3 Tennis Tidbits By Martin Fallon The Bay Forest Book Group January has ushered in an energetic tennis season. Our first social event, the Eat Meet and Greet Party took place on Sunday, January 25. Forty-five of the faithful gathered in the clubhouse for food and conversation, sharing athletic stories some of which bordered on the inspirational. Will St.Cyr entertained the group with a variety of jokes and his take on the state of humor in the 21st Century. Sue Renzi and Sharon Queen were our gracious hosts with excellent assistance by Marie LaLiberte in setting up the party. Before the blush of this event has completely dimmed, our second occasion takes place on Sunday, February 15, at the Clubhouse. We will gather for that cookout, after the blind-draw, mixed doubles which starts at two PM. So, tennis at two, and the meal at four, signup sheets soon to magically appear at the Tennis Tiki Hut. As in previous events, you do not need to play tennis to attend the cookout, but are welcome to come out and witness some spirited competition. Discussions of a complete wheel-chair team were quashed, as our fine, Har-tru surfaces could not take that abuse. Disappointed aspirants were encouraged to continue their rehabs toward full verticality. But the men's 60+ traveling team is off to fine start, losing a close one to Citrus Park but winning the next contest against Grandezza. Sunday mixed-doubles is again filling all available courts, sometimes requiring a 10:30 session. The courts remain available when not sequestered for women's and men's round robins, league play, and the Sunday morning mixed. Come out and take advantage of our wonderful facility. The Bay Forest Book Group meets on the second Monday of the month at 2:00PM. The book for the February meeting on February 9 is The Watch by Joydeep Roy- Bhatacharya. The March book is Emma by Jane Austen. This will be our classic book and movie and the meeting will start at 1:00 PM. Any questions, call Pat Wood at Introduction to Mah Jongg Mah Jongg is scheduled at the club house on Monday and Thursday's from 1-4 PM. All Bay Forest players are welcomed. Mah Jongg lessons will be given in February if we have at least 4 or 5 people interested in learning this ancient Chinese Tile game. We give two instruction periods of about an hour long. Then you will play the game with the newbies for several weeks during the regular MahJongg sessions at the clubhouse. You join the regulars as you learn. The game is always challenging, but fun! Call Jackie at Please leave your name and phone number.

Social Committee Meeting 2/10 Golf Outing 2/12 Ladies Luncheon/Movie 2/17 Art Show 2/22 Pig Roast 2/28 Ladies Luncheon 3/22 Bay Forest has really changed or maybe I should say the people and their interests have changed drastically. It once was a quiet, sedate, drive to the clubhouse community with little active lifestyle. It is now an active, body moving lifestyle place. Everywhere you look people are walking, jogging, biking and swimming. The tennis courts are busier than ever which involve many new people. Bone builders four classes are totally full. Line dancing classes now fill the room and water aerobics classes are, when it is warm enough, full of splashing, yelling exercisers. (Hope you're back Roger, you were missed.) The new fitness center is being well used about 15 to 18 hours a day with more people doing more and greater workouts and using all the equipment. With that thought in mind, we will be getting a new piece of equipment called a Recumbent Elliptical. It combines the two and is great for people who are rehabbing for leg problems. Many physical therapy centers are now using them. It also is great for those who are a little leery of getting on the regular elliptical but would like a greater workout than just the recumbent bike or treadmill. It has become a favorite cardio machine in some fitness centers. If you have not started on a lifesaving exercise program how about joining the hundreds of Bay Foresters that are now enjoying a better way of life and having fun doing it. Lets remember that weight bearing or resistance training combined with some cardio exercise has proven to be the best medicine available for a healthier life. It has been proven to be the key to many things including injury prevention, better balance thus preventing falls, better posture with less back pain. It aids in doing our daily chores and improves those other body functions also. Why it will even improve your golf and tennis game. SO lets get in the swing and get more active. Go to the fitness center and become one of the really active people that are really enjoying the new Bay Forest. See you at the party, the fitness party that is.

6 Calling All Bone Builders Living Trust Seminar Join our class on Tuesday and Thursday at 9:30am We will also have 1pm classes on those days starting January 13 th. There is no charge for Bay Forest residents and renters. If you are new to the class please pick up forms in the office and fill out prior to your first class. If you will be using weights, it is necessary to have a signed release form from your doctor. Osteoporosis is a serious medical condition which is estimated to cause 1.5 million fractures annually in the US. Good nutrition coupled with exercise can significantly improve muscle strength, bone density and balance. Our program focuses on specific movements to improve balance and to exercise our muscles that help bring blood to the bones to improve them. Our volunteer staff of Collier County RSVP program are certified class leaders. The exercises are simple and gentle and in addition to helping our bones they improve our flexibility and balance as we age. AVOID PROBATE EDUCATIONAL PRESENTATION What is a Living Trust? Have you named a Pre-Need Guardian in advance? Do you have a Durable Power of Attorney? Why avoid probate? Is it necessary to have a HIPAA Waiver re-signed? If you have a Living Trust does your Trust own all your assets? How important is a Health Care Surrogate? What is the difference between a Living Will and a Will? Learn how to maintain control and privacy. Bay Forest Residents March 3 rd 9:30 10:30 Fresh Donuts & Coffee Please call and sign up!
