Come a little earlier for the ice cream. February 5 - Avatar February 19 The Intern Naples Youth Symphonia March 23, 2016 If you have not seen them before, this remarkable group of 50 musicians ages 7 to 16 years will amaze you with their musical ability. The concert is the 2nd hour of Wednesday night "Sunset Cocktails" on March 23rd. The Pot Luck starts at 5:00 pm and the concert starts at 6:00. No charge for tickets but donations are appreciated for the Symphonia group. Because of all the people involved seating is limited. Up to 4 tickets can be picked up by 1 person. If you have a ticket you are assured a seat. For the past 5 years the concert at Bay Forest has been their only concert away from the Artist-Naples concert hall. This has always been an enjoyable evening at Bay Forest. Tickets will be available starting at "Sunset Cocktails" Wednesday, March 5:00 pm. This year our golf outing will be held on March 24th and will be open to men and women. It will be held at Quail Village Golf Club and you may enter as a foursome or singles. The format will be a scramble. Tee off at Noon and there will be prizes for Best team score, Long Drive and Closest to the Pin. The fee will be $65 and will include a buffet at the end of play (about 4pm) You may participate by calling Gene Von Arx at VOLUNTEERS NEEDED THIS YEAR TO HELP GENE!! Posting of the exact day and how long will be closed for will be posted as soon as we here from the selected contractor. The unusual weather we experienced this past month has put a damper on scheduled projects. To all of you that use the Bay Forest handyman or landscape crew for extra work all requests are on hold at this time. We will reschedule them in the order we received them. 3 Tennis Tidbits By Martin Fallon The Bay Forest Book Group Those of us who can still run and even those who can't are well into the swing of Bay Forest Tennis. The round robins are now using all courts with some extra players waiting a few minutes to be funneled into the mix. We enjoyed our first social event, the longanticipated, Eat Meet and Greet Party on Sunday afternoon, 1/24/2016. Forty-two of the yellow-ball faithful gathered at the clubhouse for gourmet sandwiches, exotic beverages and a surprise dessert. Special thanks go out to Sue Renzi and Sharon Queen for all their creative inspiration, guaranteeing a successful kick-off to our social season. The next party will be on Valentines Day, for those forgetting the date, Sunday, February 14th. We will enjoy a cookout, eating in the clubhouse, immediately after the coed blind-draw tennis matches, beginning at two PM. Players meet and draw numbers to choose doubles teams, getting the chance to get to know folks they may have just met. The matches last about 15 minutes, whereupon the athletes choose more numbers, switching partners, until there are no strangers left about whom to gossip. If everyone became acquainted this way, we would have world peace! Friends, family and guests of the players are encouraged to attend the frolics and feast. The Bay Forest traveling team hosted the first two matches in the Col-lee Just For Fun League, winning the first and narrowly losing the second. Steve Neville has assembled a team he hopes will remain competitive as he tries to include as many members as is possible. John DeRosier fills a critical role, providing after-match, cold libations for the thirsty contestants. The league schedule is on the bulletin board in the tennis chickee hut, the next home match on Wednesday, January 27, at twothirty. Come out and cheer for our valiant warriors. Newcomers are encouraged to sign up for the round robins and private play, remembering to erase their names after their contests and clean the courts. Players must have flat soled tennis shoes, the men wearing shirts with sleeves. Amazingly, these few rules not only insure social decorum, but also preserve the excellent surface that makes Bay Forest Har-Tru clay, second to none. The next meeting of the Bay Forest Book Group will be held on Monday, February 8 th at 2:00 PM in the clubhouse. We will be discussing The Dinner by Herman Koch. In March we will read Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe by Fannie Flag. This will be our book and movie meeting. The meeting will start at 1:00 PM. All are welcome. Any questions call Pat Wood at March Fashion Show and Luncheon Ladies save the date March 15th The Bay Forest Fashion Show and luncheon will be held Tuesday, March 15 at the Bay Forest Clubhouse. Elegant fashions will be from Kay s on the Beach featuring our own Bay Forest ladies as models. We will offer a 3 course lunch, with choice of three entrees, catered by Mai Harkness of Cgrape Catering. Tickets go on sale March 1st at 9 am. $30 per person, checks preferred.

4 Calling All Line Dancers! BOCCE Line dance classes will be offered at the Bay Forest Clubhouse on Wednesdays from 3-4:30 and Fridays from 9-10:30 starting on Wednesday, January 6. Beginner line dancers are welcome as well as experienced line dancers! Line dancing has gained in popularity all over the world. It is great exercise as well as a place to socialize and make new friends. We use all styles of music from country to pop, Broadway, and Latin. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Our draw on the 14 th was well attended and we thank the Jims (Thalls and Hancock), Rico and his crew for grilling, the clean up crew, and of course Ron for all his hard work putting the whole draw together. Play has started and we are all enjoying our new teams and meeting the new players. We hope the weather cooperates and the rains do not interfere too much with play as we would all prefer not to have make up games. Also a little warmth for the 8:45 games would be nice. The new times are working as the 8:45 group is finished by the time the second session is ready to start. Don t forget to mark your calendars for our banquet on March 22 nd ; more details on this will follow CARPE DIEM...because.. TEMPUS FUGIT It sounds a bit more sophisticated to say it in Latin, doesn t it? Seize the day..because. time flies. This language has been around for a long time and is a basic for much of our French, Italian, Spanish, Romanian and Portuguese. So grab a bit of SPANISH if you wish; it now is currently available in the Clubhouse Conference Room at 9:00 on the four Fridays this month. 5 HEALTH, WELLNESS AND FITNESS FOR FEELING FINE by Bill Mottice February is the month for hearts,such as candy ones, card ones, valentine ones, love ones, but most importantly our own. So lets make it HEART SMART MONTH. We are now one month into the new year and some of us have lost our enthusiasm and resolutions to exercise more, eat healthier, sleep better, take our vitamins, and worry less. It happens every year after the holidays so this year lets try to stick to our better judgment and keep on moving for our body and minds sake. Here are some tips to help us keep it up. 1. Set a goal or long term reason for why you want to exercise. For example, "I would like being able to play with the kids or grandchildren" or how about, "I want my wife or husband to be proud of me and the way I look". I personally want to be able to walk to my grand children's graduations. 2. Don't try to do it alone. Find a friend or neighbor or roommate that will join you and you can encourage each other. 3. Invest in yourself. You are more likely to keep it up if you invest your time and money into your program. Remember you are the best investment you can make. 4. Make and keep realistic goals, ones that are achievable. If your goal is weight lost, aim for a lost of 1 lb a week. If you are building muscle start with smaller weights and build up. 5. Try and get other members of your family involved by challenging and encouraging each other no matter if they live close or far apart. It can be fun for the whole family. 6. Switch things around. Don't do the same things over and over. Change machines or the weights or the location. Do different exercises. Above all else, stay positive. Then review what you have been doing and determine, was it too hard or too easy then adjust what needs to be changed and then just as Nike says "Do It". Most of all remember this is HEART SMART MONTH AND THE BEST HEART OF ALL IS YOURS. Keep it well and then give it away to your favorite valentine. Bay Forest Pot-Luck Brunch - 10:30 AM - Saturday March 5 New last year and a big success, so we are doing it again! A Pot Luck Brunch! The food will be as always great, and the price is right free! The men of Bay Forest will run this one, giving the ladies in the Social Committee a break. There will be no charge a 50:50 will be held to pay any expenses. Sign-ups are required at the clubhouse and will begin on February 22 and will end March 3. You can sign up for one of the following, planning on enough for 8-10 people: Egg dishes French toast Potatoes or grits Fruit Pastries or breads Bacon, sausage, or ham Juice, tea, and coffee will be provided. 6 Calling All Bone Builders Social Committee News Did you know through the bone builder exercises you could remove built up minerals and toxins in your joints and muscle tissue. You could encourage new bone growth to replace tired, inflexible bones and at the same time, strengthen the supporting joint muscles and improved your balance. Can this be true? Yes, research from Tuffs University has shown new bone growth happens when muscles move against bones. The exercises are simple, gentle and geared to stimulate you from your eye muscles to finger tips to toes. You will leave glowing with an all over sense of well being and energy. Join our volunteer staff of Collier County Certified Class Leaders, Tuesdays and Thurs at 9:30 am. and 1:30 pm for both days. No charge for Bay Forest residents and renters. If you are new to the class, please pick up forms in the office and fill them out prior to your first class. If you will be using weights, it is necessary to have a signed release from the doctor for insurance purposes. Happy faces, happy feet, and happy tummies pretty well sums up our dinner dance on Jan Bay Forest residents enjoyed another great meal catered by Southern Accents, and danced until the music by Cahlua and Cream stopped. Thank you to all the committee members who worked hard to make the event an evening enjoyed by all. We re off to a busy, fun-filled season and we appreciate all the help and input from everyone. Please join us at our monthly Tuesday morning meeting. Since many of our social committee members are involved with Bone Builders we will begin our brief meetings at 10:45. 7 BAY FOREST ART SHOW Sunday, February 28th 1-4pm It s time again to sip wine, nibble hors d oeuvres and listen to lovely music while we enjoy the talents of Bay Forest artists and crafters at the 22nd Annual Bay Forest Art Show. Just another perfect afternoon at Bay Forest. Painters, photographers, weavers, sculptors, carvers, knitters, whatever your interest all Bay Forest residents and renters are welcome to show their work and/or attend this event. Again this year, there will be a silent auction of artwork, and we welcome donations of other suitable items. As in previous years, we also will collect money for the Guadalupe Center in Immokalee. Thanks to your generosity, we collected over $900 last year. Applications for artists are now available at the office and are due by Friday, February 19th. If you have any questions or would like to help with the show, please contact Gisela at We need helpers to set up tables on Saturday, February 27 at 1pm. Any food items you can provide for the migrants and their families will be greatly appreciated. The following items are also needed for the farm workers camp: Men s long sleeve shirts (sm./med.) Blankets Sheets Pillow (new only) Wash cloths Towels Travel Size Toiletries The above items can be NEW OR GENTLY USED. Toiletries such as shampoo, combs, soap, razors, shaving cream, toothbrushes and toothpaste (any size) are greatly needed. The camp houses families with children as well. This year we are requesting children s books, school supplies and socks. These items will be delivered to the camp by mid-february. If you prefer, checks may be made out to either Guadalupe Community Center (Soup Kitchen on memo line) These funds will be used to purchase food for the soup kitchen. Checks made payable to Christian Brothers will be used for the camp workers and their families. If you are unable to get items to the clubhouse, we will gladly pick them up at your convenience. The Bay Forest family has been so generous to the migrants and their plight in past years.
