THE VETTE SETTE President s Corner It is summer time and to all you Classic Glassers, it is also Corvette time of the year. There are plenty of activities going on this time of the year with lots of car shows, cruises and other types of events for you to enjoy. Classic Glass annual club picnic is this weekend and we have a great one planned again. It looks like we will have good weather and I am sure we will have some great food for everyone. Calvary Children s Home kids are going to join us again this year and we hope all can be there to enjoy the fun. Super Vette and the Sock Hop are just around the corner and man do we have some great thing planned for this year so if you have not already registered then get to it. The second annual Sock Hop is Aug 4 th this year on Friday night. We have games to play and prizes to give out and one of the best oldies bands in town. Remember that you need to pre-register to get in FREE otherwise it is $20 bucks a A Monthly Publication for the Members of The Volume XVI Issue 6 June 2006 Page 1 head so please get those registration forms in soon. For those of you who have come to the last 2 super Vette meetings and have turned in your door prize stuff or who have committed to have it in soon. I wanted to say thanks as this is a team effort and we need everyone to help out to make this the best Corvette show in the southeast. We have a good line up so far of events and cruises but we can use some more. Do not worry about the calendar being too full as people have different likes and we can have more than one thing on the same weekend. Where do you find potential club members? Harriette found three at the Southeastern Builders show. We have found a couple others when out to eat. Always be ready to invite someone to our club meetings. Remember growth in the club is good. Recently, Joe sent out an email regarding the lack of signups for the MTI Dyno Day If we don t have any more sign up it is in danger of being cancelled. This happens a lot. Event Managers make arrangements based on a certain number of participants to get the best deal for the members. For a cruise, they map it out, present it to the board, run the route, check on stops, & road conditions, set up for discounts or seating or other necessary details. A considerable amount of planning is done. If you think you are going to participate, please take the time to sign up as early as possible so the event manager is not relegated to eating the tires off his/her dearly beloved Vette in consternation. Remember also, if there is an event that you would like to see happen, you too can be the Event Manager and there are a lot of us who would be absolutely delighted in following you to. Well you fill in the blank. GM stopped it and later Pontiac president John DeLorean became president of Chevrolet. The 1968-72 coupes rear window was removable for more of a true convertible experience. In 1987 you could buy a Corvette without an engine installed by the factory. It took 55 hrs to build a C-5 down from 70 hrs for the last C-4 model. The production line at Bowling Green is about 7 miles long. Page 2

Harriette Majoros LOOKING BACK Classic Glass July 1996 By Ron Floyd Member Dave Bachman ruminated in the Vette Sette on his Corvette beginnings. Despite some early interest in the 60's, it wasn't until 1974 that he took the plunge, buying a "forlorn '55 badly in need of TLC" based on a friend's convincing that it was a "deal" at $1,800. Membership VP, John Iroff, reported club membership at 58 and Super Saturday planning was underway for August 17th at Day's Chevrolet according to "Otter" Giberson. Vette Sette Editor Wayne Ray, wrote a lengthy and hilarious "Hot Air" article on "How Government Works". Ron Floyd rfloyd1094@comcast.net Page 5
