Off The Wing by Barry Hansen Well, the 32nd Annual Cowtown Mopars Spring Car Show is history. And it made history. All went beautiful in spite of some obstacles. The day started out cold, windy and overcast. About 9am their was a long line of beautiful cars on the service road waiting to get in and by noon we had met or exceeded our best car show count to date. It was wonderful to see all the new cars from Classic CDJRF including some 2019 models and the T/A Challenger right in the front door of Summit. Always a crowd around it. And I did not realize until I got the show photos that our own Dan Dunfee was in the firesuit in the cockpit the last time they fired off the dragster. See pictures below. Lots and lots of beautiful cars of every age and type. Nothing but good feedback from the staff of Classic CDJRF who were attending, from some other dealership folks attending and from our host, Summit Racing. Summit is already talking about plans for next year's show if we want to have it there. Extensive coverage and pictures in this issue of Starting Line. Can't put it down dept..re: my review of Match Race Mayhem from last month. Still reading and really really enjoying this book. Very well written, every page has a great story or antidote. And the pictures...the inside title page has a two page color picture of Green Valley Race City on the starting line with a '67 Mustang and '66 GTO in front of the famous covered starting line seating. I have written of my recent purchases Dodge Brothers 100 Years, Dandy Dick Landy and Proving Grounds, a History of CDP Racing. They are all good but this has to be the best. I am getting to relive growing up at Green Valley, Kennedale Raceway and Dallas International Motor Speedway all over again. What a great trip. Get it at Summit Racing, Amazon and Barnes and Noble. The saga continues dept...work feverishly every night the week before the car show on the Charger. Carefully as I could installed a new intake manifold. Started it up that Friday night and would not idle at all. Vacuum gauge says 10 of vac at 2000 rpm and 5 of vac at 1200 rpm idle just before it dies. New cam is not that big and even if it was it should pull more vac that that. I wonder if I got the multiple keyway timing chain crank gear in the wrong position. Will check for possible blown out power valves on the Holley per suggestion from work before I pull the timing cover off. It continues... The wonderful thing about Mopars... Is that Mopars are wonderful things. (with apologies to A. A. Milnes) Dragster Dan More from the Spring Car show Suited up His ride, the Jenkins-T Bar-Cortines front engine T/F dragster

The Go Fast(er) Department Bobby Avis and Don Deering Race Team Coordinators Mike Bearse TMCCC Rep And now...seventeen TIME TMCCC CHAMPIONS!!!! Hello fellow Cowtown Mopar members. The race team headed out to Abilene to Big Country Raceway. They have a great facility and run a smooth program. We had 18 racers and four received awards. Not a bad start to the season. I would like to thank Don and JoAn Deering for making sure we all had something to eat and Bill and Becky Boon for bringing everything we need to set it all up. We will be heading out to the new Xtreme Raceway Park in Ferris on May 5 (Sat 2p-11p) so come on out. It s one of the closest venues we have this season. Hope to see you at the track! Cowtown Mopars Spring Car Show a big success The 32 nd Annual Cowtown Mopars Spring Car Show is in the books. A great showing of all types, styles and ages of Mopars were displayed, crowds all day long, Classic CDJRF dealership vehicles inside and around the store. A working front engine T/F dragster. And all taking place front and center at Summit Racing Equipment. I am told we met or beat our best past car show with 104 judged entries and 50-60 in show and shine. This reporter, Cowtown Mopar member and Summit Racing employee could not have been more proud of Saturday, April 14. At 7am, cold and windy, great group of Cowtown and Summit volunteers set up. About 9am the line of cars on the service road started queuing up and did not stop for the next two hours. The diversity of vehicles was fascinating. Of course 60s and 70s Mopars represented across the board. Some 50s and earlier Mopars included a beautiful coupe and pick up. Some great front wheel drives and a couple of front wheel drive converted to tire shredding rear wheel drives. The LX contingent was in force and numbers, great to see them attend and walk off with several prizes. Some of the things they are doing with the modern Chargers, Challengers, Magnums and 300s are amazing. Our AMC friends were out in force with some stunning AMXs, Javelins, a Hurst ScRambler and others. And Jeeps, let's not forget the Wranglers and others. Jenkins-T Bar-Cortines (friends of Cowtown Mopars) brought their front engine T/F dragster and set up right in front of the store. They fired it up on nitro twice courtesy of The Texas Trailer Man and Classic CDJRF sponsorships. Dan Dunfree, Cowtown member and Service Mgr of Classic CDJRF put on the old firesuit and goggles and climbed in the cockpit for one of the firings. See the pictures. One of my favorite things is to stand next to someone who has never heard a T/F fire off before. Forget NASCAR, Indy, Gran Prix, there and only there is your real power. Thank you J-T-C for helping make it a great day. The Little Red Wagon (gotta love the name) food truck, a favorite of Cowtown Mopars, was back and did a brisk business all day. I told fellow Summit employees all week the food truck would be here. Nothing but compliments from everyone who tried them. Two other food trucks were invited but did not attend. Their loss. I really enjoyed seeing so many kid out there. This shows me the millennials are raising up a good group of next generation gearheads, boys and girls, and that our hobby can rest easy. Classic CDKRF, our dealership sponsor, brought no less than 12 cars and trucks to display at the show. We had a T/A Challenger right inside the store, always a crowd around it. 11 more vehicles including a 2019 Wrangler and 2019 Ram truck were prominently displayed. I really like that new Wrangler. No dealership has ever gotten behind our shows like Classic CJDRF. Vehicles, grab bag goodies, door prizes, coupons, personnel, advertising and more. Dan Dunfree organized it. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Summit Racing Equipment, our host, could not have been more accommodating. Need a secure place for 12 brand new dealer cars, pull them in the warehouse. Meeting rooms (with food) for several planning sessions. Need communications, professional walkie talkies provided. Huge box of grab bag goodies. Need door prizes, how many do you want? Security, personnel, managers on call, flyers in the store and on the website and more. Porta Potties, they got that bill (which blew over twice in the wind, no one inside though). Summit is already talking about next year. We must thank our show sponsors, the list is long and distinguished this year. Bill's Half Price Auto Repair, Denton Transco, Kurt Schuster Electric, Joe's Machine Shop, Phoenix Trans, Photography by Lydia, Professional Welding, The Ram Man, Randy Buntyn, SpeedTek, Texas Trailer Man, Vantage Administrators, Wards Body Shop and Windsor Classics and Collision. All great show sponsors. Thanks to you all. Last but not least we must thank the board and all the volunteers. This started in November with lots of meetings, emails, texts, phone calls. It was a group effort. If I tried to list them I would leave somebody out. However special mention must be made of Lydia Dickey and Kurt Schuster. Lydia had meeting after meeting follow up after follow up until all was worked out and Kurt sweated every detail and what-if until we had all bases covered. Special thanks to you both. See you next year, bigger and better. Barry Hansen Ace reporter Quite an eclectic line The show runs on lots of great volunteers Corinthian leather anyone?
