COUNCIL CORNER 12 As we enter a busy time of year with preparations for 4-H events and Fairweek, the members of the Ingham County 4-H Council wish you a pleasant holiday weekend, with time to honor members of the U.S. military who have died in their service to the country. 4-H has a long history that intertwines with U.S. Servicemen and women over the past seven decades. When World War II began, 4-H clubs participated in Victory Garden, Food for Victory and Feed-A-Fighter programs, including competitions for 4-H Youth to raise the most food supplies as possible. War bonds and trips were often given as prizes. Feed-A-Fighter asked citizens to feed one serviceman for one year: a feat that meant raising 16 lambs, one milk cow, harvesting 110 bushels of tomatoes and canning 400 quarts of vegetables. Guess what? 4-H stepped up, and the winning 4-H member raised enough food to feed 34 servicemen, and he won a trip to Fort Bragg! Never underestimate the power of 4-H! As we head into June, the Council's Fair Committee is planning our new Council Informational Display for Fair week. We are working with the Fair folks to create a "4-H Welcome Center" in the Booth barn that includes our display, and craft "creation stations." Our mission is to welcome visitors to the world of 4-H, answer questions about scholarships and events and offer a fun place to learn more about the Council and how to be a successful 4-H member. We are also planning a Council Bulletin Board to be located near the Food Booth. We have thousands of visitors at the Food Booth each fair week, so it's a great way to advertise what we have to offer as far as program support and scholarships. If you have great ideas and want to help the Council spread the word this summer, please get in touch with me below. Until next week, have a great one! Harmony Gmazel, President. Contact: h_gmazel@yahoo.com (Holly Whitaker, VP; Stacey Bliesener, Secretary; Mary Holmer & Debbie Miller, Co-Treasurers; Suzie Cantwell, Parliamentarian)

13 4-H CLUB CORNER However, due to the fact that we will not have access to download entries from the Showorks site we cannot accept online entries for the 2017 season. Here is the process that we will be following to ensure that none of the exhibitors (or the livestock sale) is affected: 1. Club leaders will need to collect the paper entry forms and payment from each exhibitor and bring them to the fair office by June 6, 2017. a. The entry form will be for all 4H/FFA/Open Class exhibitors please be sure to identify on the right-hand column the club affiliation or open class status. Access the 2017 fair entry form and entry fee sheet at: http://fb.ingham.org/joinusatthefair/2017fairpremiumbookentryinformation.aspx b. The exhibitors will need to pay for ride wristbands and extra passes in their payment to the clubs, however those ride wristbands will be mailed directly to the exhibitors home. 2. The Fair Office will hard enter all paper entry forms into the Showorks (non-web version) data base in our office. **Note: Anyone that has already placed an entry on the online Showorks will need to complete the paper entry form. Also, please note that your information cannot be retrieved and the Showorks portal has been disabled. Below are a few clarifications to assist with fair entries. - Your club will not need animal count sheets. We will use the number from the fair entries exhibitor fee sheet. - 4-H leader daily/weekly passes will be issued by the 4-H Office. Only those who are currently enrolled in www.4honline.com and completed the VSP process will be issued passes. Please verify all your leaders are reenrolled in your club for the 2016-2017 year. Don t forget to sign your club up for: Booth Watch Sign-Up link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/17bvm-tdccwcme0nu82ccj34htkaix7jr- 8LrZNStXHM/edit?usp=sharing Booth Space Request link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1b0ys-fpw05jnsa-w9u- _a7youb6ruyppxqrtqfcjaga/edit?usp=sharing The information that you type into the documents will save automatically. To check this, you can exit out of the page and then click the link again to verify that your information did, indeed, save and is still there. Smaller clubs are welcome to share a time slot. We hope to have the Food Booth link active soon.
