1 The Chatter Jan 2019 Monthly Newsletter of the Central Coast Square Association The by Shirley Hanrion We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and spent time doing so many fun things in life with family and friends. We are now ready to welcome in the new year dancing with great callers and greeting again your dancing friends. To start off the first dance in January, we will have Dale Hoppers coming from Los Angeles to call on Sunday, January 13. Dale is a lot of fun and works his way around the dancing floor and sometimes gets into squares with the dancers too. Our next dance is Sunday, January 27, and we will be having two good people a lot of us have not experienced before, Terry and Janet Passarino coming to us from Ballico. Terry does the calling and Janet cues the round dancing. Please attend both dances as a welcome to all the callers for coming to our area. SLO Motion Squares by David & Susan Cleek Ring in the New Year... Join 8+ RV's and all our fun dancers at the last Winter Festival, Jan 18-20 in King City. There will be some other travel opportunities coming up. Maybe we will look into a visit to the Oceano Melodrama, as we found out one of our favorite callers has not been there... Looks like we are in for some Farmers Market demos and more chances to bring folks into our sport of choice... dancing!! Latest from the Marketing Team The Marketing Committee met during the holidays and has begun working on promotion and advertising for the new dancer class which starts Wednesday, March 6, 2019. The class will run 15 weeks and finish Wednesday, June 12, 2019, with a Mainstream Graduation dance. This year s class will have class coordinators who will be responsible for the behind the scenes duties and ensure the class runs smoothly. Talk to Rich Hendrickson if you re interested in helping out as a class coordinator. We will also be looking for class angels as well. We are awaiting approval from the SLO Farmers Market so we can hold demonstration dances at the Thursday night Downtown Farmers Market. Tentatively the demos will be one Thursday night in January and one in February in downtown SLO from 6pm to 8pm. Once we re approved we will put out the dates and sign-up sheets for dancers. Soon we will be setting up a Facebook event for the new dancer class that you ll be able to invite your friends to. The Facebook event will promote the class and have all the details about the class, including the day, location, and times. We will also be promoting the new dancer class on Instagram. So be sure you ve liked our Facebook page, facebook.com/squaredancecentralcoast, and our Instagram account, instagram.com/squaredancecentralcoast. You can also find links to our Facebook and Instagram accounts on our website, squaredancecentralcoast.com. Please continue to pass out the square dance business cards to interested people. If you need more cards, please ask for the Marketing Committee members or email the committee at squaredancecentralcoast@gmail.com. Some Paso Squares History Do You Remember? Last year s Dec 13 th Christmas dance, preceded by a potluck, was an enjoyable evening of dining and dancing at the Paso Robles Guild Hall. Jay Henderson called the tips. Historic club banners were recently discovered in the old hall. They were displayed on the walls during the December dance. One was an old banners used for club banner raids. As the CCSDA bylaws read 4-B. Banners may be claimed at any club dance. 4-C. The first club with a full square in attendance advises the host club that they lay claim to a banner. 4-D. One square is required per banner. 4-E. First come, first served. The travelling club square could retrieve a surrendered banner in the same way. With many clubs in the CCSDA, this encouraged wide ranging inter-club attendance. See accompanying picture. CCSDA Page 3 Workshop on How to Use Facebook by Darren Gallina The Marketing Committee wants to ensure that all local dancers on Facebook are connected to the CCSDA s Facebook page, squaredancecentralcoast. If you are unsure whether or not you re connected to our Facebook page, plan on attending our Facebook Workshop at the dance, Sunday, January 13, 2019. We will have a couple of Facebook guru s there to work with you one-on-one to make sure you re connected and also answer any BASIC Facebook questions you might have. Please bring the following items: Your Facebook username and password Your mobile device smart phone or tablet or laptop that you usually use to access Facebook. If you use a desktop computer, we will have a laptop available for you to use. Again, these will be one-on-one sessions that shouldn t last more than 10 or 15 minutes. So you won t miss much dancing. We want everyone connected to squaredancecentralcoast to help promote the new class and other local square dance events.
