HEAD COACH BRIAN GIORGIS 11th SEASON CAREER RECORD: 251-73 (.775) 6-TIME MAAC COACH OF THE YEAR Since arriving on Marist s campus prior to the 2002-03 season, Giorgis has taken the Red Foxes from a team struggling to reach.500 to national prominence. With his first team in 2002-03, a squad which had lost the fourth- and fifth-leading scorers in program history to graduation the prior year, Giorgis improved the Red Foxes win total from 11 to 13. Marist also earned its first win in a MAAC Tournament game in school history with a first-round triumph over Loyola. Here is a list of accomplishments the Red Foxes have achieved since Giorgis first season: Nine consecutive 20-win seasons, six straight 25-win seasons. Two 30+ win seasons (2007-08, 2010-11), including a program record 32 wins in 2007-08 Two perfect 18-0 records in the MAAC (2007-08, 2010-11) MAAC record 35-game winning streak against conference opponents (including postseason) between the 2006-07 and 2008-09 seasons. Also had a 34-game MAAC winning streak between the 2009-10 and 2011-12 seasons. Both streaks are the only ones in MAAC history to reach the 30-game plateau. Nine winning streaks of 10 or more games, including two separate streaks in 2011-12. Twice have those streaks extended to 20 or more consecutive wins, including 27 in a row in 2010-11, which was the longest in the nation at the time. 25-2 record in the MAAC Tournament, including 20 consecutive wins. The Red Foxes were 0-5 before Giorgis arrival. 5-8 record in the NCAA Tournament, including becoming the first MAAC program to reach the Sweet 16. Seven straight NCAA Tournament appearances is the longest active streak in the country of any school that does not belong to the SEC, Big East, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12 or ACC. Marist has ranked in the top 50 in the nation in scoring defense in each of the last eight seasons, including leading all of NCAA Division I in 2010-11 with a 49.7 PPG/Allowed average. Marist has ranked in the top 20 in the nation in fewest turnovers per game each of the last seven seasons. Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Coach of the Year six times - four times outright (2003-04, 2007-08, 2010-11, 2011-12), and a share of the award on two other occasions (2004-05, 2005-06). Inducted into the New York State Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010. Prior to his arrival at Marist, Giorgis enjoyed a tremendous amount of success at Our Lady of Lourdes High School in Poughkeepsie. As the head girls basketball coach at Lourdes, Giorgis posted an astounding record of 451-44 in his 19 seasons, good for a winning percentage of.911. He won nine state championships with the Warriors. In his last two years, his teams posted a combined mark of 56-2 and earned the top ranking in the Madison Square Garden Tri-State Area Poll each year. Giorgis has earned two WBCA Region One Coach of the Year honors and two Coach of the Year awards from the New York State Coaches Association. He led Lourdes to the league title all 19 of his seasons there and won 15 Section I crowns, with the last 11 coming consecutively. Giorgis achievements at Lourdes were not limited to the basketball court. He is the only coach in state history to take teams in four different sports to the state Final Four, as he also guided the baseball, softball and volleyball teams there. His softball squad captured the state crown in 1990. Additionally, Giorgis coached golf and tennis at Lourdes and served as athletic director for 10 years.
