Questions call Marianne Huelsmann 239 254-0983 EL COMER Y EL RASCAR, TODO ES EMPEZAR Isn t that a beautifully balanced proverb? Saying it out loud, kind of makes the ears ping. You might find it a bit crude or too earthy, but it tells us that STARTING or beginning a project is superimportant.and therefore...to wit. To eat and to scratch, the main thing is to START. We ve already had our first Spanishlanguage classes, but this is an open invitation to join us at our four December-on-Friday get togethers; the 26th is overshadowed by Christmas Day. So if you re going to EAT (you might not need to scratch ), we ll be in the Conference Room at 9:00 and 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 5th. You might find out that SPANISH is comfortably digested and great for a Bilingualist or even a Trilingualist such as you.! PROVECHO! Call 592-6383 for further info. HEALTH, WELLNESS AND FITNESS FOR FEELING FINE BILL Mottice If you read last months column you know that the Harvard Medical School states that exercise is not only a medicine but in many cases it is the best medicine for treatment or prevention. The prescription is one a day 4 to 5 days a week for life. Cost, a little time. Results, possible enjoyable longevity. Lets start or continue with moving longer, harder, and faster than normal and getting our heart rate up for a minimal 20 minutes but ideally for 30 minutes. Information on this is in the fitness center for checking your minimum and maximum heart rate or take 220 minus your age that =100% now multiply that number by 65% and 85%. This is the key element to fitness and better health. Next, there are seven basic movements that will strengthen the whole body. 1 Push away from an object. 2. Pull moving an object closer to you. 3.Twist which is a core or abdominal movement. 4. Dipping the hips but keeping the back straight. 5.Squats, partial or deep knee bends, keeping the back straight. 6. Lunges, stepping one foot forward and dipping then alternating legs. 7. stepping up on a platform, squat or bend using only one leg. Sounds complicated, but just think about it and then do those with which you are comfortable. Most of all move your body in these directions and then come to the fitness center and you can push, pull, twist, bend, squat, lunge, and dip on one leg. Also watch the TV show the Biggest Loser on Thursday night at 8:00P.M. It will encourage you to do better. One last exercise that you can do anywhere and at any time, is called a Stomach Vacuum and works the transverse abdominals. They are under your abs and act as a core stabilizer. Simply blow out all the air you can and pull your abs. in as close to your spine as possible. Hold as long as possible while taking short breaths while trying to maintain the sucked in position as long as possible. Repeat often. Remember it is very easy to do too little but very hard to do too much. So watch the sugar and salt intake during the holidays and start the New Year in full motion. And MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL.

The Bay Forest Book Group CHESS ANYONE?? I The Book Group does not meet in December. Our next meeting will be on January 12 at 2:00 pm. We will be reading The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd. If you will be using weights, it is necessary to have a signed release form from your doctor. Osteoporosis is a serious medical condition which is estimated to cause 1.5 million fractures annually in the US. Good nutrition coupled with exercise can significantly improve muscle strength, bone density and balance. Our program focuses on specific movements to improve balance and to exercise our muscles that help bring blood to the bones to improve them. Our volunteer staff of Collier County RSVP program are certified class leaders. The exercises are simple and gentle and in addition to helping our bones they improve our flexi- Court 4 has seen a lot of hard work by our Maintenance Department (thank you) and is almost ready for play. Tropic -Topic Movie Night Don t miss out on one of Bay Forest s favorites!!! Movie night starts Friday, January 9th so watch the bulletin boards for all of the details!! Bridge We have recently resurfaced the tennis courts with 4 ton of Har-Tru clay, added a new net on court 4 and will be installing a drinking water fountain also at the end of court 4 soon. At the Bocce courts, we are almost finished lowering the 4 th court. At courts 1, 2 and 3 we removed some old Har-Tru clay and top dressed with around 1 ton of new. We semi leveled these and will work on them until we feel that they are ready for league play in January. The flooring is receiving a fresh coat of paint as well as the sidelines. We decided to paint the floor grey to blend in with the clay after heavy rains and play. A new drinking water fountain is also scheduled to be installed before the leagues start. Some of the benches around the property have deteriorated and will be rebuilt this season by our team. WE would like to say thank you to all the associations that use our in-house handyman services. Although we are limited to certain jobs and if we are unable to do the work we will be happy to assist you with some of the contractors we use.
