CRICKET KENYA A New Dawn The new Cricket Kenya (CK) board was elected on 2 nd December 2012 Board elected on a platform of change and mandate of taking the game back to its former glory:- Have the national teams qualify in their respective world cup tournaments Devolve the game take it to the grassroots Create interest and awareness in the game
December 2012 The National Women Team Participated in the ICC-Africa Women s World Cup Qualifying finishing fifth above Namibia Despite missing out on qualification, the ladies took a lot encouragement from their participation that saw them lose narrowly to eventual winners Zimbabwe
December 2012 Cont. The National Under-19 Ladies The team participated in the Africa Regional U19 girls tournament in Kampala, Uganda Kenya emerged fourth overall behind Tanzania on net run rate with two of the ladies picking up top honours in batting (Queentor Aoko) and most valuable player award going to (Daisy Wairimu)
December 2012 Cont. The Inaugural Regional Under- 17 Boys Championships Was successfully held at Greensteds school in Nakuru between 8 th and 12 th December:- Three teams drawn from the provinces to make up Capital Aces, Rift Rangers and Islanders. The Aces from Nairobi won the competition beating Rangers from Nakuru in the finals. Several of the boys have potential to make into Kenya U-19 team for the Africa Qualifiers in August 2013.
January 2013 Administration and Governance A General Manager was head hunted and recruited. This is in keeping in line with strengthening of the administrative arm in order to deliver on key strategic objectives KPIs have been developed for all staff to ensure efficient delivery of services
January 2013 Cont. Mini Cricket was launched in Western Kenya in Busia and Khwisero. Pupils from 12 primary schools were introduced to Cricket for the first time. Other counties in the region have been identified for cricket development in the 2 nd and 3 rd quarter of the year
February 2013 Inaugural visit to Kakamega by CK Chair. This is strategic priority 2 of the 5 year CK strategic plan which is to spread the game throughout Kenya. The course arms them with the necessary skills in organising cricket tournaments at the grassroots level. There will be similar courses held in different parts of the country throughout the year
February 2013 Cont. Three ladies represented Kenya at the 3 rd ICC Africa Senior Women s Academy held at Willowmore Park Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa National Women s team captain Emily Ruto, Wicketkeeper Sharon Juma and youngster Daisy Wairimu completed the 5-day Academy session that took place between the 8 th and 13 th of February, 2013 Daisy started playing cricket in January 2012 and by the end of the year was selected into the Under-19 Girls team for the Africa Junior Girls Championship in Uganda and was voted player of the tournament which earned her a place in the academy
February 2013 Cont. The National Men s Team Won the ICC-Africa T20 World Cup Qualifiers that was held from 23 rd February to 1 st March in Kampala, Uganda The 5-team event saw the National side compete for top honours against hosts Uganda, Botswana, Nigeria and Tanzania Kenya and Uganda earned qualification to the Global Qualifiers to be held in November this year in the UAE by virtue of finishing in the top two places respectively
March 2013 The National Men s Team Won both the ICC Intercontinental Cup and ICC World Cricket League Championship against Canada in Dubai between 11 th and 21 st March, 2013. The ICC World Cricket League Championship is most crucial for Kenya as it counts towards the 2015 Cricket World Cup qualification. Kenya is currently ranked No.5 in the both the ICC Intercontinental Cup and the ICC WCL Championship. Wins in Dubai over Canada have revived Kenya s hopes in qualifying for the 2015 CWC.
March 2013 Africa Cricket Coaches Seminar Kenya was represented by Dun Okinyo, the Development Officer Special Projects at the inaugural edition of the Africa Cricket Coaches seminar held in Benoni, South Africa between 15 and 19 th March, 2013. The gathering resulted in the creation of an Africa Coaches Forum through social media which is a medium the coaches will use to share information on coaching materials, activities and how to overcome challenges through experiences.
March 2013 Nairobi Boys Secondary Schools league 2013 The league was played at various school grounds every Saturday and came to a close at the end of March 2013. The league consists of 16 teams from different schools divided into three pools. Shree Cutchi Leva Patel Samaj School A and B claimed both titles in the top two pools, while Parklands Boys Secondary School won the pool C title on net run-rate after they tied with fast improving Lenana School. Some of the players from the league will be pushing for places in the U-19 team.
April 2013 Africa Cricket Association AGM Cricket Kenya s Chairperson was elected as the Africa Cricket Association (ACA) Tournament Director during the ACA AGM that was held on 20 th April, 2013 in Durban, South Africa She assumes the position with immediate effect and will now be in charge of coordinating Regional Cricket Tournaments in Africa
April 2013 Namibia T20 Quadrangular series Kenya finished runners-up to hosts Namibia in the T20 Quadrangular tournament that took place in Windhoek The four team tournament also involved Cricket South Africa Emerging side and the Netherlands The two T20 matches against Netherlands which Kenya recorded back to back victories over their opponents were classified as T20 Internationals and count towards Kenya s ranking in this shorter format of the game

New Format of the East Africa Cricket Competition 3. Launch of the 10 Over 5 year Strategic Plan engaging key partners to ensure the delivery of objectives 4. Establishment of a National Players Database in conjunction with the provinces and clubs - this will help create a clear players pathway from the schools to the National level 5. Open centres of excellence in 3 regions - to nurture cricket talent in those areas
