FISH BITES The Marlins continue this three-game set with the Giants tonight at 10:05 p.m. EDT. A win would snap a streak of 10 consecutive road series without a series win, tied for the fourth-longest skid in team history, according to Stats LLC. Lefthanded pitcher Chris O'Grady will make his Major League debut for the Fish tonight. San Francisco will counter with right-hander Jeff Samardzija (4-9, 4.54), who is 5-1 with a 3.43 ERA in 17 career appearances (eight starts) against the Marlins. Miami is 4-4 on this 10-game, three-city road trip that began in Milwaukee (1-2), passed through St. Louis (2-2), and wraps up here in San Francisco (1-0), taking Miami into the All-Star break. LAST NIGHT AT SAN FRANCISCO The Marlins got out to a fast start and never looked back in a 6-1 win over the Giants. Dee Gordon led of the game with a single and scored three pitches later when Giancarlo Stanton hit his 24th homer of the season. After two straight outs, Justin Bour, Martín Prado, J.T. Realmuto, and JT Riddle all singled to center field, the last driving in two runs for a 4-0 advantage. Bour added an RBI-single in the second, and Realmuto a solo homer in the fifth, to round out Miami's scoring. Dan Straily tossed a career-best 8.1 innings and allowed just four hits in picking up his seventh win. VS. THE GIANTS This series has been close over the last two seasons, with Miami holding an 8-6 advantage since the start of 2015. Since the start of 2013, only once has one of the clubs won three-straight games: Miami did so from June 30-July 2 in a sweep at Marlins Park. The Giants lead the all-time series, 105-77, with a 55-38 lead by the Bay (30-27 at AT&T Park). However, since 2011, Miami has a 15-7 record (.682) at AT&T Park. According to Stats LLC, only Pittsburgh (13-6/.684) has a better record in San Fran among NL teams in that time. O'GRADY MAKES HIS DEBUT Left-hander Chris O'Grady, who had his contract selected from Triple-A New Orleans yesterday, will start for Miami tonight, making his Major League debut. He is 3-5 with a 3.29 ERA (54.2 ip/20 er) in 12 appearances (nine starts) for NOLA this season. That includes a 2-5 record and 2.91 ERA (46.1/15) in nine starts since joining the Baby Cakes' rotation on May 17. According to Stats LLC, he will become the 14th southpaw in Club history to make his MLB debut with a start, the first since Justin Nicolino on June 20, 2015 at Cincinnati. Also from Stats LLC, Miami is 15-20 all-time when its starting pitcher is making his Major League debut, 5-8 when it is a left-hander. SAN FRANCISCO TREAT Dan Straily tossed a gem against the Giants last night, setting a career high with 8.1 innings pitched in picking up his seventh victory of the season. Straily allowed just four hits, did not walk a batter, and struck out four. He allowed just one run, on a solo home run to Denard Span, the final batter he faced. From the second out of the second inning until there were two outs in the seventh, he set a new career high by retiring 16 consecutive batters, according to Stats LLC. It surpassed his previous high of 14, which he set just this season over two starts (April 22-29). Straily is now 6-1 with a 2.74 ERA over his last 12 starts, with just 1.49 bb/9 and 1.12 h/9. Since that run began on May 9, his ERA ranks sixth among NL starters (min. 11 GS), his winning percentage (.857) is tied with Stephen Strasburg (6-1) for third, behind Clayton Kershaw (8-0) and Mike Foltynewicz (.875/7-1), his bb/9 is second to Jeff Samardzija (0.38), and his h/9 is ninth. FOREIGN DIGNITARY Ichiro Suzuki picked up two hits on Sunday in St. Louis, the 3,053rd and 3,054th of his Major League career. The hits tied and surpassed Rod Carew (Gatun, Panama Canal Zone) on the all-time MLB hits list, giving Suzuki (Kasugai, Japan) sole possession of 24th place overall, but also making him the all-time hits leader among players born outside of the United States. There is more climbing to do for Suzuki, however, as he is now just one hit from tying Rickey Henderson (3,055) for 23rd place, and is only six behind Craig Biggio (3,060) for 22nd. 30-FOR-30-FOR-30 Dee Gordon stole two bases in St. Louis on Sunday, giving him 31 on the year. He has reached the 30 steal plateau in all three of his seasons with Miami. Only Luis Castillo (1999-2002), Hanley Ramírez (2006-08, '10), and Juan PIerre (2003-05) had stolen 30 in three-or-more seasons for the Fish prior to Gordon. His next steal will be the 250th of his career. FIRST HALF DINGERS Giancarlo Stanton hit his 24th home run last night, while Marcell Ozuna hit his 23rd on Wednesday night in St. Louis. They are the third pair of teammates in Marlins' history to have 20 home runs before the break, joining Miguel Cabrera (20) & Mike Lowell (20) in 2004 and Hanley Ramírez (23) and Dan Uggla (23) in 2008. Stanton is four home runs behind the club record for a first half, held by Mike Lowell (28) in 2003. Miami as a team has hit 100 home runs so far this season, tied with 2007 for third-most in club history for the first half of a campaign. This year's squad won't be catching the all-time leader - the 2008 club that belted 135 before the break - but it does have a slim chance of moving into the top-two. See the chart at right for a full list of the club's all-time leaders in first-half home runs, by team and individual. TRIPLE THREAT Giancarlo Stanton (24), Marcell Ozuna (23), and Justin Bour (19) have combined for 66 home runs, the second-highest output by a trio of teammates in the Majors this season, behind Cincinnati's Joey Votto (25), Scott Schebler (22), and Adam Duvall (20), with 67. The third highest is 62, by Oakland's Khris Davis (24), Yonder Alonso (19), and Ryon Healy (19). HOME FOR THE ALL-STAR BREAK MIAMI MARLINS (39-46) LHP CHRIS O'GRADY (MLB DEBUT) at SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS (34-54) RHP JEFF SAMARDZIJA (4-9, 4.54) AT&T PARK, SAN FRANCISCO, CA SATURDAY, JULY 8, 2017 10:05 P.M. EDT GAME 86 (39-46) ROAD GAME 44 (18-25) TONIGHT'S BROADCASTS FSFL WINZ (940 AM) WAQI (710 AM) Miami is sending two outfielders home to Marlins Park for the All-Star Game next week, as it was announced on Sunday that Marcell Ozuna was voted in by the fans to start for the National League squad, while Giancarlo Stanton was voted in as a reserve by the players. Ozuna is the fifth Marlins' player (seventh time) to be selected to start the All-Star Game, joining Gary Sheffield (1993), Hanley Ramírez (2008-10), Stanton (2015, DNP), and Dee Gordon (2015, DNP). Miami has had four players (six times) go on to start the game: Sheffield (1993), Ramírez (2008-10), Stanton (2014), and Ozuna (2016). Stanton has now been named an All-Star four times in his career, (2012, 2014-15, 2017) tying Miguel Cabrera (2004-07) for the most selections in Club history. - Stats LLC UPCOMING STARTERS MARLINS VS.
