VETTE NEWS Volume 33, Issue 9 President s Corner September - 2014 What s Happening Hello everyone, It seems not too long ago I was saying something about turning the corner on good weather to start driving our cars and now we are into the 2nd half of our short season of driving our Vettes! So make sure you get out there and enjoy. On July 19 th we meet with the Sunburst Corvette Club from Crystal Lake Illinois on Old Falls Street in Niagara Falls. The Sunburst Club members were as I expected fun and outgoing. They were excited to meet with us but unfortunately it rained all day, but never the less everyone had a good time. There was plenty of laughing, telling of corvette stories and guess what eating. The Sunburst Club members like most corvette people love to eat and drive their cars. They were very impressed with the turnout that our club had considering it rained all day. Corvettes of Buffalo had 17 corvettes and their club had 20 corvettes. Once again thanks to all our members who came out to meet and greet. By the way I bet a double order of chicken wings against a deep dish Chicago pizza that the Bills will beat the Bears in this year s opening day game in Chicago on September 7 th. I want to remind everyone that there is no August meeting at the church in its place is our C.O.B. picnic on August 10 th at Gratwick Hose Co. Finally I want to remind everyone that the C.O.B. nominations are coming up in September so please give some thought to possibly running for an Office and or the Board. All you need to be is a member in good standing. Drive Safe Mike B. September 1 St. Gregory Great Car Show, Maple Rd. Wmsvl, NY 9am 4pm September 6 Antique Boat Show & Car Show Bflo. Corvettes at Carlisle by Skip Polowy & Dick Brownlee Corvettes at Carlisle 2014 was attended by several COB members this year. Six cars caravanned down through the beautiful southern tier of New York State and into the Pennsylvania hills. Upon arrival at the Fairgrounds the members were welcomed into the NCCC show field. This area was provided for NCCC members and was well staffed by members of the York County Corvette Club. Each car was Tech checked before being parked in the areas reserved for each generation. Every morning the York Club treated us to a breakfast sandwich and coffee and on Saturday provided a lunch to all NCCC members. As usual the fairgrounds were literally covered with Corvettes. With the fun field, the car corral, the midway, installation alley, several free seminars, the NCRS gallery, the burnout contest, the swap meet area and the Saturday evening parade there were more than enough activities to keep everyone interested. Throughout the grounds every generation of the Corvette was represented as well as specialty cars in the various buildings. New this year was The Quest. As you walked the aisles you were asked to find seven large banners that represented each generation. At each banner was a person stamping your program and after finding all seven you were awarded your first annual Carlisle Quest Pin. Weather was somewhat damp at times but never did stop the fun. COB members enjoyed the events and gathered at the club tent each day to compare notes and check each other s purchases. You tube caught an aerial view of the fairgrounds and featured Corvettes of Buffalo in the closing minutes. Find it at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i05hb4grkqq. This certainly is an event that every Corvette owner should experience. CORVETTES of BUFFALO pg 6

"The 1963 Fuelie Rides Again" We are proud to share the following article with you, as our "jewel" is recognized and completed after a long hiatus. On August 16th we were up north with our 1963 Corvette Coupe at our summer home in Wasaga Beach, Ontario Canada. The Corvette has not seen a show or event since July 2010 at Salvatore's Italian Garden Corvettes of Buffalo Super Cruise. Due to delays and many problems associated with the restoration of our car we have been frustrated to no end. However, with the help of our friend and neighbor, Bill Mattinis, we were able to get the car presentable for the 2014 Wasaga Beach all Corvette Show on Saturday, August 16th. Needless to say, the weather was a bit balmy, but the "true colors" of our '63 Split Window won the attention of the crowds and also the score sheets of the NCRS judges that were on hand. We took 4 awards that day: First Place for C2 Class 1963 thru 1967 Show and Shine(Open Hood), Corvette Depot's ( Canada's Corvette Parts Dealer) Award, Furthest Distance USA Award, and Corvette Central Cash Certificate Award. The best part of this all Corvette Show was the comradery that evolved throughout the day, especially between our friend Bill and our family that are all Corvette aficionados, and for the help to put our Vette in one of Canada's largest Corvette Shows.
