S o u t h e r n N e v a d a C h a p t e r, I n c. # 2 7 3 5 The Director s Saddle Well December has finally arrived. This is my last newsletter for the year. I have had a great time this year and learned a lot about the chapter and the dealership. The dealership has been really good to us and has been real easy to work with. About the only thing we changed this year was our coupon program. It was originally set up for just the rider of the bike and not for passengers even though they were members of the SNHOG. With the new program, now everyone that is a member is eligible to win our drawings at the general membership meetings. D E C E M B E R, 2 0 1 1 A big thank you to Nick for listening to us and helping us get this done. This program was not just my idea. I have to give credit/thanks to Speedo and Tom also. We were just standing around talking about the chapter one night and how we could get everyone involved again. We came up with the new coupon program we have now. I think it is working out very good for the chapter as a whole. I have to thank the dealership for supporting the group and for giving me the chance to be this years ( 2011 ) director. I had a great time and enjoyed all the events with the chapter through the year. Also I have to thank Randy at the dealership. She has really helped with dealer information, Continued on Page 2 S.N.H.O.G. Continued from page 1 Director s Saddle...continued The Directors Saddle Dave Jones 2011 SNHOG Director.and for getting our newsletter approved and out to our members. A big thanks to the board members this year. Without their support/help we wouldn t have had such a great year. It takes a lot of planning and even though we didn t agree on things at times, we worked through it and got everything accomplished for the year. Thanks again for the support. I definitely have to thank the road captains for continuing to keep the chapter safe and getting us to all our destinations and back again safely. In my opinion, they do an awesome job for the group and really deserve the credit. Keep up the great work. Thanks to all the ambassadors and photographers for volunteering their time to help with the chapter. Being an ambassador and helping the new members find their direction is very important to getting new members comfortable with the group and letting them know how the group works. Thanks again to our photographers for taking pictures of our rides and other events. It is great to go to the website gallery and look at all the pictures from the year. It s good to remember the year, but with the pictures our photographers took it just makes it better to remember the events. Thanks to Wendy for taking the membership officer position this year. It is a lot of work keeping track of the members and making sure all are up to date with their memberships. Thanks to Mario for getting the newsletter together for us so the chapter gets the information needed from it. Thanks to Tracy for being our webmaster. Holding one position ( treasurer ) with the group is a lot of work, but having two is really time consuming. A special thanks to Larry Kusler, Karen Heriford and Jim Speedo Larson for their guidance this year. Their knowledge of the chapter has been a big help in getting things done this year. Thanks for the guidance. Thanks to our dealer rep Tom. All your help this year getting with the dealership and guiding us with different event ideas really helped us get things done this year. Thanks Tom. A huge thanks to all the members of SNHOG. Without all of you coming out to all our rides, meet and eats and other events this year. The members are why all of us volunteer our time to hopefully make your SNHOG experience enjoyable. Look forward to riding with all of you next year and the years to come. Thanks for putting up with me and for listening at the meetings. Now on to our December events. First we have our overnight ride to Lake Havasu on the 3 rd leaving from ABC at 9:00 am. This is our last overnight ride for the year and it has always been a great ride. Then on the 10 th we have our charity ride. This event is for the Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation. This ride will leave LVHD at 9:30 am. Don t forget to bring your gifts for the kids. On the 13 th is our last general membership meeting for 2011. Then on the 15 th we have a meet and eat at Sam's Town buffet at 6:30 pm. We are doing this meet and eat instead of the Christmas light ride we usually do. After we all get together and eat, we will go into the MYSTIC FALLS PARK inside Sam's Town. Then on the 17 th we have our annual Christmas party. It will be held at the Golden Nugget downtown. On the 21 st is our last ride of the year. It is Speedos mid-week ride. This ride will leave SILHC at 9:00 am. Also we are taking donations for the USO. We have been challenged to raise money for this and we will be excepting anything you can give for them. Thanks for any donation you can give. Thanks for a great year and putting up with me. It s HOG s way of saying safety matters most. Refer to your HOG Benefits Guide for more details on the HOG Safe Rider Skills Program, or visit members@hog.com. It is the Best of Times to Ride... By The Editor I sometimes wonder how in spite of the world around us appearing to spin out, how easy it is to just get on the motorcycle and just ride until you sort it all out. And sometimes it is just the reassurance knowing the people you ride with, socialize with, and dine with, are all bound by one unique theme- The Harley Davidson Motorcycle. It is that one hand wave (or Peace Sign?), the makes us unique to ourselves no matter what. It s because we ride! We are a union of riders made equal every time we change from our work clothes to our riding clothes. We have become a family joined as Soldiers and Veterans, Firemen and Policemen, Doctors, Nurses, Lawyers and all the rest. We share a mutual respect for each other and embrace a very special type of freedom. It inspiring, it s life altering good, it s that cool breath on a brisk mountain morning, or that fresh green wet smell of fresh cut grass. Actually it s the holidays, and I wish everyone a very safe and sane ride everywhere they ride. After all, tis The Season to Ride. Page 8

December Hog Calls Well, here I am writing the December Hog Calls. I guess it s time to use the old cliché, Where did the year go. Looking back, we had some great rides, experienced some fantastic destinations, met some wonderful people and partook in some of our old favorites. OK. OK. Enough of the reminiscing, let s get on to what s coming up. Saturday December 3 rd : The first ride of the month is going to be a traditional December over-night ride to Lake Havasu for the Parade of Lights. If you have never been there, this event it is spectacular. The boat owners decorate their boats in grand Christmas style with lots and lots of lights and parade them through the channel and under the bridge. Date: 12/3/11 Bridgewater Motel Leave Location: ABC (Albertson s Boulder City) 101 London Bridge Rd. Briefing Time: 8:30 AM 928-855-5559 Leave Time: 9:00 AM Tuesday December 13 th : Guess what, it s time for the General Membership Meeting and Gathering. The last meeting of the year usually has some good stuff. Come join us. There will be cake, I promise. Date: 12/13/11 Location: Las Vegas Harley Davidson (Eastern & Sahara) Time: 6:30 PM Thursday December 15 th : Does it seem this month is rushing by? We are having another Meet-n-Eat. I don t think my girlish figure can stand much more abuse after Thanksgiving. Well I guess I can have something good for me and partake in some socializing. This is going to be a very special event. We are not only going to eat and chat it up we are going to partake in the special Christmas show at Sam s Town. Date: 12/15/11 Time: 6:30 PM Location: Sam s Town Buffet Saturday December 17 th : The event of the year, The Southern Nevada Harley Owners Group Christmas Party. If you have purchased tickets you know it will be held at the Golden Nugget down town Las Vegas. If you haven t purchased your tickets, what the hell are you waiting for? At the time I am writing this there are a very few tickets left. Contact Tracy at treasurer@snhoglv.com If you have purchased tickets and have not completely paid for them, the balance is due at the General Membership Gathering on the 13 th or before. Location: Bel Air Room Golden Nugget Cocktails: 5:00 PM Dinner: 6:00 PM Attire: Business Casual or Better Wednesday December 21 st : The last event of the year is Speedo s Mid Week Ride. Because of the leave location I think it s going to be some place south. Date: 12/21/11 Briefing : 8:30 AM Leave: 9:00 AM Leave Location: Silverton Hotel Casino Page 11

January Hog Calls Sunday Jan. 1 st : For those of us that may partake in a bit more of the spirits (adult beverages) than we should on New Year s eve the ride on New Year s day is called The Hair of The HOG ride. Some of us speak in a lower volume and try real hard to not make a lot of noise with the bikes to prevent your head from exploding. This ride is traditionally the first ride of the year and the first ride for the new administration of your Chapter. Come out and make fun of us or them as the case may be. Date: 1/1/12 Leave Location: ABC (Albertson s Boulder City) Briefing Time: 7:30 AM Leave Time: 8:00 AM Saturday Jan. 7 th : This is the first Dealership event of the year. We will be getting the information for this event to you as soon as it is made available to us. This event will also be a Chapter event and a ride will be scheduled for the members wishing to participate. The Dealership traditionally requests volunteers to help with the registration and card opening. If you want to volunteer Sandi will have a sign-up sheet at the December General Membership Gathering. Holiday Message BY Jim Speedo Larson Greetings Southern Nevada HOG s The holiday season has begun. I hope everybody had a great Thanksgiving and will be able to enjoy the holidays by spending time with your family and friends. The Road Captains would like to wish you and your family a safe and happy holiday season. This has been a great year for me. It has been a pleasure seeing so many of you on our rides and overnighters. I have enjoyed being your Lead Road Captain for the past year and plan on continuing to be a Road Captain in 2012. I would like to thank this year s Road Captains for all the time, effort and hard work they do as a team. You have done an outstanding job ensuring the safety and enjoyment of our members on chapter rides. Without you, we would not be what we are, one of the greatest HOG Chapters. A special thanks to Paul Smith, The Safety Guy, for all the great safety articles in this year s newsletters. The chapter has had some great rides and overnighters in 2011. Hopefully you have had a chance to get out and ride with your chapter. This year s Mid-Week Rides have been very successful. I really enjoy the Mid- Week Rides with the members that can t ride on weekends do to their work schedules. It s great there is a weekday ride for the members that can t ride with the chapter on weekends. There are still a couple of rides left this year. The last overnighter of the year will be to Lake Havasu on December 3 rd 4 th. If you haven t seen the Parade of Lights on Lake Havasu, make plans to join us on the Lake Havasu Overnighter. Then we have our annual SNHOG Charity Ride. This year we will be delivering toys to the Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation. The last ride of the year will be the monthly Mid-Week ride. As I tell the members on the Mid-Week Rides, this will be a great ride we have no adult supervision. Don t forget the chapter Christmas Party on December 17 th. This party is always a lot of fun; great atmosphere, good food, a few drinks, socializing and a little dancing. A good time will be had by all. I look forward to seeing you there. For everybody that survives New Years Eve, remember to mark your calendars for our annual Hair of the HOG ride on January 1 st. See you on the next ride Ride Safe and Have Fun Jim Speedo Larson Lead Road Captain Page 13

December 2011 Notes BY Larry Kusler A couple of years ago I purchased a device for use primarily on my Harley that performs several different functions. It communicates my location through satellites and allows people to view the progress of my trips by linking to a web page. It also allows me to summon help if needed even when we ride beyond the range of cellular service. That is the reason I made the purchase. The chapter routinely rides well beyond the range of cellular service and should an emergency occur I wanted the ability to immediately summon help. Fortunately so far we have never needed that service, but it is comforting to know that if it is needed it is available. For the last two years I have been sharing trip information with my family who were interested in tracking me wherever in the world I was. It occurred to me that members of the chapter may have family or friends who would like to be able to see where they are, at least where they have been. The system plots a point on a map every ten minutes so on our rides out of town the device will show the route we have taken, where we stop and when we were there. If any of you would like to have your family or friends see where you are riding all you have to do is send them this link. This link has been functional for two years and I plan to keep it going for as long as I ride. For those of you that share this link with others please let me know how it works for you. http://share.findmespot.com/shared/faces/viewspots.jsp? glid=0uvjrv70cswssdxmp1grzvrj5iifbyewc As always, enjoy the ride and remember If you aren t having fun, you are doing something wrong Larry Kusler Page 14
