These roles are not time-consuming but critical should the need arise. Ideally, these roles should be filled by parents from within the Club membership. Over the winter the Club has organised a Level 1 Officials course and a Coaching Assistant course. Shona Malcolm and Mike Forrest came to Shetland Field and Timekeeping courses that were very informative and allows us to officiate even more effectively. The recent Coaching Assistant course saw Joe Nicolson, Hayley Davies, Connor Macdonald, Leigh Nicolson and Mhia Mouat take the first steps in coaching. A

Taking part in a short sprint, long race, Shot Put and Long Jump it was obvious training was paying off! Some great performances from our up and coming stars! Sarah-Marie, Eve and Aimee with their medals Wiseman on their Team Silver. Sarah-Marie went on to represent the North Scotland team at the Inter District Championships in Edinburgh where she also managed a selfie with Sir Mo Farah! "The end of a good day!"

North District Championships This has been a great opportunity for younger athletes to experience competition in a match This has been well documented on social media format. It was a breathless couple of days competition with a great bunch of athletes who all did the Club proud. YDL Match 1 "Who's up next?" Breaking News!!! Following a very successful Match 3 in Inverness, the Island Select U13/15 and U17 teams have both qualified for the Final in July. A great effort from the athletes representing all! Junior Inter County "Take a bow!" Youth Development League Shetland athletes have been in the Islands Select team that features Shetland, Orkney and the Western Isles Clubs combining to compete in the North East Division. What a fantastic start to the annual competition with our island neighbours! From the get go there was a quiet determination that ran through the Shetland team. The Inter County is all about points and the athletes were on the front foot from the outset. Match 1 - Lewis Barclay, 200m "That'll be a 1-2" Bobby and Lewis, 400m

It was great to see our younger athletes really 1500m and a Gold in the 800m. Both of these come to the fore and produce many great were new Senior Shetland records, the latter performances. The highlights of the match must reduced by nearly 3 seconds! Leigh Nicolson be Lucy Holden s new Inter County record of picked up her Silver in the Javelin event. Katie 1.61m, held jointly with Amy Davis of Orkney. Dinwoodie picked up Bronze medals in the 100m Lucy, however, won on the day through count and 200m C category. Seumas and Leigh have back. Her efforts also bettered her Senior been selected to represent Scottish Schools in Women s record by 1cm! A new experience for some, hopefully they will enjoy the atmosphere of the friendly games and do their very best. We are sure to see plenty of social media activity along with live streams. It s become such a small world! Friday Night Series There have been 4 events to date and these will begin again in July. The FNS is about participation and trying out all the athletic disciplines available to the Club. You can keep up to date with results on the website and Facebook pages. Scottish Age Group and Senior Championships These take place in the second half of August with the Under 13, 15 and 20 s competing at Scotstoun in Glasgow and the Under 17 and Seniors a week later in Grangemouth.

Club Championships June Newsletter Membership The Clubs season finale will take place over the weekend of 9 th /10 th September. Keep an eye open for entry forms. These events are once more sponsored by T L Dallas. CLUB STUFF! Funding We have been successful recently with funding awards from Scottish Sea Farms ( 3000) and Tesco ( 5000). The SSF grant will be used to purchase equipment for use by our younger athletes. Much of this will be sportshall style equipment that is colourful and perfect for use indoors. The Tesco funding is being used to purchase safety and competition equipment some of which is already in use. The Club are grateful to both funders and we look forward to many years use for the equipment. Fundraising Helen Smith and her group are doing a great job with fundraising for the Club. A variety of activities are going a long way to meeting the Club s fundraising targets. Some fundraising will be for general Club while others are targeted to reduce costs, particularly away trips. Any events, raffles etc. will be advertised so keep an eye on the website and Facebook pages. It is very important that all members are paying Memberships and training fees. Please check you are paying the correct monthly Standing Order. Zoe Anderson has been in touch with most people but you can help us by spending a moment checking your details. We remain one of the most affordable sports but this can only be maintained if our membership pays its dues. AGM This will be in late September. This is an important event in the Club calendar. The Club exists for its membership and this meeting is your opportunity to have your say. Please get the date in your diary when it s known and make every effort to attend. Registration Night IMPORTANT All members MUST renew their memberships to keep their place and we will be letting you know when this event will be. We have a very lengthy waiting list and if athletes fail to register for the next year, they may lose their place. Another date for the diary! Awards Evening Our Awards Evening will also take place in late September/early October. We will be advertising details shortly.
