Under the sea is all about what we can find in the ocean. Inspired by the film the Li:le Mermaid and a Sharks Tale Suggested song list All songs can be purchased from Itunes and these are only s, not essen8al. Under the sea The Li>le Mermaid Aw coconuts Jake and the Neverland Pirates Henry the crab - Kidzone Car Wash A sharks tale Jellyfish forest Finding Nemo I m so excited The Pointer sisters

Learning Inten8on Warm up and mobilisaaon. Warm up games Exercise 1 Using the visual aids spread them out around the room. Get the children to swim around the space and when you call out a sea creature they have to move to that image. Under the sea The li:le mermaid n/a To add onto this you could also have numbers on a piece of paper next to the picture. You can call out the creature and an acaon. For example, octopus, jump and 3 which means they have to find the octopus, when they get there they have to jump 3 Ames. You could do star jumps, frog jumps etc (anything to increase their heart rate). Exercise 2 Island hopping Lay some large hoops out on the floor (ideally 2 of each colour depending on the size). Aw coconuts - Jake and the neverland pirates Hoops Tell the children the hoops are the islands and they have to swim around them. Depending on their age I will shout the sharks are coming (you can replace with fish/crabs/whatever you feel Is appropriate). The children have to jump into a hoop which means they re safe on the island. AdaptaAon when you say the sharks are coming you can say.. girls to the red islands and boys to the blue islands. Mix it up for the next level up.

Moving in different ways, team work Crab Relay Put some cones at one end of the room and get the children to line up in equal lines behind them. Henry the crab, Kidzone Cones The children need to move like a crab to the other end of the hall (where there will be some more cones). See image below. On the way back they can run or scurry back because it will be too much on their arms to go back again. Fish Food Divide children into 3 teams for relays. Place obstacle such as hurdles to step over or hoops to go through along the way. I m so excited The pointer sisters. Beanbags Children must pick up appropriate colour of fish food (beanbags) for their team. First team with all food collected is the winner. Vary the types of obstacles. AdaptaAon - Children could act out different types of sea creatures, like those in warm up acavity.

Gross motor skills Balloon/ball work Crab football Revisit the crab posiaon and throw some balloons into the centre. For older children they can try and kick the balloon to a partner or get the balloon from one end of the room to the other. For younger children they can try and kick the balloon with their foot and a helper/ parent try and catch. Any upbeat pop song. Balloons / balls Bubble catch Get the children into pairs or small groups. Their task is to throw the bubble (balloon or ball) to the next person. To make this harder, one child can throw the bubble and the other child can bat it back (with their hand). Beach ball/balloon relay Again using the balloons or balls get the children to stand side by side with the object in between them. It s their mission to move from one side of the room to the other without dropping it. Bubble obstacle Using the balloons or balls set up an obstacle for the children to move their objects around. For example. through hoops kick through the hoop, cones in and out of cones, jump over skipping ropes/ribbons on the floor (by pu`ng the object in between their legs/ ankles).

Animals that live under the sea: Dolphin: Dolphins jump up out of the water and dive back in. PracAce dive rolls / log rolls / forward rolls over a mat. If this isn t appropriate the children can jump up tall, then dive down to touch the floor with their hands. Jellyfish: Split half of the group one half are jelly fish and one half are swimmers. The swimmers are playing in the sea, jumping, splashing to the music. When the music stops the swimmers have to freeze so the jelly fish can swim by without sanging them. You could use under the sea for these exercises so you don t have to purchase any addiaonal music Jellyfish forest Finding Nemo Octopus: Hand everyone a ribbon or scarf (to give them an extra leg). Try drawing a circle with your ribbon. Can your ribbon fly behind you when you run? Can you toss and catch? Can you spin with your ribbon? Puffer fish: You hold a balloon (not inflated), poinang out that it is pre:y small with no air in it. Ask the children to see if they can make a Any shape with their body like the balloon? Start to blow the balloon so the children can see it ge`ng bigger and bigger. Encourage them to grow (the same as the balloon) to a super stretched out posiaon. Next let go of the balloon and show how crazy it goes. Get the children to use their bodies in the same way, spinning, jumping, flying moves.

The Sail Fish: A sail fish loves to jump up out of the water and fly before diving back down. Tell the children they re going to go flying over cones/mats/spots. PracAce leaping, star jumps, tuck jumps, etc. as they fly around the room. Turtles: Turtles on land are pre:y slow, but sea turtles are fast! Try walking (skipping, galloping, kicking, etc.) as slow as you can and then as fast as you can. You could also split the room in two.. Put a line down the middle and one secaon you are slow turtles and then when you pass the line you re fast turtles. Seahorses: Get the children to gallop around the room like normal horses. Sharks: Get the sharks to move around the space with their hands above their head to resemble a fin. AdaptaAon As above but when you say catch the sharks have to pair up in groups of a certain number (e.g 2 s, 3 s, 4 s etc). Once they re in their group they sit down so you can see who the winning group are. Clown fish: Fish swim in schools to protect themselves so this is the inspiraaon for this acavity. The children can swim around the space but when you call out a keyword like swim they all need to get into a long line, hands on shoulders of the child in front. You can do a boy line and a girl line if you have lots of children.

Team work, agility Older children only Fishy Fishy Cross My Ocean No music N/a Select two pupils to be sharks get them to stand at one end of the area. Everyone else are fish they should be at the other end of the room. When the two sharks call out fishy fishy cross my ocean all the fish have to run to the other end. If a fish is tagged, they must stand sall on the spot and become seaweed the seaweed can catch other fish, but they can only do this from where they are standing, as they are fixed to the ocean floor. The game ends when everyone has been turned into seaweed. Concentra8on Coral snatch No music Scarves Get the children to stand opposite one another and place a piece of coral (a scarf) in between them. They will need to take the same amount of steps away from the scarf as one another. Call out a body part and they have to touch it (on their body) e.g head (touch head), toes (touch toes), when you say snatch the children have to try and snatch the scarf. Whoever gets the scarf is the winner. Repeat as many Ames as you wish.

Car wash (dance) Give each child a scarf / sponge / cloth whatever your preference. Car wash a shark s tale Scarves / clothes / sponges Get the children to find their own space, when the music starts they have to pretend to wash a car. Washing the wheels, the roof, the windows etc. Get the children to use different levels. Aier this, get the children to place their prop on the floor (it doesn t have to be laid out nicely) and they can walk around it clapping theirs hands. Depending on their age you can also get them to jump over it a few Ames. Get the children to pick up their prop and pop it in the centre of the room, making a group circle around the props in the middle. The children can walk around in the circle one way and then the other, you can also get them to walk in and out (all sall holding hands). One at a Ame get the children to collect their prop from the middle and find a space. Once they re in the space they go back to washing their car. Once all of the children are back washing their cars they can throw and catch their prop (depending on age), or pass the prop around their back, in between their legs, over and under their legs, from one hand to the other. And finish with a pose!
