FISH BITES The Marlins open their final series of the season against the Phillies tonight at 7:05 p.m., with RHP Tom Koehler facing off with LHP Adam Morgan at Citizens Bank Park. Koehler is 4-4, 3.42 in 15 career appearances (13 starts) against Philadelphia, including a 2-1, 1.29 mark in four starts this season; he has won his last two starts against them. Morgan is 1-0, 2.19 in two career starts against the Fish, with the win coming in his one start this season, on September 6 in Miami. Following this series, the Marlins return home for their final homestand of the season, a 10-game stretch against the Nationals (Sept. 19-21), Braves (Sept. 22-25), and Mets (Sept. 26-28). That is followed by a brief three-game stop in Washington D.C.(Sept. 30-Oct. 2) to wrap up the regular season schedule. WEDNESDAY NIGHT AT ATLANTA The Marlins won the rubber match of their final series at Turner Field, 7-5. Miami jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning but fell behind after a four-run second for Atlanta. The Fish took the lead for good with a four-run inning of their own in the sixth. Derek Dietrich started the scoring, legging out an RBI-infield single, and came around to score threebatters later on a go-ahead, three-run homer by Marcell Ozuna. José Fernández picked up his 15 th win, allowing four runs on six hits (one home run), two walks, and a hit batter over 7.0 innings, with three strikeouts. YESTERDAY'S TRANSACTIONS The Marlins yesterday claimed RHP Odrisamer Despaigne off waivers from Baltimore and designated UTL Robert Andino for assignment. IT ALL COMES DOWN TO THIS The season series between the Marlins and Phillies will be decided this weekend, as the Clubs open play tonight knotted at 8-8 for the year. Miami is looking for its first season-series victory over the Phillies since going 10-8 in 2008. Entering this campaign, that seven-year drought of season-series losses against a division opponent was tied for the longest in baseball. The White Sox had also lost seven-straight season series to Detroit, which has already clinched an eighthstraight winning season against Chicago this year (12-7). - STATS LLC HITTING LEFTIES RIGHT The Marlins, who face southpaw Adam Morgan tonight, are tied for the Major League lead with a.667 winning percentage (22-11) in games started by left handed pitchers. Pittsburgh (.667/18-9) is tied with the Fish, ahead of Milwaukee (.644/29-16), Cleveland (.638/30-17), and the Cubs (.622/28-17). Miami has the fourth-highest team average in the National League vs. lefties this season at.265, behind Arizona (.278), Colorado (.267), and Pittsburgh (.266), while Martín Prado leads the Majors among individuals, batting.421 (51x121). - STATS LLC MR. DEPENDABLE Tom Koehler is scheduled to make his 30 th start of the season tonight. According to STATS LLC, he will become just the third Marlins' pitcher to reach the 30-start plateau in three straight seasons, joining Dontrelle Willis, who did it in four straight seasons from 2004-07, and Scott Olsen (2006-08). Ricky Nolasco is the only other pitcher in Club history to have at least three 30-start seasons (2008-09 and 2011-12). TRIPLE 7'S The Marlins scored exactly seven runs in each of their three games against Atlanta from Monday-Wednesday. It was just the fifth time in Club history that the team scored at least seven runs in each game of a series (min. three games), and the first time since July 25-27, 2003 vs. the Phillies. The Marlins also did it from June 27-29, 2003 at Boston, September 29-October 1, 2000 vs. Philadelphia, and June 4-6, 1999 vs. Tampa Bay. It was also the first time the Marlins had the same run total in each game of a series since being shutout by Milwaukee over three games in July 2013. - STATS LLC ANOTHER MILESTONE REACHED Ichiro Suzuki recorded the 900 th multi-hit game of his career Tuesday night. Among players in the modern era (since 1900), his 900 multi-hit games rank 15 th all-time. Among players who debuted in the last 40 years (since 1977), only Derek Jeter (1,014), Paul Molitor (967), Tony Gwynn (951), and Eddie Murray (934) recorded more multi-hit games. - Elias GO AHEAD OF ME Christian Yelich notched his 34 th go-ahead RBI of the season Tuesday night in Atlanta, which leads the Majors. According to STATS LLC, Yelich has the second-most go-ahead RBI in a season in Club history, behind Preston Wilson's mark of 35 in 2000. His 33 rd go-ahead RBI on Sunday vs. the Dodgers would also prove to be his 13 th game-winning RBI of the season, tied with several players for 15 th in the Majors, behind leader Nolan Arenado (19). The Club record for that stat, again according to STATS LLC, is 21 by Gary Sheffield in 1996; Yelich is currently tied with Giancarlo Stanton (2014), Kevin Millar (2001), and Cliff Floyd (2001) for 15 th. AFTER THE BREAK J.T. Realmuto, who was 2x4 with a double on Wednesday in Atlanta, has 260 hits, 50 doubles, and 20 home runs in his first two full seasons as a catcher (excluding stats from his 11 games in 2014). According to STATS LLC, he is just the fifth catcher in MLB history to reach those plateaus in his first two full seasons as a catcher, joining Johnny Bench from 1968-69 (311 hits-63 doubles-41 homers), Benito Santiago from 1987-88 (286-55-28), Kenji Johjima from 2006-07 (286-54-32), and Russell Martin from 2006-07 (275-58-29). ABOVE AVERAGE The Marlins currently have three qualifying players hitting.300-or-higher: J.T. Realmuto (.313), Martín Prado (.309), and Christian Yelich (.304). Realmuto ranks seventh in the NL, Prado ninth, and Yelich 12 th. The Marlins are one of just two NL teams that currently have three hitters batting.300-or-better, joining Colorado (DJ LeMahieu-.346, Charlie Blackmon-.319, Carlos Gonzalez-.300). The last time the Marlins had three regulars finish over.300 was in 2005: Miguel Cabrera (.323), Carlos Delgado (.301) and Luis Castillo (.301).
