THE SNOW MUST GO ON Plans are well underway for the over-the-top, Red Bull Snow Boundaries crosscountry endurance race at ERX Motor Park in Elk River, Minnesota, slated for February 20th. The first of its kind event will feature two classes of racers, up to four hours of racing, and a 13-mile closed-loop course featuring every kind of terrain imaginable. It s the kind of race everyone will be talking about and asking if you were there or better yet, if you raced it. While Mother Nature has yet to bless the area with another significant snowfall, it hasn t stopped event organizers from moving ahead full-throttle in preparation for the event. The crew at ERX Motor Park has been planning for Red Bull Snow Boundaries since mid-summer, putting plans in place to ensure the race would take place with or without snow from above. With several snow guns, three groomers and every imaginable type of heavy equipment necessary; the staff at the 300-plus acre facility have been busy carving our trails, digging holding ponds for snow making water, and most recently blowing mountains of snow. The snow is then either stock piled for future use, or spread out across the designated course, creating a base of 2 to 3 feet of compacted snow on the future racing surface. We ve been running 24-hour shifts with the snow guns, said ERX co-owner Chris Carlson. The colder weather has really allowed to increase how much snow we can make with six to eight (snow) guns working around the clock, we can make a lot of snow in a short amount of time. Already the snocross portion of the track is one of the biggest the facility has ever had, and other areas of the 13-mile track are starting to take shape.
Hundreds of interested racers have expressed interest with many already registered, taking advantage of the early discounts. With more than $100,000 in cash and prizes up for grabs including a Polaris RZR XP Turbo side-by-side and a Polaris 600 Axys 600 and 800 snowmobiles, the event is expecting a full field or racers for the one-day event.
