Approaching the winning post on the first occasion Southern Sunset had to be steadied when tightened for room by Matti s Dancing, which was taken in off its course by Ferrero (Casey Bruce) which shifted in when not sufficiently clear. Casey Bruce was severely reprimanded and advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future. Turning out of the straight on the first occasion Ferrero, which was over-racing, had to be steadied off the heels of Curata Fire which, after obtaining the lead, steadied the pace. Shortly after this incident Ferrero shifted out and made contact with Jack Hammer, unbalancing that gelding. Rounding the home turn until shortly after straightening Ferrero was held up when unable to obtain a clear run. Brad Rawiller, rider of Listo Gitano (first placegetter), advised the gelding raced further back in the field today due to him restraining to gain cover. Brad Rawiller added that, and it was noted, at its previous

start at Geelong on July 4 when he rode it on that occasion that Listo Gitano settled in a more forward position due to the slow tempo of the race. A post race veterinary examination of Curata Fire, which finished at the rear of the field, failed to reveal any abnormalities. Race 2 DENNIS FAMILY HOMES MAIDEN PLATE - 1200 metres: Beau Dazzle was reluctant to proceed to the barriers and trainer Mr Shea Eden was advised that a warning has been placed on the filly s record. Coram was slow to begin. Youl Soldier began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped Rusty Sparkles. Rusty Sparkles raced wide without cover. Rounding the home turn Beau Dazzle hung out. For a short distance near the 200m Time Square was held up for a clear run. Near the 200m Good Night had to be eased when tightened for room between Time Square and Rusty Sparkles which shifted in when laying in. Nearl 100m Tsigana Begood was disappointed for a run to the inside of Beau Dazzle and as a result went to the winning post not fully tested. Over the concluding stages Youl Soldier which was giving ground, had to be steadied when avoiding the heels of Bells And Whistles which shifted in slightly. Ben Knobel, rider of Chosen Friend, reported that the gelding resented the kickback when racing at the rear of the field and gave ground under hard riding in the straight. A post race veterinary examination of Chosen Friend failed to reveal any abnormalities. Mr John Hickmott, trainer of Chosen Friends, was questioned subsequent to the event regarding comments he made while being interviewed by TVN prior to the race. Mr Hickmott clarified to the Stewards that although Chosen Friends, which was having its second race start, had a long trip form Murray Bridge the day before and that the gelding had left some feed, he was satisfied that Chosen Friends was presented to race in a fit condition. His comments were noted. Race 3 DAVIDSONS 2YO FILLIES MAIDEN PLATE - 1200 metres: Estaminet and Imperial Lass (NZ) were both slow to begin. Distraught jumped away awkwardly, shifted in and took Manhattan Star in onto Domino Vitale. Absolutelycertain got its head up shortly after the start. Manhattan Star over-raced in the early stages. In the early and middle stages Estaminet raced ungenerously and approaching the 400m had to be checked off the heels of She s Got Curves. Cool n Sassy and Domino Vitale raced wide without cover.

Estaminet was held up for a clear run rounding the home turn and until passing the 200m. Humorous Bet had difficulty obtaining a clear run rounding the home turn. On straightening Humorous Bet and Domino Vitale came together resulting in Domino Vitale becoming unbalanced. In the straight Killara Miss laid in under pressure. A post race veterinary examination of Killara Miss revealed the filly was shin sore and lame in the off foreleg and trainer Mr Robert Smerdon was advised that a veterinary clearance is required prior to Killara Miss racing again. Brad Rawiller, rider of Imperial Lass (NZ), reported that when under pressure in the straight his mount made ground however, over the concluding stages was held up for clear running. Race 4 G J MCDONALD & CO REAL ESTATE 3YO MAIDEN PLATE - 1300 metres: Sartorial underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers and was passed suitable to race. Right And Ready began awkwardly. Saint Hoaks raced wide without cover. So You Pink was held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight however laid in under pressure in the straight. Jake Noonan, rider of Hei Matua (NZ) which was having its first start, could offer no explanation for the poor performance other than it may be looking for races of a longer distance. A post race veterinary examination of Hei Matua (NZ) failed to reveal any abnormalities. Race 5 SIX FOOT SIX SHOWCASE FILLIES AND MARES BM70 HANDICAP - 1000 metres: Prior to the start of the race trainer Mr Matt Laurie advised that Lamingtons would be ridden back today as it has not been competitive when ridden forward. Lamingtons settled worse than mid-field however wide without cover and failed to run on. On jumping away Noela s Choice was inconvenienced when crowded for room between Beluga Miss and Purrealy Solved. Magondo lost its off hind plate in running. Mark Zahra, rider of Beluga Miss, reported that the filly has been consistent in its previous runs when being able to dictate terms in front however, today found himself in a position just behind the leader and failed to run on when placed under pressure. A subsequent veterinary examination of Beluga Miss revealed the filly to be lame in the near foreleg and trainer Mr Matt Laurie was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness is required prior to Beluga Miss racing again. Race 6 SOUTHERN BAY BREWERY CO BM64 HANDICAP - 1300 metres: Lady Nhung was slow to begin. Esprit Warrior began awkwardly. Providence raced wide without cover for the majority of the event.

Dillon Hall was held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight and passing the 200m was disappointed for a run between Esprit Warrior and Per Se (Caitlin Jones) which shifted in under pressure. As a result of this Dillon Hall was held up for a short distance. Apprentice Caitlin Jones was advised to exercise more care when in similar circumstances. Lincoln Coffey, rider of Lady Nhung that performed below expectations, reported that after missing the start the mare failed to improve into the race from the 800m. Glen Boss, rider of Great De Here, reported the gelding did not feel right in its action on return to the mounting yard. A post race veterinary examination of Great De Here revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg and trainer Mr Mark Kavanagh was advised that a veterinary clearance is required prior to Great De Here racing again. Race 7 BAY FM & K ROCK WINTER CHALLENGE SYNTHETIC STAYERS SERIES HEAT 1-2100 metres: Prior to the start of Race 1 trainer Mr Wez Hunter advised that Laconic Lad (NZ) would be ridden forward today from the inside barrier. Laconic Lad (NZ) settled towards the rear of the field and rider Brad Rawiller explained that after beginning fairly he was of the view that he would not cross the two runners to his inside so he elected to take a sit behind those runners and for this reason he raced further back than intended. Prior to correct weight trainer Ms Alison Bennett and Mark Zahra rider of Jileks Spur, second passed the post, viewed the Stewards film before deciding not to lodge an objection. Stewards also viewed the film on behalf of the connections of Jileks Spur and did not proceed with an objection and correct weight was declared. Mister Cool was slow to begin. Turning out of the straight on the first occasion, Polkaface had to be checked off the heels of The Princeling. Jileks Spur raced wide without cover in the early and middle stages. Rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight Jimmy s Better was held up for a clear run and shifted to the inside of runners passing the 200m to gain a clear run. Laconic Lad (NZ) had some difficulty gaining a clear run rounding the home turn. Prior to straightening Tejon was held up when unable to obtain a clear run. Shortly after straightening Tunes shifted out to improve its position from behind Special Dynasty and in doing so made contact with Jileks Spur. Shortly after this, Special Dynasty shifted out under pressure taking Tunes out onto Jileks Spur. Post race veterinary examinations of Polkaface and Mister Cool both failed to reveal any abnormalities. Dean Holland, rider of Special Dynasty, reported the gelding hung out for the majority of the event and gave ground under pressure in the straight. Craig Newitt, rider of Tejon, reported that although held up slightly prior to straightening the gelding made moderate ground in the straight when under pressure. He added Tejon may have come to the end of a long preparation. A post race veterinary examination of Tejon revealed no abnormalities and trainer Mr Simon Morrish confirmed the gelding would now be spelled.

Race 8 GEELONG FINANCIAL GROUP BM64 HANDICAP - 1300 metres: Grand Voyageur raced wide without cover. Apprentice Chris Caserta, rider of Befitting, was questioned regarding Befitting losing ground on the field passing the 800m. He explained that the gelding, which was having its second run from a spell, lost contact with the field passing the 800m despite him urging it to some degree. He further added that again near the 600m, he urged his mount to keep in contact with the field and then rode hard in the straight where Befitting made moderate ground to the winning post. Chris Caserta added that Befitting would benefit from racing and would be better when racing over longer distances. Chris Caserta was advised that in future he would be expected to show more vigour in his riding when in a position after losing contact with the field. Race 9 SPORTINGBET BM64 HANDICAP - 1900 metres: Prior to the start of Race 1 trainer Mr Wez Hunter advised that Resounding Miss would be ridden forward today from the wide barrier. Resounding Miss led. In the early stages Noble Twostep over-raced. Noble Twostep was held up for clear running rounding the home turn until the 200m. Glen Boss, rider of Dalaniwave (IRE), reported that the mare did not handle travelling down the hill passing the 700m however, over the final 100m made some ground to the winning post. Jamie Mott, rider of Walloon Region which performed poorly, reported the gelding did not stretch out on today s track. A subsequent veterinary examination of Walloon Region revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg and trainer Mr Mike Moroney was advised that a veterinary clearance is required prior to Walloon Region racing again. When questioned regarding the improved performance of Resounding Miss, trainer Mr Wez Hunter explained the mare was backing up from Friday July 11 and this would be its third run for the stable which would have benefitted the mare s fitness. He added that he expected a forward showing from the mare due to Resounding Miss having no weight on its back today with the 3kg claim of Chris Caserta.
