Ladies and Gentleman Club PRESIDENTS Pictured on Captain v President Match NOTTINGHAM INDOOR BOWLS CLUB Time for our January newsletter, my wife has gone off to the centre to bowl and enjoy herself and I have been left at home to write this newsletter while watching World Bowls on the T.V with a mug of coffee and biscuits, if I had realised life was going to be this demanding in retirement I would have carried on working. Hey Ho onwards and upwards. CHAIRMANS CORNER I hope you all had a good Christmas and I wish you a happy New Year. The Christmas dinners seem to be well supported again this year with one or two large gatherings. The latest one being served on the 17 th January As most of you will be aware we had a serious heating failure on January the 12th when the Heat Exchanger ruptured. This happened during a cold and wet spell of weather dropping the temperature in the centre down into single figures. This resulted in a large number of league cancellations with normal playing not re-starting until Monday night. We intend to re-schedule the lost games as soon as practicable within the winter time frame, before the Nationals. I know that I can rely on you to co-operate with Julie to achieve this. The repairs to the heating system are only a temporary solution which may last ten days or ten years but to ensure that we have a reliable, effective system we have ordered a replacement Heat Exchanger which we will fit immediately, keeping the old one just in case there is a future need. Finally my thanks to Julie and her staff for managing the emergency in the cold. To Dave Bramley and the catering staff for providing several hundred Christmas dinners. Ern Wray

We continue to play with 70 players in 10 teams and using the full 8 rinks. Last season with 8 teams the results ebbed and flowed each week with all teams beating others which was a very open and interesting situation. Looking at the results this season the situation is very much the same with Early Birds and Skip Brian Clements setting the pace (26 points from 16 matches played) I have been the coordinator of the Saturday league for 2 years and have now decided for personal reasons to step down. Now is the time to make this decision because it provides a new person with the time to start to make provision/liaise with current Team Captains and players. I have prepared a document which sets out the role of the coordinator for the 2017/2018 season. The good news is that Paul Fowler has agreed to take on the position of the Saturday Coordinator and I would like to wish him all the best for next season. For your future reference Paul's Telephone Number is 0115 9224243. Enjoy the rest of the bowls season. Phil Morley Saturday Coordinator
On behalf of the NIBC Committee and players we would like to thank Phil Morley for the work and enthusiasm that he has put in on the Saturday league, the league has certainly proved to be popular with a large increase in playing numbers. Thank you to all those that turned up to play on Ladies Gala Day and to the men players that made up the teams, this event is played for the Kath Dewitt Trophy, once again it was good to see Russell who came along to present the trophy, the day was a success and we hope next year we can make it even more successful with more players involved. Ladies Gala Day Winners of the Kath Dewitt Trophy Sheila Moir Eric Hurst Russell Presented the Trophy Jackie Dunnicliffe Presidents and Captains day another good day with plenty of banter around the rinks and the days matches played in a good spirit, the picture on this months header page one shows our Ladies and Mens President in good humour on the day. Next came Bernie s Christmas Fun Night, here are a few photos from all the events.
I will put some on the notice board if anyone would like a copy of any please e mail myself, they can be printed in individual photos as well as collages. Joke of the month. We hope some of our new players will look to be joining in future events they would certainly be most welcome, you would find the events friendly, competitive but relaxed atmosphere to play in. The wife has been missing a week now. Police said to prepare for the worst. So I went to the Oxfam shop to get all her clothes back. A mate of mine recently admitted to being addicted to brake fluid. When I quizzed him about it he reckoned he could stop any time. E.I.B.A NATIONAL FINALS ( Help Required ) April 7th - 16th This above item is a little in advance. Julie White and the committee will soon be planning the running of the centre for this tournament and will be looking for help with marking the scoreboards and help with keeping the centre tidy during the event, if you feel you can help out please leave your name and telephone number at the reception. Any help would be most appreciated. We will run this ad again in March issue. On a sad note Ron Cutts passed away in January aged 97. Ron was one of the many characters of the NIBC, Ron joined the club in 1986 and was the Club President in the 2011/2012 season and the Saturday Captain for the weekend friendly matches. This is probably a good time to remember the bowling friends we have lost in the last few years.
