FISH BITES The Marlins continue their three-series, nine-game homestand tonight with game two of this three-game set against the Atlanta Braves at 7:10 p.m. RHP Edinson Volquez (0-4, 4.71) is facing the Braves for the ninth time in his career, with a lifetime record of 4-3 with a 2.89 ERA. Opposing Volquez is RHP Julio Teheran (2-3, 4.69), who in 15 previous starts against the Fish is 5-4 with a 3.46 ERA. Tonight's ceremonial first pitches are being thrown out by Vivian Casals- Munoz of Hialeah Park Racing, Cole Anderson of Boy Scouts Troop 118, Bayardo Aleman of the Cuban American Bar Association, and Steven Bauer & Ana Margo of Que Pasa, USA? The national anthem is being performed by Peter Fernandez. Tonight is Cuban Heritage Night at Marlins Park in celebration of the 40th Anniversary of Que Pasa, USA? Miami takes to the road again on Thursday for a four-game series in Los Angeles against the Dodgers (May 18-21) and a two-game set in Oakland (May 23-24). LAST NIGHT AGAINST ATLANTA Miami dropped an 8-4 decision to the Atlanta Braves in the series opener, running its losing streak to four games to tie a season long skid. Atlanta struck first, scoring two runs off José Ureña in the second inning. However, the Marlins didn't sit idly by, as Justin Bour cut the deficit to one in the fourth with his sixth home run of the year. The game remained 2-1 until the seventh, when the Braves erupted for six runs to take a commanding 8-2 lead. In the bottom of the seventh, the Fish rallied for two runs, both coming on J.T. Realmuto's third home run of the year. Derek Dietrich finished out Miami's end of the scoring with his first home run of the year in the ninth. Ureña (1-1) surrendered two runs on six hits and three walks, while striking out four, over 6.0 solid innings, taking his first loss of the season. AGAINST THE BRAVES This is the second meeting of the season between Miami and Atlanta, both at Marlins Park, as the Braves were in town to open Miami's home slate from April 11-12, a two-game split. The Marlins are 90-108 against the Braves in South Florida, which includes a 15-33 mark at Marlins Park, and 167-231 overall. TODAY'S TRANSACTIONS The Marlins today reinstated RHP Edinson Volquez from the 10-day disabled list and optioned RHP Brian Ellington to Triple-A New Orleans. Volquez was placed on the DL with a right thumb blister on May 3. SOUTHERN CHARM In his eight career starts against Atlanta, Edinson Volquez has produced a 4-3 record and 2.89 ERA (46.2 ip/15 er). His ERA versus the Braves is the fourth-lowest of any opponent he has faced (min. 7 starts). He owns lower ERA's against the Marlins (1.47), Philadelphia (2.30) and Minnesota (2.73). SERIES COMEBACK The Braves and Marlins are two of the top teams in the National League in percentage of wins via comeback, as Atlanta leads with 66.7% (8 of 12) of its wins when coming from behind. Arizona ranks second at 61.9%, followed by Miami at third with 61.5% (8 of 13). To round out the top five, Washington (59.1) ranks fourth and the Cubs (55,5) fifth. - Stats LLC INJURY HELPLINE! Through the first 34 games of the season, Miami has used the services of 33 different players. Despite the high amount, it is only tied for 12th-most among all Major League teams, yet is tied for the second-most through the first 34 games of a season in Marlins history (also 1998). The Marlins have placed five players on the disabled list this month alone; Edinson Volquez (right thumb blister), Wei-Yin Chen (left arm fatigue), Martín Prado (right hamstring strain), Miguel Rojas (right thumb fracture), and Adeiny Hechavarria (left oblique strain). Miami has started four different players at shortstop, tied with Colorado for most in MLB. - Stats, LLC SPEE-DEE Dee Gordon stole two bases Wednesday against St. Louis, bringing his season total to 11. He is tied with A.J. Pollock for second in Major League Baseball, behind Billy Hamilton (19). In the month of May, Gordon has swiped seven bags, also second in the Majors to Hamilton (9), with no other player stealing more than four. Gordon's record for most stolen bases in a single month is 21, done in May 2014. DELIVERING IN TIMES OF NEED With his first-inning home run Wednesday, Christian Yelich recorded his ninth go-ahead RBI of the season. He is tied with Joey Votto for second in the National League, and tied for third in the Majors, behind Nolan Arenado (10) and Albert Pujos (10). Since the start of 2015, Yelich is tied with Daniel Murphy for seventh in the NL in go-ahead RBI (56), behind Arenado (71), Matt Kemp (68), Bryce Harper (63), Paul Goldschmidt (62), Joey Votto (60) and Kris Bryant (58). THE BEAR'S DEN Marcell Ozuna has been solid at home this season, recording at-least one hit in 12 of 15 games with an average of.365 (19x52), seven home runs and 16 RBI. His seven home runs at home are tied with Charlie Blackmon and Joey Votto for second in the National League, behind Mark Reynolds (9). His home average ranks eighth, while his RBI total is tied for 10th with Maikel Franco and Anthony Rendon. Prior to this season, Ozuna was a career.271 hitter at Marlins Park, recording 26 home runs and 123 RBI in 247 games.
