The Marlins open a four-game home-and-home series with the Yankees tonight at 7:10. RHP Tom Koehler will take the mound for Miami in his first career appearance against New York. He will be opposed by RHP Masahiro Tanaka, making his first career appearance against Miami. After tomorrow night s contest the Fish leave Miami to complete this set with the Bronx Bombers at Yankee Stadium (June 17-18) before heading to Cincinnati (June 19-21). Miami is 3-1 on the current homestand, having won a four-game series against Colorado over the weekend. Tonight s National Anthem will be performed by Billy Bones, while the ceremonial first pitch will be tossed out by George Martin Jr. and Franco De Vita, 2014 Latin Billboard Hall of Fame inductee. CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK FOR BIG G Giancarlo today was named the National League s Co-Player of the Week for June 8-14, along with San Francisco rookie Chris Heston, who tossed a no-hitter on June 9. hit.520 (13x25) last week, with seven runs scored, four doubles, five home runs, 12 RBI, a.586 on-base percentage, and a 1.280 slugging percentage. He had a hit in all seven games last week, marking the beginning of his longest hitting streak of the season. VS. THE YANKEES The Marlins begin a four-game home-and-home set with the Yankees tonight here at Marlins Park. Miami trails the all-time series, 9-11, but has a 7-5 lead in South Florida. YESTERDAY The Rockies avoided a four-game sweep at the hands of the Marlins with a 4-1 victory here at Marlins Park. Home runs by Charlie Blackmon (leadoff) and Nolan Arenado in the first inning off of Miami starter Dan Haren gave the Rox an early 3-0 lead that they would not relinquish. INTERLEAGUE NOTES The Marlins are 3-6 in Interleague Play this season, and are currently on a three-game losing streak to the American League. Miami leads NL clubs all-time in wins. BOLD LOOK OF KOEHLER IN YOUR HOME Tom Koehler has posted a 2-1 record with a 1.57 ERA (34.1 ip/6 er) in six appearances (five starts) at home this season. That is in contrast to his 2-3, 6.21 (37.2/26) record in seven road outings, all starts. According to Stats LLC, the decrease in ERA of 4.64 points from road to home is the fourth-largest in the Majors this season, behind only Drew Hutchison of Toronto (-6.74; 9.46 to 2.72), Seattle s Taijuan Walker (-5.76; 8.27 to 2.51), and Pittsburgh s Jeff Locke (-5.32; 8.37 to 3.05). For his career, Koehler s ERA is 1.27 points better at home (3.44 in 39 appearances) than on the road (4.71 /43). A FIRST FOR THE FISH Giancarlo has 23 home runs and 59 RBI through the team s first 64 games this season. Both marks are the most ever by a player through 64 team games in Club history, according to Stats LLC. Prior to this season, Dan Uggla (2008), Mike Lowell (2003) and Gary Sheffield (1996) were tied for the most home runs, with 18, while Moises Alou (1997) had recorded the most RBI, with 55. had 53 RBI through 64 team games in 2014, which now ranks third on that list. HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE Overall record on this date: 9-12 Since snapping a nine-game losing streak at Marlins Park on May 23, the Fish have gone 7-2 at home, with a 1.91 ERA (85.0 ip/18 er). They have allowed three-or-fewer runs in seven of those games, held opponents to a.200 batting average, and allowed just five home runs. Their home winning percentage (.778) is fourth in the Majors (third in National League) since that date, behind Pittsburgh, St. Louis, and Toronto (all.818/9-2), as is their ERA, which trails only Pittsburgh (1.37), St. Louis (1.71), and Oakland (1.90).
