s Players of the year winners will each receive a $250 New Balance Voucher. Metro North/South Players of the year will each receive a $50 award.

2 1. Match Procedure Each home team to provide a minimum of 2 courts. Starting time 1.00 pm or 3.30 pm as scheduled. Matches at 3.30pm must have 4 courts available for Singles. All players must play in order of merit. No player may move more than one ranking position up or down in consecutive matches. Six players may play in any ONE programmed match. If a club has more than one team in a division, a player may play 3 matches before being bound to a team no player is permitted to change teams after the end of January. State League players that have played 5 matches are ineligible for Metro League unless with prior approval of the Metro League Match Committee. Captains should complete and exchange score cards before the match begins. Matches will commence with both Doubles matches, unless previously arranged. Doubles to be listed prior to start of match and all Singles to be listed prior to start of any Singles or at start of match. 2. Match Format Singles & Doubles- 2 sets, tiebreak at 6 all then super tiebreak if one set all. Super tiebreak- First player to 10 points with a 2 point margin, or 2 point margin after 9 all. This tiebreak set will be recorded as the actual points scored in League Manager and tallied as 1 set 1 game to the winner 0 set 0 games to the loser as part of rubber score. 3. Tennis balls All balls must be of a type approved by Tennis Australia. The Home team shall provide eight new balls for each match. Finals: each team to provide four new balls. 4. Scoring Matches shall be decided by rubbers, then sets, then games. Four points for a win, two for a draw, and one for each winning rubber. Super tiebreak to count as 7/6 set. A team receiving a match forfeit must record match details on League Manager to ensure players qualify for finals. 5. Results The Club of the winning teams must advise the Sunday Mail the final scores, Ph by 7.15p.m. on the day of the match. Each team/club is to record own results on leaguemanager.tennis.com.au. Metro League TA by Monday 12.00am. Finals to be recorded by Sunday 10.00pm. PENALTY: Loss of 2 points. All correspondence or disputes to the Recording Secretary, via dhicks@tennis.com.au If a result is disputed or contrived the Metro League Match Committee has the power to investigate and impose other penalties, including loss of premiership points by offending teams 6. Player Registration Players must be registered members of their Club, and their details must be recorded in full on League Manager by Midnight, Monday following the match. 7. Ineligible Any team playing a player listed on Tennis S.A s list of ineligible players shall be penalised by losing any points the ineligible player has accrued and forfeit all sets played. 8. 3 Every match shall be played to a finish, weather permitting. In the event of any match being postponed or being unfinished on the day set down for such, the matter shall be referred to the Metro League Committee for decision. Players must remain at the courts until at least 2.00 p.m. before making any decision to abandon the match. In the event of wet lawn courts being unplayable, matches may be transferred by agreement of both Captains. A round of matches will be cancelled if less than 50% of matches in a division are completed. In major round matches players must remain at the courts until 4.00 p.m. or 2.00 pm for lawn court matches before making any decision to abandon the match. 9. Weather Implications In the event of extreme weather (including but not limited to rain or excessive heat) a recorded phone message on the Tennis SA Weather Phone by 11:00am on the day of the scheduled match. Matches will be cancelled when the forecast maximum temperature on match day, is issued by the Bureau of Meteorology at at 9.00 am on the morning of matches, is 37 Celsius or more. If the said forecast includes a temperature of less than 37 Celsius then the Committee may still also so cancel the said round in the manner set out above. 10. Forfeits Clubs are expected to fill Metro League teams each week. Clubs need to fill teams from top down; State League, Metro League, Metro North/South, Association Div 1, 2 etc. A team forfeiting shall notify the opposing team as soon as possible. A team so giving a forfeit shall, in the absence of providing a reasonable written explanation to the Recording Secretary prior to 6:00pm the following Tuesday, is liable to lose two premiership points. If any team cannot commence both Doubles rubbers (unless by prior mutual agreement) by 1.15 pm that team shall forfeit any rubber that cannot be commenced. Any team not able to commence two rubbers within half an hour of the scheduled starting time, shall be liable to forfeit the entire match. This is a Competition requirement, not at the discretion of team captains. Any player unable to commence or complete his or her set or sets due to illness, injury or any other cause, other than postponement of a match, shall forfeit such set or sets or the remaining games to the opposing player. Players do not move positions in these situations. 11. Premiership tables Premiership Tables to be decided by points, and in the case of equality of points at the end of the minor round, the team with the best percentage for and against (rubbers, then sets, then games) shall be deemed minor premiers. In divisions with a bye, the Premiership table will be decided by Match Ratio. If in any round, less than 50% of matches in a Division are cancelled or not completed and the round is recorded, then the Premiership table will be decided by Match Ratio (Match Ratio is the Premiership points divided by the number of matches played. If equal Match Ratio then by rubbers, then sets, then games)

4 12. Qualification and finals nominations To qualify a player must have played in six minor round matches at Metro League level (in the required League) or a competition considered to be of lower standard (this includes Associations Competition, but does not include players deemed to be ranked higher than players in the team). In the case four or more matches are cancelled, 5 matches will be required for qualification. Players are not able to qualify for cancelled matches when no play is undertaken. Nominations of finals teams including Singles and Doubles pairings in writing shall be forwarded to the Recording Secretary by the Monday at 7.00 pm before the first finals round. Only players nominated and approved may play. The team that finishes 1 st and 3 rd is allocated home courts for semi-finals, loser of 1v2 - home courts for preliminary finals, winner of 1v2 - home courts for grand final. All court allocations to be decided by the Metro League Match Committee having consideration to court availability and the standard of courts. Associations to allocate court numbers at club venues for all finals. 13. Finals The four teams securing the highest number of points shall play off in the major round. In the event of a bye in a draw or partly cancelled round, the four teams securing the highest match ratio shall play off in the major round. In the semi-finals, the Minor Premiers will have the option of hosting a home final on courts of a standard approved by the Match Committee. If the team declines, the decision shall rest with the Match Committee. (A) The team finishing 1st plays the team finishing 2nd; (B) The team finishing 3rd plays the team finishing 4th; (C) The loser of (A) plays the winner of (B); and (D)The winner of (C) plays the winner of (A) in a Grand Final. The grand final will be held at Memorial Drive Tennis Centre Where the first week of finals are cancelled or no result achieved due to weather conditions then the second week will be played by 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3 and the winners play the next week in the final. 14. Major Round Draws A Major Round draw shall be decided by both teams nominating their best doubles pairing and a match tiebreak played to decide the match. 15. Match Disputes All Match disputes must be sent by to the Recording Secretary within three days of the day in which the match was played.

5 16. Code of Conduct issues All matches shall be played in accordance with the Tennis Australia Code of Behaviour for Weekly Competitions. All Code of Conduct issues shall be sent by to the Recording Secretary by 12am, Monday. The Tennis SA Competitions Code of Conduct Committee will manage all conduct issues. The Code of Conduct Committee will be made up of a minimum of three Association Representatives and one Representative from Tennis SA. The Committee will have at least one person from an Association within each of the Metro North and Metro South Competitions. The Code of Conduct Committee may determine a dispute report in any way it sees fit and impose a penalty, including but not limited to the forfeit of matches or sets, and the loss of premiership points, on any club or player involved in such a dispute.
