FISH BITES Miami continues a 10-game homestand with the opener of this four-game series against the NL Central leading Chicago Cubs tonight at 7:10 p.m. LHP Wei-Yin Chen is starting for Miami and make his first career start against the Cubs. Chicago is starting LHP Jon Lester, who in three career starts against the Fish has gone 0-2 with a 6.00 ERA. Today's ceremonial first pitches will be thrown by FOX Sports Florida's Jonathon Bullock, Fish Family member Gabriel Lopez and Wellmax Medical Center's Rene Arocha, while the national anthem is being performed by Spencer Minervini. The Marlins Foundation and FOX Sports Florida are hosting the 11 th Annual Fox Sports Florida Fantasy Auction tonight at Marlins Park. During the live television auction, fans and viewers have the opportunity to bid on once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Proceeds from this signature event benefit the Miami Marlins Education Fund. The first two series of this homestand saw the Fish take three of four from the Colorado Rockies, and split a two-game set against the Atlanta Braves. Miami returned to South Florida off a 4-5 road trip to Minnesota (1-2), Arizona (1-2) and San Diego (2-1). Miami's next road swing will take them to Detroit (June 28-29), Atlanta (June 30-July 2), Fort Bragg vs. Atlanta (July 3) and the Mets (July 4-6). YESTERDAY VS. ATLANTA Adam Conley turned in the longest outing by a Marlins starter this season in Miami's 3-0 win over the Atlanta Braves. Conley fired a career-high 8.0 innings, allowing just four hits and a walk while striking out four in the longest outing by a Miami starter since Tom Koehler (8.0) on September 9, 2015 vs. Milwaukee. All of Miami's run production came in the second, when Justin Bour homered after a lead-off triple by Marcell Ozuna, and Jeff Mathis singled to drive in the final run. Miami's 4-5-6 hitters of Ozuna (2x4), Bour (2x3) and Derek Dietrich (2x3) went 6x10 with three runs scored. ELIAS SAYS... Adam Conley tossed eight scoreless innings and allowed only four hits as the Marlins defeated the Braves, 3-0. In Miami's 72 nd game of the 2016 campaign, Conley became the first Marlins starting pitcher with an outing of at least eight innings this season. That leaves only one team remaining in the Majors that has not had a start of this length from one of its pitchers in 2016: the defending World Series champion Royals, who have played 71 games thus far. The last team to play this many games before getting such a start was the 2012 Rockies, who went the entire season without an eight-inning start. ZEROING IN On Tuesday, José Fernández tossed 7.0 scoreless innings against the Braves, and Adam Conley followed with 8.0 scoreless frames yesterday against Atlanta. It was the first time the Marlins rotation has provided consecutive scoreless starts of at least 7.0 innings since May 6-7, 2014. On May 6 of that season, Henderson Alvarez tossed the last complete game by the Fish (9.0), and he was followed the next day by Tom Koehler, who tied a career high with 8.0 innings against the same Mets team. Miami has had only one instance in which starters have made three consecutive scoreless starts of 7.0+ innings; August 17-19, 2005 (9.0/7.0/8.0). The starters are looking to provide three consecutive scoreless starts overall for just the fifth time in Franchise history. EARLY OUTBURSTS The Marlins and Cubs are two of the best teams in baseball when it comes to scoring first. Miami leads the Majors with Overall record on this date: 9-11 the most games scoring first (45), going 29-16 in such games, ahead of Seattle (43) and Pittsburgh (41). Chicago, however, owns the best record in MLB when scoring first, going 31-5 (.861). They are followed by Cleveland (30-7;.811) and Kansas City (28-8;.778). - STATS LLC BUYING IN Since starting the season 5-11 through April 23, Miami has turned the corner and gone 33-23 over its last 56 games. The Marlins.589 winning percentage since April 24 is tied with Cleveland for fourth-best in the Majors, behind San Francisco (.685; 37-17), Texas (.673; 37-18) and the Cubs (.654; 34-18). SWEET SWINGERS Miami is one of just two teams to have four qualifying players with averages of.300-or-higher in the Majors. Marcell Ozuna leads qualifying Marlins with a.323 average, followed by Martin Prado (.320), Christian Yelich (.311) and J.T. Realmuto (.303). Ichiro Suzuki, who is just short of qualifying, is batting.350. Boston also features four players at.300+: Xander Bogaerts (.351), David Ortiz (.339), Dustin Pedroia (.306) and Jackie Bradley, Jr. (.305). - STATS LLC #ASGWORTHY Marcell Ozuna is currently enjoying his finest Major League campaign, as he is currently leading the Marlins in triples (5) and home runs (15). If he continues on his current pace, he would become just the third player in Marlins history to lead the team in triples and home runs in the same season, joining Derrek Lee (7 3B, 27 HR) in 2002 and Moises Alou (5 3B, 23 HR) in 1997. Ozuna is currently one of five players to lead his team in average, home runs, RBI and runs scored this season. - STATS LLC RAGING BULL(PEN) Miami's bullpen has shown its strength over the last 13 games, allowing a total of nine runs over 41.2 innings for a 1.94 ERA, holding the Major League's lowest bullpen ERA since June 9. The Dodgers come in second at 2.42, followed by Arizona at 2.43. The 'pen is also limiting opponents to a.162 average in that same span, which is also the lowest in MLB, ahead of Arizona (.167) and Boston (.197). HOME TURNAROUND CHICAGO CUBS (47-23) LHP Jon Lester (9-3, 2.06) vs. MIAMI MARLINS (38-34) LHP Wei-Yin Chen (4-2, 5.22) MARLINS PARK, MIAMI, FL Thursday, June 23, 2016 7:10 P.M. GAME: 73 (38-34) HOME GAME: 37 (18-18) TONIGHT'S BROADCASTS: FS Florida/MLBN WINZ (940 AM) WAQI (710 AM) Over its first eight home games this season, Miami went just 1-7 with a team batting average of.243. In that time, the offense hit just five home runs while the pitching staff owned a 5.04 ERA. Since April 21, the Marlins have gone 17-11 at Marlins Park, which has brought their home record this season to 18-18. Their.607 winning percentage at home since that date is the third-best in the National League, behind the Cubs (21-9;.700) and San Francisco (19-9;.679). The Fish are batting.262 at home over that span, fourth-best in the National League, and have clubbed 26 home runs, while the staff has pitched to a 3.45 ERA, which ranks sixth in the NL. SHUTTING THE DOOR A.J. Ramos earned his 23 rd save of the season yesterday in his 23 rd opportunity, extending his Club record for consecutive saves to open a season. Ramos has converted 32 straight save opportunities dating back to last season, marking the third-longest active streak among Major League relievers. Brad Ziegler has successfully converted each of his last 43 opportunities, while Jeurys Familia has saved 40 straight. Ramos' current streak is the second-longest in Club history, behind Steve Cishek's 33. CLIMBING THE LADDER Ichiro Suzuki went 1x4 yesterday against Atlanta, pushing his Major League hit total to 2,983. On June 15 at San Diego, Ichiro unofficially passed Pete Rose's Major League hit record of 4,256 when combining his 1,278 hits with the Orix Blue Wave of Nippon Professional Baseball in Japan. Ichrio is batting.350 (48x137) this season and is just two hits away from tying Sam Rice (2,985) for 30 th on MLB's all-time hit list. - Elias UPCOMING STARTERS MARLINS VS.
