The under 15 girls team has played their first game this year against southport at southport on Wednesday night 24/04/13. We had a short number of players this round only nine players so southport were kind enough to lend three players to us. The game was a tight contest from the first ball up with our girls getting some good clearances out of the centre but with the southport side being a little stronger their tackles proved to beat us this time. Early in the first qtr Amber took a heavy knock from a tackle and was taken from the ground very dizzy and couldn't remember the tackle at all and unfortunately ended up in hospital with concussion, we wish her a speedy recovery from all the team. We have some skilled players in our team and passing the ball around the ground and up the middle was a pleasure to watch. The scoreboard did not reflect the way our girls played and we have plenty in the tank for the next game. Our broady girls never gave in and were looking forward to backing up in the under 18s. Our next game is at home against cararra. Let's go the mighty catz girls team. Simon Dockrey YOUTH GIRLS AFL Women and girls participate at all levels of Australian football, as players, umpires, coaches and fans. AFLGCJ has Under 15 and an Under 18 Girls competitions. Matches are played on Wednesday evenings. The AFL has a clear pathway for femal football from Club to representative Youth Girls football We are looking for more girls to join our Youth Girls team for both the U15 s and u18 s age groups. It is a fun environment whilst you are staying fit and healthy learning the great game of AFL. If you have friends in this age group please let them know how much fun you have been having at training. A new ruling is now in place for the Youth s Girl s Football, u19 s girls are allowed to also play with the U18 s BUT only one u19 s girl is allowed on the field for each team at a time. It must still be kept fair for the other girls. Rulings for our Youth Girls Footy can be found on our website. Have fun girls tonight at your games against Southport and remember you are representing Broadbeach AFL Club. If you have long nails, either cover them with tape or bandaids for the game and tie your hair back plus NO jewellery to be worn during all games.

2013 Broadbeach Weekly Coaches Reports NB: Ladders have been included in this newsletter and for future rounds they will be displayed on the Cats website. Broadbeach Junior AFL Club Coaches Report Age Group: Super6s Teams Played: Score: Coaches Report: _The Super6s had lots of fun on Friday at footy. It was great to see so many players remembering to do their homework. After some warm-up games we broke into two groups. One group played our modified game of AFL where we divide the ground into thirds and have positions of centre (C), back (B) and forward (F). The other group worked on their kicking, marking and handpassing skills. It was great to see so many mums and dads helping out, both with the AFL game and with the skills. We have been working on our handpassing by picking up a moving ball and then handpassing it on, also our kicking, remembering to drop the ball onto our kicking foot. Everyone enjoyed playing catch the coach out handpassing game, but this week Daniel didn t drop the ball and so didn t have to run laps of the circle! It was very pleasing to see so many of the Super6 players having fun and enjoying playing AFL. We can already see that our skills and knowledge of the game are improving when we play the modified games. Keep up the good work Super6s and remember our homework question for this week. Who did the Suns play on the weekend? Who won? For bonus points, what was the winning margin? We look forward to seeing everyone this Friday. Daniel and Josh Best on Ground: Heather Wheatley Members to Thank in Team: Josh for umpiring, all the parents who were involved in helping with skills and the game. Age Group: Under 10 s Round 2 report: Finally after 8 weeks of training and a rain delay, the u10 boys took to the field for round 2 at our home ground v palm beach. It was a very impressive start to the 2013 season for all 3 teams. The boys played unbelievable footy for u10s. Their teamwork, skills and attitude is a credit to the boys. The broadbeach junior club is in great shape for years to come with this group of u10s. A big thanks also goes out to the parents who helped out Friday night and at all of our training sessions. Regards, Shane Wilson

Broadbeach Junior AFL Club Coaches Report Age Group: U12 s Division 1 Teams Played: Broadbeach v- Palm Beach Score: Broadbeach 15:10:100 to Palm Beach 2:6:18 Coaches Report: The team we compiled this year has been one in the making for 5 years. Most of the boys have been playing together since U8's. The new additions since have provided more depth to the existing talent. After having the first game cancelled due to rain then a bye in round 2, everyone was peaking to play given this year we play for a premiership. Nobody was disappointed. For a relatively small team compared to Palm Beach, our heart size could not be matched or disputed. Our tenacity at ground level saw some amazing displays of courage for the hard ball gets. We moved the ball exceptionally well away from the stoppages with a strong running game and great handballs, followed by shepherding and the kicks down field were efficient. We managed to force possession turnovers time and time again due to strong tackling. Our overhead marks were strong and the frequent player rotations gave us constant fresh legs. We will need to concentrate on our positional play because the forward line was flooded too often and our efforts, particularly in the 1st quarter were wasted when we failed to capitalise with 6 pointers at least a dozen times when we got inside 50. Overall, a great effort boys. Best on Ground: Ky Newitt and Harry Tonks Awards to: Members to Thank in Team: Ben Mizzi, Elijah Semaan, Mitch Roberts and Lachlan Sosinski (all others contributed well) Broadbeach Junior AFL Club Coaches Report Age Group: U 13 Div 2 Teams Played: Carrara Score: Coaches Report: _The boys started off a bit slow for the second week in a row. The third & fourth quarters were a lot better, when asked to give more effort the boys responded well & managed to score a great team goal as well as keeping the opposition to one goal. We just need that effort in all four quarters then things will quickly improve for our team. Best on Ground: Awards to: Members to Thank in Team: All Coaches reports can also be read on the Broadbeach Juniors website. www.broadbeachcats.com.au click onto your team and find your reports for the season. Please remember your help is always valuable and appreciated by all committee and club members. Thank you to all volunteers who assisted in Rnd 2 at Broadbeach Home games. A roster is now in place so please see your Team Manager on when you can help out throughout the season.

Round 2 Age group: Broadbeach 13 Div Junior BB v AFL Southport Club Coaches Score: 6.4.40 Report to 10.11.71 1 Age Group: Under 13 Division 1 Teams Played: Palm Beach Score: 9.7.61 v 3.3.21 Coaches Report: A really pleasing performance by the entire team over 4 quarters. The pressure and teamwork continues to improve each week. There were many wonderful individual performances during the match but what was evident is the boys working for each other at every contest and continuing to use good teamwork and skill execution. We need to continue to work hard at training to ensure our development across the entire squad maintains a level of improvement. Let s keep up the momentum and look forward to a good showing this week. Coach MILT Broadbeach Junior AFL Club Coaches Report Age Group: 14-1 Teams Played: PBC v BB Score: 9.12-66 to 4.2-26 Coaches Report: _A very competitive effort by all 19 players, which was an extremely pleasing result compared to last week. Our defence was fantastic, with Christian and Scholly leading the way and Al a rock in the ruck. Ryley continued his great form, and with Brownie, created many opportunities with their run and carry. Big Ishaan kicked a couple of long goals, giving the team some reward for effort. All in all, an effort Mark and I were proud of. Best on Ground: Christian Awards to: Christian, Ryley, Brownie, Al. Broadbeach Junior AFL Club Coaches Report Age Group: 14-2 Teams Played: PBC v BB Score: 6.15-51 to 1.3-9 Coaches Report: A great effort by all the boys. Especially the U 13 s who were backing up. We were comparatively undersized but never shirked the contest and fought the game right out. Zac dominated around the ground, and Brownie continued his form on from the 14-1 s, raking in the posessions. Matt L was great down back and JJ found plenty of the ball. A big well done to the smallest bloke on our team, Danny. His fearless attack on the ball, second and third efforts and sheer desire, should be commended, and an inspiration to the whole team. Keep at it boys, a win is just around the corner. Andy, Mark and Patch. Best on Ground: Zac Hayes Awards to: Zac, Brownie, JJ and Danny.

Broadbeach Junior AFL Club Coaches Report Age Group: U/16 DIV 1 Teams Played: COOMERA Score: 3.2 20 DEF BY COOMERA 13.2 80 Coaches Report: on a clear night we played a team that moved the ball very well and quick. The opposition were keen to take advantage of a depleted side, that being said we did not work hard enough when the opposition had the footy and we did not play the full 20min out each qrtr. We must get better at our desire to work when we don t have the football. We did have some outstanding individual efforts and Jack Linton was best on the ground played fullback and his run with the footy was great well done Jack. Deane Gallagher did a shut down job for the last 3 qrt on one of the best players in our competition and took the points. Another huge challenge this week against Northern Rivers and well done to the boys that backed up on Saturday in Div 2. The game seesawed quarter by quarter - great games from Snake, Alex, Jock, Rhys, Hazza, JD, with many more contributing throughout the game. Like Chris, I think we have the makings of a great team.
