Match Reports Under 6 Yellow COACH: Bec Dyer 0414 687 965 COACH: Keely Dyer MANAGER: Ben Dyer Lost 34-4 to Cronulla Caringbah After all the rain we had Friday, everyone was surprised games were still on. So happy smiling faces greeted us at Akuna! All the kids played their hardest with great runs and some good tackling. Jonny did well leading the team as captain. Our only try came from our very own speed machine, Lacey. I know I've said it before and I'll say it again...the score doesn't reflect the effort we put in. Our star of the week: Lacey. Under 7 Blue COACH: Nathan Morante 0414 943 514 MANAGER: Michelle Thompson - 0402 045 660 Lost 44-8 to Gymea Gorillas Match Reports (continued) Another great game and our boys tried really hard. Fantastic tries by Noah and Cayde. Man of the Match went to Cooper McMahon who played a great game even when injured. This Weeks Game Menai Roosters versus De La Salle Saturday 30 th May @ 9:45 Captain Cook Oval Under 8B s COACH: Ben Bruzgulis 0437 698 461 MANAGER: Candice Bruzgulis 0433 135 860 Current Position: Equal 2 nd Won 22-16 over Cronulla Caringbah It was another day of blue skies to greet us on Saturday morning, which was always going to be good for the footy. After the unexpected rain on Friday we weren't sure whether the games were on, but we all arrived to a damp Anzac Oval ready to play. Also, we thought Engadine were going to be our opponents, but draw changes meant that we were up against Cronulla-Caringbah. Always a tough game. Improvements from the boys at training showed with the guys and there enthusiasm was quite obvious. Wally would have been proud of the textbook tackling. Passing laterally, tackling round the laces and talking in defence was definitely our strong point, and this is where we gained the edge. After leading the whole game, the Sharkies scored 2 quick tries in the last third, and went to a 16-12 lead. But the chooks held there nerve and a great try to Angus put us in front, with Blake kicking the goal. Just up by 2 points still has us on edge, however a late sneaky try by Jackson from dummy half gave us the break we needed and then the win. Archie, Angus, Jack and Harry led us up front with good running, while Levi, Jayden and Blake dominated in defence. Jayden pick up the crunchie award while Jackson received the footy cards for his great try at the end. Keep up the good work boys, try your best and keep having fun. Go the Chooks...! This Weeks Game Menai Roosters versus Yarrawarrah Tigers Saturday 30 th May @ 11:25 Akuna Stadium

Under 8C s COACH: Sam Lenzo 0425 317 003 MANAGER: Rosanna Arrowsmith Current Position 5 th Lost 36-0 to Gymea Gorillas Match Reports (continued) It's was another glorious Saturday morning at Akuna Stadium and we were all relieved to hear footy was on. We nearly scored early with a fantastic half-length field steam train like straight run from Ashton, with the Gorillas try line defence holding off Riley A from scoring. The Gorillas ran with the ball well all game showing some skilful side stepping cutting through our defence. Love the commitment from all our boys with their tackling improving every game. Levi was leading the way first off the line every time, which earned him our player of the match award, well done Levi. Dominic received our excellence award with his commitment to the dummy half role, enthusiasm in communicating and directing the play and his improved defence. Really impressed with our boys at training, all working hard enjoying their training and one another. Great work team. This Weeks Game Menai Roosters versus Kurnell Stingrays Saturday 30 th May @ 9:45 Marton Park

Under 10A s COACH: Paul Doran 0414 355 878 MANAGER: Tony Doyle 0407 108 440 Current Position 7 th Lost 32-12 to Aquinas Colts Match Reports (continued) We were in this contest in most facets of the game but errors proved our downfall. Dropped balls, poor passes, penalties for stripping the ball and kicking the ball dead all limited us to short sets and/or gifted good field position to Colts. The spirit was there but our execution was lacking. I'd much prefer that than the reverse. When we had the ball we looked threatening every time we got to the edges. Angus scored a determined try after some great lead up work by Connor and an off load. Both Angus and Connor had fine games. Aidan was also a threat with the ball in hand and notched a smart try in the first half. Our opponents showed some very good tackling technique at times and we need to improve in that side of the game. Back to preparing for about 8 games at this higher level. It's not many games really. It's a great opportunity to test ourselves and keep improving boys!. Menai Roosters versus Engadine Dragons Saturday 30 th May @ 10:50 Anzac Oval Supporters at Akuna Stadium cheering on the Roosters

Under 11B s COACH: Drew Blackman 0410 442 121 MANAGER: Phil Blackman 0418 453 796 Current Position 8 th Lost 36-12 to Gymea Gorillas Tries: Harry 2 Goals: JB, Coop Match Reports (continued) This was definitely a game of two halves. Gymea came out all guns blazing and we couldn t slow the play the ball down or move up off our line. As usual great defence from Coop saved a few more tries. At oranges the score didn t flatter the boys in blue and we were down 28-0. However a different second half certainly proved to our supporters we have what it takes. Attitude and aggression in defence stopped the Gorillas and had them on the back foot. Great hit ups from Luke and JB got as up the park which saw Harry go across for a double. The second half was 18-12 with Gymea scoring on the bell. We have proved to ourselves we can match it with two top of the table teams for 20 minutes. The Last 2 weeks against Gymea and Como who are currently sitting 1 and 2, we have given it to them for periods of the game. Now we just need to get it together for a full game. Luke & Coop got Man of the Match This Weeks Game Menai Roosters versus Taren Point Titans Saturday 30 th May @ 10:50 Gwawley Park Proud Sponsors of the Under 11 s

Under 12C s COACH: Brett Love 0430 105 038 MANAGER: Rod Fuller 0408 965 520 Won 28-10 over Aquinas Colts Current Position: 5 th Match Reports (continued) We have now made our mark back in C Grade. If I could of only have hypnotised you guys to believe you were playing C Grade earlier!! So many individual efforts worthy of being mentioned. What a start to the game? Watching Blayne run the ball forward as per our game plan was a real buzz. Grabbing a meat pie and setting up Christians FIRST ever is such a compliment to a player who deserves everything he puts into the game. Blayne is making it look easy by following our simple game plans and also accepting that SETTING up tries is just as a big part of the game as scoring them. Not only did our Little White Lightning Corey make his own space he had our ever improving backline offering him opportunities all game. Following our training and passing the ball out wide gave our outside backs ample opportunity to show us their skills. To score tries out wide from 4 and 5 passes makes me a very proud coach. I am very proud of my very own Cooper for directing the backline as per our game plan. With Ryan controlling the blindside plays. I know you guys have the respect and trust from your team mates to be successful. Coops your lil dummy inside step to score brings back memories!!! Nudge Nudge Wink wink. Great TRY!! I believe I have found positions and responsibilities for each player. Some players might not understand their roles yet. I have experimented with Riley at 5/8 and i have nothing but praise for his efforts so far, with our post game chat last week Riley knew his high and low points. Riley will play a big role in our wingers scoring tries. I believe Brodie has now accepted he performs better out wide with the chances of running around his opposition and setting up his outside backs. I have faith in his draw and pass skills. Our backs could not have enjoyed the limelight without our robust forwards going forward. We could not be the team we are without BIG WILL. He is our Gallen or better still Our Aaron Woods. With great pumping legs from Boo Bailey and the burst of energy Big Kev gives us in our 1, 2 and 3 settles. Our backs would not have the space without their efforts. Seeing Boo s confidence grow and Kev understanding his own importance to the team shows us we have so much more to offer as a team. Nathan it s a big plus when we see you back joining in the defence line and making tackles. Now that we have worked out a way to keep you in at dummy half longer, we will need you at your best in both attack and defence. My unsung hero needs a big call out for recognition. My PEST in the middle!!! MITCH. You turned up and once again did the job i asked you to do. Be a pest and from marker try to tackle every player you could. If you didn t make tackles you put the play maker off their game. You were hit and hit hard. To your credit you bounced back on your feet and became my pest again. You were a worthy recipient of the best defender trophy. Our best attacker could have been many players Cooper, Ra, Blayne and Corey. The most exciting was Christian and for his eagerness to want the ball and his constant backing up of Ryan and Blayne s plays. To See Christian run his angle off a set move from Blayne right in front of me was the highlight of the game. Watching player s complete set moves completes me!!!! I am very proud of the way our team have accepted our simple set moves and training requirements. Steve and Yarn I thank you for being a part of our first win of the season. I invite any parent to join us and be a part of what we hope to give back to our lil champs. Big thanks to Josh Blackman. You play way above your age. Big thanks to Young Cooper Gleeson and Jordan. You guys are always welcome and please join us at training when you can. This Weeks Game Menai Roosters versus Gymea Gorillas Saturday 30 th May @ 12:20 Akuna Stadium

Under 15B s COACH: Bryan Ratcliffe 0414 331 709 COACH: Darren Ratcliffe 0401 261 142 MANAGER: Jodie Hendley - 0408 440 723 Current Position 3rd Lost 18-6 to Gymea Gorillas Match Reports (continued A disappointing loss for the boys. We started well & completed our first few sets for the first time this year very pleasing to see. The game was a tight contest in the first half & with another great defensive effort we kept Gymea scoreless for a long period. When we me moved the ball to their end of the field and applied some pressure, Ben crashed over for the first try of the match which was converted by Nathan and we lead 6-0. The arm wrestle continued but once again we were without any reserves and the boys started to tire. We had a player injured late in the first half and as all good teams do, Gymea targeted him and scored right on the half time siren score at half time was 6-4. Very unlucky not to keep them scoreless in the first half. We tried to re-group at the break but fatigue had set in for some of our forwards and Gymea got on top in the second half, winning the game 18-6. A game we could have won if we had some players on the bench and could get some fresh legs onto the park. It s very disappointing for the team that some players are choosing to do other things on game day and continue to let their mates down. A much higher level of commitment is required if we are to give this comp a real shake. It was a great effort from the boys who did play. This team is improving each week and will continue to do so. Man of the match went to Ben who had a great game in the front row. Jordan had his usual impact on the field with some crunching hits and great runs picking up two points. One point went to Nick who involved himself continually from the left wing and finished the game at centre. Very safe under the high ball. 3 rd Grade COACH: Glenn Brown 0404 872 053 MANAGER: Craig O Mara 0428 090 906 Current Position 1 st Won 32-18 over Como Jannali Crocodiles Match Reports (continued) Well, Como certainly came to play, and this was the first real test the boys faced this year. After an ordinary 1st half, we went to the break down 18 to 14 and we knew we were in for a tight game. Whatever Browny said to the boys in the sheds at half time obviously fired them up, I was off having a refreshment!! They came out in the second half with a new determination and scored 18 unanswered points. Overall we scored 7 tries but could only manage 2 from 7 with the boot!! We ll have to look into that!! A good, tough test, which we came through on the right side of the ledger. Special mention to Brenton Goulding whose new career as a battering ram would be hurting him a little this morning I would imagine. Also to Nathan Jenkins who scored an epic 4 pointer, from what he ll tell you was well inside our own half!!!
