From Commodore Elect Brian Fuchs Hello members of NERYC - Each year in November we have the annual tradition of the Change of Watch for the bridge officers of the club and new committee chairpersons. As the incoming Commodore for NERYC, I would like to take this time to thank the Immediate Past Commodore Paul Miller and Lady Laura for their years of service on the Board of Governors (BOG). Paul and Laura contributed to several projects over the past years, not only in the day-to-day operations of the club, but also to help beautify the club and enrich the member experience. And let s not discount hosting some fun themed dinners, parties and cruise destinations as Rear Commodore and Fleet Captain. I would also like to take this time to thank our soon to be (IPC) Immediate Past Commodore Bob Molloy and Lady Vivian, for their commitment to serving our great club. Bob and Vivian over the years have contributed to the day-to-day operations, IT management, Waterline editing and in many other ways to keep the club organized and well informed. I look forward to Bob s continued guidance and support as the new IPC for 2019. Thank you again, both Paul and Bob, along with all past Commodores and past committee chairpersons. You are not to be lost or forgotten, rather Paul and Bob will be part of the new group of past Commodores that we, as the current board, can call and lean on for advice and guidance. And I thank you in advance for taking my calls when we need your help count on a few calls from me. Looking ahead into the new BOG, we have assembled a great team and are busy planning the 2019 program. We are working hard to get the budget approved, line up special events for members and make continued improvements to the club via our Capital Fund Campaign. If you are interested in volunteering your time and talents, we have plenty of opportunities to get involved. In the near term, please look for announcements in the Waterline, NERYC s website Calendar, Facebook page and club emails regarding upcoming events closing out 2018. We look forward to seeing you at The 89 th Commodores Ball, Jr Sail Awards Dinner, Wassail Bowl Holiday and the New Year s Eve Party. Thank You Brian Fuchs

2018 Burgee Project by Volunteer Patty Reno This past winter I took it upon myself, with the permission of the House Committee, to reorganize and catalog our burgee collection. As it turned out, it was a time consuming, but thoroughly enjoyable project. I started out by taking down all of the burgees that were on the walls in the Burgee Lounge and washed them. I laid them all out on the floor of my office, and started to catalog the different burgees. I found most of them on the website burgees.com. Others I found from the CBYCA directory. All in all, it took roughly one month to find the vast majority of the burgees in our collection. There are still around 15 burgees that have not been identified. Once all the burgees had been identified, it was time to catalog them. The result of that is the Burgee book, which is hanging in the Burgee Lounge for members to peruse. Next was to get the wood dowels and the hanging boards cut and stained. All in all, it was a fun project to do. It is not complete. It is designed to be a fluid project; so the next time you travel to a new yacht club, please take a couple of NERYC burgees with you and check to see if they have our burgee on display. If not, do a burgee exchange and bring a burgee back with you. I also have a digital form of the burgee book on the website to make it easier for you to find new clubs to add. Visit this link on our website to see the list of Burgees. http://www.neryc.com/pages/clubhouse/burgees.html A big shout out to Susan Andrews, Jane Fox, Claire Brechter, Sue Hanson, Betsey DeNapoli, Josie Dallas, and others for attaching the burgees to the dowels at the Spring Work Day. Thank you to my husband, Chris, for all of his hard work drilling holes, and installing the boards.
JUNIOR SAILING NEWS From Julie Cottage The Fall season for Junior Sailing closed on October 28th at the JV Championships. This year they were at Tred Avon for Saints Peter and Paul. Our team has had a really great season. We are going in with all first places so it should be a lot of fun for the kids. At the time of this writing, we wish them lots of luck and fair winds! Spring season starts in mid-march, for the hardiest kids. Until then, all the planning and maintenance will happen behind the scenes, making it look like magic. It isn't magic, it's hard work, but it makes the magic happen!
