FISH BITES The Marlins continue the first of two season-long 10-game homestands today with the final game of this threegame set against the Philadelphia Phillies at 1:10 p.m. RHP Dan Straily (3-3, 3.83) is making his second career start and appearance against Phillies. In his only start, tossed 5.0 scoreless frames on May 15, 2016 at Citizens Bank Park. Philadelphia is countering with RHP Aaron Nola (2-2, 4.34), who in three previous starts against the Fish has posted a 1-0 record and 1.35 ERA. Today's national anthem is being performed by the Cassie Ortiz. Miami's current homestand began with the Fish taking two of three from the Los Angeles Angels and will continue after this series with a four-game set against Arizona. The Marlins returned home from their most recent road trip last Thursday, going 2-4 against the Los Angeles Dodgers (1-3) and Oakland Athletics (1-1). LAST NIGHT VS. PHILLIES Miami won its third game in a row with a 7-2 win over the Philadelphia Phillies. With no score in the bottom of the second, Marcell Ozuna led things off with his 13th home run of the season. The Marlins added another run later in the inning to take a 2-0 lead. In the third, Miami tallied five runs, two on Giancarlo Stanton's 14th home run of the season, to take a commanding 7-0 lead. Ozuna led Miami with three hits, while both Dee Gordon and Justin Bour added two hits each. Justin Nicolino started and looked sharp for Miami, tossing 3.0 perfect innings before being removed due to a left index finger contusion. Dustin McGowan improved to 2-0, going 3.0 innings with two hits and one run allowed. ELIAS SAYS The Marlins, led by three innings of work from both starting pitcher Justin Nicolino (who left the game early with an injury) and relief pitcher Dustin McGowan, surrendered just two runs to the Phillies in their win on Tuesday. That is the third straight game in which Miami allowed two-or-fewer runs, the second-longest streak of this type for the team since the start of the 2016 season. They had a four-game streak from August 20 to 24 last season. AGAINST THE PHILLIES This series is the first for the Phillies at Marlins Park this season. The two teams met in Philadelphia from April 26-27, with the Marlins dropping two games after the opener of the three-game set was rained out. That game has been rescheduled for an August 22 doubleheader starting at 4:05 p.m. Miami went 9-10 against the Phillies in 2016, which included a 4-5 mark in Miami. The Fish own a 104-96 record against the Phils in South Florida (26-22 at Marlins Park), yet trail the all-time series 181-220. SWEEP INFO Miami is looking to record its first three-game sweep since August 19-21, 2016 at Pittsburgh. The Marlins haven't swept the Phillies in a three-game series since June 29-July 1, 2012. It would mark just the ninth sweep in a three-game series against Philadelphia all-time, and the fifth time at home. UP NEXT The Fish will welcome the Arizona Diamondbacks for the last series of this homestand starting tomorrow night at 7:10 p.m. Miami took four of six from the D-backs in the 2016 series, including a three-game sweep here at Marlins Park from May 3-5. The Marlins are 34-35 against the Diamondbacks in South Florida, 8-10 at Marlins Park, and trail the all-time series, 59-76. HITTING NEW LOWS Coming into this afternoon's start, Marlins starter Dan Straily has posted the lowest hits-per-9.0 innings ratio in the National League, second in the Majors, at 5.67. He trails just Ervin Santana, who has allowed 4.21 H/9.0. Straily has dropped his H/9.0 numbers each of the last four seasons, and has never finished a season under 7.0. Last year, he ranked 11th in Major League baseball with 7.24 H/9.0. Prior to 2016, he had marks of 8.64 and 9.17 in 2015 and 2014, respectively. RIDDLE ROLLING Since May 15, rookie JT Riddle has hit.327 (17x52) with six doubles, two home runs and 10 RBI, and has set a season-best with a current five-game hitting streak. In 19 games since being recalled from Triple-A New Orleans on May 9, he has batted.288 (17x59) with six doubles, two home runs and 11 RBI. In his first stint with Miami this season, from April 11-18, he recorded just two hits in 14 a-bats (.143) with one home run and three RBI. FOR STARTERS The Marlins starting rotation, which has used the services of nine different pitchers, has limited the home run this season, allowing 37, which is tied for sixth-fewest in the Majors. The rotation has also limited opponents to 8.01 hits/9.0 innings, third in MLB, while their 226 hits allowed are the fewest in Baseball. The starting staff also ranks third in opponents average at.237. PICKING UP STEAM Since May 19, Miami's offense has paced Major League Baseball with a.301 average, while its.360 on-base percentage ranks second, behind only Boston (.374). In that same span, Marlins hitters have recorded the second-fewest strikeouts (tied with Kansas City - 73), more than only the Toronto Blue Jays (64). Dee Gordon leads Miami's offense in that time, as well as the Majors, with a.436 average (17x39). JT Riddle and Giancarlo Stanton lead the Club and are tied for 10th in MLB with 10 RBI.
