What is a Mbility Management Plan? A wrkplace Mbility Management Plan is a lng-term management strategy emplyed by an rganisatin that seeks t prmte and deliver sustainable transprt bjectives thrugh psitive actin and is articulated in a dcument that is regularly reviewed and acted n. Many actins are lw cst with effective Mbility Management Plans reducing car use by up t 18% resulting in cst and time saving fr rganisatins and emplyees (Natinal Transprt Authrity, Step by Step Guide t Travel Plans, 2011). Why d we need a Mbility Management Plan? The Sandyfrd Business District cnsists f six areas, the Sandyfrd Business Estate, the Stillrgan Business Estate, Central Park, Suth Cunty Business Park, Leginaries f Christ and Lepardstwn Park Hspital. The area has grwn cnsiderably in the last 10 years and nw cnsists f a mixture f land uses including ffices, residential, retail and light industrial. It is als recgnised as a centre fr high-tech innvative industries. Significant mixed use develpment is planned ver the medium t lnger term that will generate cnsiderable additinal traffic t the area, as utlined in the Sandyfrd Urban Framewrk Plan 2011-2016. Dún Laghaire-Rathdwn Cunty Cuncil needs practical n-ging slutins t prevent the inevitable traffic cngestin and assciated prblems that will ccur if we fail t manage traffic entering and exiting the Sandyfrd Business District. An Area Wide Mbility Management Plan is seen as a key part f the slutin that will help t retain the area s cntinuing vitality and viability as yur place f wrk, imprve yur jurney t and frm wrk and psitively respnd t Gvernment transprt plicies. This dcument summarises the key elements f the Area Wide Mbility Management Plan. It will play a part in ensuring the cntinuing success f the Sandyfrd Business District. Sme f the Business District ccupiers already have their wn Mbility Management Plan. This Plan is intended t cmplement individual Business District ccupiers Mbility Management Plans. The Area Wide Mbility Management Plan is nt anti-car. It s abut making peple think abut whether the alternatives t travel t wrk are realistic and usable and pssibly trying them nw and again, fr at least sme jurneys every week. The main findings frm the 2011 Traffic Cunt survey during mrning peak hurs (7am t 10am) were as fllws: 60% f peple drive t the area in single ccupancy vehicles with 14% car sharing. 19% use public transprt t access the 2

4% f peple walk t the 3% f peple cycle t the area (2% pedal cycle and 1% mtr cycle). The average car ccupancy is 1.25. Difficulties arise fr pedestrians and cyclists crssing the main junctins and main rads in the The availability f car parking and the clseness f the area t the M50 make it easy t drive t the In the Sandyfrd Land Use Transprtatin Study 2006, the fllwing findings were bserved: 10% f all trips t the area are less than 2km, 20% f trips are less than 5km and almst 60% are less than 10km. 75% f thse driving did nt need their car fr wrk trips during the day. What are the key bjectives? Based n the travel survey findings, three key bjectives have been set: T reduce the number f single ccupancy cars accessing the Sandyfrd Business District T increase the number f businesses in the area develping Mbility Management Plans T prvide emplyees with up t date infrmatin n the facilities / services available t them t allw them t make infrmed travel chices Hw are we ging t deliver? Lng-term prpsals have been utlined in the Mbility Management Plan and Sandyfrd Urban Framewrk Plan fr all travel mdes. These include the fllwing: Walking T prmte walking we will d the fllwing: Imprve facilities fr pedestrians at junctins and acrss main rutes.
