GAME: 64 (32-31) ROAD GAME: 34 (18-15) TONIGHT'S BROADCASTS: FS Florida WINZ (940 AM) WAQI (710 AM) FISH BITES The Marlins open the final leg of this nine-game, three-city road trip with the first of three against the Padres here at Petco Park. The Marlins will send left-haner Wei-Yin Chen to the mound for his first career start against the Friars. San Diego will call on right-hander Colin Rea, who is making his first start against the Fish. Miami opened this road trip with stops in Minnesota (1-2) and Arizona (1-2). Following an off-day on Thursday, Miami opens a 10-game homestand against Colorado (June 17-20), Atlanta (June 21-22), and the Cubs (June 23-26). YESTERDAY AT ARIZONA The Marlins tied a season-low with just three hits in a 6-0 shutout by the Diamondbacks, who took a 2-1 series victory with the win. Martín Prado, Chris Johnson, and Miguel Rojas had Miami's only hits, and the team did not have a runner reach scoring position. Adam Conley was tagged with the loss after allowing six runs (five earned) on 11 hits over 5.0 innings. Dustin McGowan was solid out of the bullpen, as he allowed just one hit and one walk and struck out four over 3.0 innings of relief. VS. THE PADRES Miami is looking to reverse a slide that has seen it drop nine of its last 12 meetings with the Padres, including five of the last six overall and three straight in San Diego. The Friars lead the all-time series, 91-81, with a 43-38 advantage in South Cali (22-18 at Petco Park). Also, according to STATS LLC, since 2013 the Padres are 12-0 when scoring three-plus runs against the Marlins, and 1-8 when scoring two-or-fewer. San Diego, which is second in the Majors in team batting average since May 27 at.286, behind only Kansas City (.288), has scored three-plus runs in nine of its last 11 outings, going 6-5 in that time. Over that same span (since June 1), Miami has allowed three-plus runs in 9 of 11 games, going 5-6. CLIMBING THE LADDER Ichiro Suzuki recorded a pinch-hit single on Saturday night at Arizona. He has now recorded 2,974 career hits, placing him at 31 st on Major League Baseball's all-time hits list. He is now 11 hits away from tying Sam Rice (2,985) for 30 th. Ichiro is batting.336 (39x116) on the season and is just 26 hits from 3,000. Ichiro tallied 1,278 hits in nine seasons with the Orix Blue Wave of Nippon Professional Baseball in Japan, giving him a combined 4,252 hits between the two leagues. He is just four hits from unofficially tying Pete Rose's Major League record of 4,256. In addition, his stolen base in the first inning on April 29 in Milwaukee was the 500 th of his MLB career. He became just the eighth player in Major League history to reach 500 career steals and 2,900-plus hits, joining Ty Cobb, Honus Wagner, Paul Molitor, Eddie Collins, Rickey Henderson, Lou Brock, and Barry Bonds. Ichiro now has 504 steals, and is currently tied with Paul Molitor for 38 th on the all-time list. Up next after Molitor are Tommy McCarthy and Luis Aparicio, who are tied for 37 th with 506 steals. Elias BEARING DOWN Wei-Yin Chen, starting for Miami tonight, is allowing a.281 average against, with nine home runs in 171 at-bats, with the bases empty this season, but has been much tougher to handle once there is traffic on the base paths. Chen is holding opponents to a.240 average with two home runs (104 at-bats) with runners on base, and to a.178 average with one home run (45 at-bats) with runners in scoring position. Among qualifying pitchers, only Madison Bumgarner (.123), Dan Straily (.155), and Jon Lester (.161) have a better average against with RISP in the National League this season. - STATS LLC DISPATCHES FROM THE ROAD Martín Prado is leading the Majors with a.410 batting average on the road this season...j.t. Realmuto, meanwhile, ranks fifth in the Majors with a.364 road average...marcell Ozuna had an 11-game road hitting streak snapped yesterday; it was the longest active run in the Majors. Ozuna is batting.323 on the road this year, including.404 (21x52) with 13 RBI over his last 12...Miami has a.545 (18-15) winning percentage on the road. That ranks tied with Cleveland and Toronto for seventh in the Majors, behind the Cubs (.677/21-10), Seattle (.633/19-11), St. Louis (.625/20-12), Washington (.618/21-13), San Francisco (.594/19-13), and Boston (.548/17-14). SWEET RELIEF Marlins' relievers are tied with the Padres for the second-most strikeouts in MLB and the National League since June 1, with 45 each, trailing only the Pirates (47). On the season, the Marlins bullpen ranks third in the NL (eighth in MLB) with 209 strikeouts, trailing San Diego (229) and Atlanta (224). Kyle Barraclough (45; fourth in MLB, second in NL) and David Phelps (40; T-ninth in MLB, T-fifth in NL) are both in the top 10 in strikeouts by relievers. Meanwhile, the Marlins are tied for second in the NL (T-5 in MLB) in relief wins with 11. They lead the NL with 23 saves, which is tied for the MLB lead with Baltimore and Texas. Miami s 37 holds are the third-most in the NL (eighth in MLB), behind San Francisco (47) and the Mets (38). SHUTTING THE DOOR A.J. Ramos earned his 19 th save of the season Friday night in his 19 th opportunity, setting a new Club record for consecutive saves to open a season. Ramos has converted 28 straight save opportunities dating back to last season, marking the third-longest active streak among Major League relievers. Brad Ziegler has successfully converted each of his last 40 opportunities, while Familia has saved 37 straight. Ramos' current streak is the second-longest in Club history, behind Steve Cishek's 33 GETTING THEM EARLY The Marlins have been struggling to stop opponents out of the gate over their last four games, as they have been outscored by a 17-5 margin in innings 1-6 over that span. They have been dominating the later innings, however, outscoring opponents by a 16-3 margin in the seventh inning and later. Christian Yelich ranks second in the National League with a.390 (23x59) batting average from the seventh inning on, while the Marlins rank fourth in the NL for the season (.261), behind only St. Louis (.303), Pittsburgh (.273), and Arizona (.264). That trend was turned on its on Thursday and Friday, however, as Miami scored seven times in the seventh inning in both games to propel themselves to wins in Minnesota and Arizona, respectively. According to STATS LLC, Miami was the first team since the Yankees (vs. Seattle) on September 4 & 5, 2007, to score seven or more times in the seventh inning of consecutive games, and according to Elias, it was the first time in MLB history that a team scored exactly seven runs in the seventh inning of consecutive games. JUNE 13 Brett Barberie hit the first inside-the-park home run in Franchise history in 1994. The solo homer came in the top of the 9th in St. Louis, tying the game at 1-1; the Cardinals walked off in the bottom of the inning, however.
