St Finn Barr s Catholic School Parent Newsletter Monday 18th September, 2017 Safe Respectful Resilient Learners Be a Living God Moment Jesus Today I Offer You My Work, Play, Joys, Laughs And Disappointments. Amen Terms 2017 Term 3-24th July - 29th September Term 4-17th October - 21st December Student Free Day 2017 - Monday 16th October

Welcome to Week 9 Recently, our school has received fantastic news. Our application to have our Carpark Project has been approved. This means that our back carpark will be redeveloped to allow safer drop off and pick up, more easily accessible parking and a more efficient flow of traffic. This is great news for our community. A huge thanks to the School Board and Mr Anthony Healey who have worked on this project over recent years. The TCEO will be running this project which we hope will be close to completion for the beginning of the 2018 School year. We are extremely excited about this project. Last week, we had a new phone system installed after a very lengthy period of the phone system not operating effectively. Please be patient with us as we learn this new system and get it running correctly over the next few days. Our Grade 3-6 Athletics Carnival is rapidly approaching, (Wednesday 27th September from 9:30-2:30). Students will be bused from school and will return to school for normal pick up. All students are required to remain at the Carnival for the whole day. If you are taking your student home at the end of the day, please speak with their teacher. If students have a plain coloured House T Shirt they may wear it on this day. Our Kindergarten - Grade 2 students will be having their Carnival later in November. Please if you are able to help, contact Anthony Hielscher ( anthony.hielscher@catholic.tas.edu.au or through the office). As you would be aware running these carnivals requires many hands. We look forward to this day which is a fantastic way to celebrate and engage as a community. A thank you to all families for your continued support around our school, especially to our very small group of P and F who are working really hard to bring an exciting community event in the Fair on Friday October 27th at 5:00pm. We really look forward to seeing everybody there for a fun and relaxing evening. Have a great week, Liz

Staff Profile Name: Mrs Hayley Clayton Position: Classroom teacher of 3/4 Clayton; Team Leader 3/4 Team. Likes: Boxing and football, keeping fit and healthy, cockatiels (especially my Buddy), building 3D puzzles Dislikes: Things being messy and disorganised, being in confined spaces. Mrs Clayton also loves being involved and organising the Primary Schools Basketball Tournament, which is coming up after the holidays. Spare Uniforms As we have a shortage of spare clothes available at the office and limited sizes, can we please ask parents/carers with children in early years to make sure their children always have a spare set of school clothes in their bags. If your child comes home in any of the spare clothes provided by the school, please wash the articles and return them as soon as possible. Any donations of old uniforms for our spares cupboard would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Our SFB Sun Smart Policy says we should be wearing hats from the beginning of September to the end of April. This means, we should be in hats now. Please make an effort to help you child search out their hats over the next few days and have them ready to wear for play times. Summer is coming!!! Summer Uniform returns for ALL students at the beginning of Term 4 - Tuesday October 16th. The Clothing Store is open as usual this Thursday 21st and next Thursday 28th 8:30-9:30 and 2:30-3:30. P & F NEWS SCHOOL FAIR Help needed We are reaching out to the St Finn Barr s School Community with a couple of requests for the upcoming School Fair. Electrician We are reaching out for an electrician who would be able to help with the School Fair. Do you know of an electrician who would be able to help us with this role? Expressions of Interest 123 Magic & Emotion Coaching for Parents The 123 Magic and Emotion Coaching program is a 3 week parenting program which aims to teach parents and carers how to deal with their children s difficult behaviours. Parents would you like to learn: - how to discipline without arguing, yelling or smacking - how to sort behaviour - how to handle challenging and testing behaviours - to choose your strategy with the three choices - to use emotion coaching to encourage good behaviour What: We are currently seeking expressions of interests from parents/carers who might like to be part of this program here at St Finn Barr s. You would be required to commit to one session each week over the three weeks, which will take 2.5 hours each session. When: Possibly Thursday night 7 9 30pm and/or Friday morning 9 11.30am starting in term 4, week 1-3. Running the 2 sessions would allow for parents who can t make it together, or who might be working to still take advantage of attending the sessions. Whilst we encourage both parents to attend this is not a necessity. However, whether both days will occur will be due to interest and numbers. Please note there is no babysitting available. Cost: Workbooks are provided but cost generously covered by the school. Who: Our pastoral carer Lesley VanderVelde is a certified 123 Magic Emotion Coach and will be taking the sessions. For more information, to express interest please contact the principal Liz Illingworth @ liz.illingworth@catholic.tas.edu.au or Lesley @ Lesley.vandervelde@catholic.tas.edu.au or fill in form and return to school office. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I/We are interested in the 123 Magic & Emotion Coaching program to be run at St Finn Barr s Primary School. Please print name, contact details and circle morning/night preference. Name Day/Night Email:.. Phone:.. Name...Day/Night Email:. Phone: NB dates will not be confirmed until we have received expressions of interest. Return to school office or email Lesley VanderVelde
