FISH BITES The Marlins continue a nine-game, 10-day road trip tonight with the first game of a four-game set against the Milwaukee Brewers. Opened the trip splitting a two-game set at Yankee Stadium before yesterday's off day. The current road trip will wrap up with a trip west to take on the Los Angeles Dodgers for a three-game series from Monday-Wednesday. TUESDAY'S RECAP Miami defeated the Yankees, 9-1 at Yankee Stadium. Jarlin García limited the Yankees to just one hit in 5.0 innings (5 bb, 2 k). Did not allow a hit over his first 4.1 IP. J.T. Realmuto returned from the DL to go 2x4 with two runs scored, one home run and four RBI in his first game of the season. Four Marlins had multi-hit games (also Dietrich, Castro and Telis). TODAY'S TRANSACTION Prior to tonight's game, the Marlins placed LHP Chris O'Grady on the 10-day disabled list (retroactive to 4/17) with a left shoulder strain and recalled Merandy Gonzalez from Double-A Jacksonville. Gonzalez will wear #77 and will be making his Major League debut. Gonzalez made two relief appearances with the Jumbo Shrimp this season (0-1, 4.50 ERA, 10.0 IP, 7 H, 5 ER, 4 BB, 7 K). He was acquired from the Mets on 7/28/17 in exchange for A.J. Ramos. ON THE MEND Dan Straily made his second start on his rehab assignment yesterday for Single-A Jupiter, allowing just one earned run on six hits in 5.0 ip with no walks and five strikeouts in the winning effort vs. Lakeland. LHP Wei-Yin Chen began his rehab assignment on Tuesday with Jupiter, allowing just three hits and one earned run in 2.2 ip (1 bb, 4 k) vs. Lakeland. Martín Prado is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with Jupiter tonight. VS. BREWERS The Marlins went 2-4 vs. the Brewers in 2017, with all six games taking place at Miller Park after Miami's home series from September 15-17 was moved to Milwaukee due to Hurricane Irma. The Marlins are 69-71 all-time vs. the Brewers, 28-33 overall at Miller Park and 31-39 all-time in Milwaukee. GARCÍA'S GRACE Over his first two Major League starts, Jarlin García combined to allow just one hit in 11.0 ip in two starts (vs. Mets, at Yankees). In his first career start, tossed 6.0 no-hit innings April 17 against the Mets at Marlins Park, becoming the only pitcher in Marlins history to go as many as 6.0 innings in his starting debut without allowing a hit (Elias) and the first Major League pitcher to throw 6.0-or-more no-hit innings in his first career start since Ross Stripling of the Dodgers on April 18, 2016 at San Francisco (7.1 ip). In his second start, held the Yankees hitless until a one-out double in the fifth, finishing with 5.0 scoreless innings and just the one hit allowed. Snapped a streak of 38 consecutive batters faced without allowing a hit. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, his 10.0IP streak to begin his career as a starting pitcher ties the Modern Era (since 1900) record (also the St. Louis Browns Bobo Holloman, 10.0IP in May 1953, which included a 9.0-inning no-hitter in his first career start on 5/6/53 vs. Philadelphia. Holloman had made four prior career relief appearances). Additionally according to Elias, Garcia s 10.0-inning hitless streak was tied for the second-longest in Marlins history (Armando Benitez-11.0IP in Aug.-Sept. 2004; Al Leiter-10.0IP in May 1996; Kevin Brown-10.0IP in June '97; and Anibal Sanchez-10.0IP in Sept. '06). Overall this season, is holding hitters to a.091 (6x66) average with a 0.86 ERA (21.0 ip/2 er) in four appearances (two starts). MIGGY RO-LLING Miguel Rojas has hit in each of his last 10 games, matching the longest streak of his career (September 25, 2017-April 1, 2018). Is the longest hitting streak by a Marlins player this season and the longest active streak in the National League. Over his current streak, Rojas is batting.350 (14x40) with a double, two home runs and three RBI. Has posted a.351 average (13x37) in the two spot in the order, the fifth-highest average among two-hole hitters in the Majors, third in the NL behind Christian Yelich (.393), and Asdrúbal Cabrera (.381). His 19 hits as a shortstop are tied for the fifth-most in the Majors, while his.302 average also ranks fifth. Only Atlanta's Dansby Swanson has more hits and a higher average among NL shortstops (24 h,.358 avg.). WELCOME BACK J.T. Realmuto made his season debut in Tuesday's game at Yankee Stadium, going 2x4 with two runs scored, a home run and four RBI. Was reinstated from the 10-day disabled list (low back contusion) prior to the game. Through the first 16 games of the season, Marlins catchers combined to hit.169 (10x59) with no home runs and four RBI. Is a career.318 batter on the road, and owns a.335 road average (190x568) since 2016, marking the third-highest road average in the Majors over the stretch. Only Houston's Jose Altuve (.378; 245x646) and Washington's Daniel Murphy (.337; 187x555) have better road averages in that span. MINOR MATTERS Single-A Jupiter's Joe Dunand on Monday was named Florida State League's Player of the Week for April 5-15. Dunand, selected in the 2nd round of the 2017 draft, hit.372 (16x43) with three doubles, one triple, two home runs, 12 runs scored and 13 RBI in 10 games. He currently leads the FSL in runs (14) and RBI (16), and ranks second in hits (18) and total bases (30). Also on Monday, Double-A Jacksonville's Jeff Brigham was named the Southern League's Pitcher of the Week for April 5-15. In two starts, went 2-0 and tossed 10.0 scoreless innings with six hits allowed and 18 strikeouts and just two walks. Brigham, originally drafted by the Dodgers in 2014 (fourth round), was acquired by Miami on July 30, 2015 with Victor Araujo and Kevin Guzman in a deal that sent Mat Latos and Michael Morse to Los Angeles. BOUR-ING IT ON Over his first 10 games, Justin Bour was batting just.162 (6x37) with a double and two RBI. Since April 10 (seven games), he is 8x23 (.348) with four home runs and nine RBI, hitting safely in each of his last five contests. Four of his last eight hits have left the yard.
