The students have been learning about the process archaeologists use to excavate artefacts, to form conclusions about how people lived in the past. Archaeologists from Archae-Aus brought samples from their own excavations in Perth for the students to uncover using the techniques required to carefully extract the artefacts. The range of artefacts found in different layers (strata) of their dig gave students an idea of differences in how Indigenous Australians lived prior to European settlement. All the students now have the task of using their findings to write a report with their conclusions about how different groups of people lived in Perth in the past. Miss Kylie Malam Head of Performing Arts Aladdin On the 8 th August, the Year 11 and 12 ATAR Music, Dance and Drama students had the privilege of attending Disney s breath-taking Aladdin at the Crown Theatre, Perth. The production catered for all including an Australian reference by humorously incorporating the trademark of Vegemite into the beginning of the performance. The students attending the performance described the set design as highly-technical, with well-rehearsed and seamless transitions, particularly the magic carpet, which was spectacular, and the music. The fusion of musical styles created a fascination through the audience. Composer, Alan Menken, who wrote the music for the original film did a wonderful job. The dance routines were well choreographed, highly-skilful and vibrant, engaging us with every flip, turn and clap. The actors captured the essence of each character very well, the Genie s witty and humorous lines had us begging for more. Overall, Disney s Aladdin was truly magical, creating a spontaneous illusion which had us on the edge of our seats. We walked away speechless.
