FISH BITES Miami continues its second homestand of the season, a seven-game set, with game three of four against the Washington Nationals tonight at 7:10 p.m. LHP Wei-Yin Chen is making his fifth career start against Washington, going 1-3 with a 5.09 ERA. Chen will be going up against RHP Joe Ross, who is making his second career start and fourth appearance against the Fish and has posted a lifetime mark of 1-0 with a 1.04 ERA. The current homestand began with Miami dropping three straight to the Atlanta Braves. Tonight's national anthem is being performed by the Falcon Cove Middle School band and the ceremonial first pitch is being thrown by Patrick Falcon. Tonight is Public Health Awareness Night, and fans can support the Public Health Awareness by purchasing a specially priced ticket. A portion of the proceeds from each ticket will support Public Health Student Association and other public health organizations in South Florida. Following this series with the Nationals, Miami will head back out on the road for nine games, traveling to San Francisco (April 22-24), Los Angeles (April 25-28) and Milwaukee (April 29-May 1). LAST NIGHT vs. WASHINGTON The Marlins and Nationals were scoreless through six innings, but Washington scored seven runs in the seventh inning to come away with a 7-0 win. Miami tallied five hits on the night, one each from Martín Prado, Giancarlo Stanton, Chris Johnson, Ichiro Suzuki and Marcell Ozuna. Adam Conley, who made his third start of the season, tossed six easy frames before running into trouble in the seventh, when he gave up back-to-back home runs after retiring the first batter of the inning. Later in the inning, the Nationals went back-to-back again, making it the first time in franchise history Miami has surrendered four home runs in one inning. Conley went 6.2 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits (two home runs) with a walk and eight strikeouts. FROM COLD TO HOT Last night, Miami received late-inning base hits from Chris Johnson and Ichiro Suzuki, who both came off the bench in the seventh. This season, Miami's non-starters have posted a.333 (11x33) average when coming off the bench, second in the National League to the St. Louis Cardinals, who are batting.378 (17x45). - Stats LLC ESCAPING THE BELTWAY Wei-Yin Chen is making fourth consecutive start against the Nats at his home ballpark and first overall outside of the Baltimore/DC region. Over his career, Chen has gone 1-2 with a 3.38 ERA at home, while in one start at Nationals Park he is 0-1 with a 12.46 ERA. He has yet to allow more than three runs to the Nats at home. In his last home start against Washington, July 12, 2015 at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, he allowed three runs (two earned) on eight hits while walking none and striking out seven over a career-high tying 8.0 innings. SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE In 75 career games against Washington, Giancarlo Stanton has connected for 25 home runs. Miami has gone 20-4 against the Nationals in games that he homers, including a 9-1 mark at Marlins Park. Miami's overall record against the Nats when Stanton homers (.833) is the fifth best among active players (min. 20 games) against any team. Justin Upton has gone 20-1 (.952) against the Rockies, followed by Andre Either (18-2;.900) against Arizona, Josh Hamilton (17-3;.850) against Seattle and Alex Rodriguez (30-6;.833) against Detroit. - Stats LLC HITTING SECOND Dee Gordon leads all National League second basemen in total hits since 2014 with 397 and ranks second in the Majors behind Jose Altuve (442). Rounding out the top five are Ian Kinsler (392), Robinson Cano (378) and Daniel Murphy (331). - Stats LLC GETTING HIS STEPS IN Christian Yelich has reached base safely via hit or walk in each of his 12 games played this season after drawing his 12 th walk of the season last night. Yelich's 12 walks ranks third in the NL behind Odubel Herrera (14) and Gregory Polanco (13). His.500 on-base percentage this season is tied for second in the Majors with Daniel Murphy, trailing only Dexter Fowler (.508). HOME COOKIN' Over his last 10 games at home dating back to last season, Dee Gordon has recorded multiple-hit games five times, including three three-hit efforts, batting.362 (17x47). Since the start of 2015, Gordon ranks fourth among current NL hitters in average at home, hitting at a.333 clip (115x345), behind David Peralta (.338), Bryce Harper (.337) and Paul Goldschmidt (.336). His 115 hits in that span lead the NL and are tied for second in MLB with Xander Bogaerts, behind Jose Altuve (117). POWER SERIES This series between Miami and Washington features two of the National League's biggest bats in Giancarlo Stanton and Bryce Harper. Since the start of 2014, Stanton and Harper are two of just four current National Leaguers to record 60+ home runs. Stanton (67) leads the NL, followed by Nolan Arenado (66), Anthony Rizzo (66) and Harper (62). - Stats LLC CLIMBING THE LADDER With an infield single in last night's game against the Nationals, Ichiro Suzuki moved to within three hits of tying Frank Robinson (2,943) for 33 rd on the MLB all-time hits list. Ichiro is batting.455 (5x11) on the season and is just 60 hits from 3,000.
