1 STEWARDS REPORT Hawkesbury Race Club CLARENDON RACECOURSE Thursday 3 August 2017 Weather: Overcast Track: Good (4) Rail: +3m 1300m to WP; true remainder Penetrometer: 4.97 STEWARDS: T J Vassallo (Chairman), R W Livingstone, D M Greer and cadets T D North and I H Grimes. Supplementary Reports: WARWICK FARM Wednesday 2 August 2016 Race 7: tab.com.au Handicap 1400m Tivoli Street stable representative Mr C Duckworth advised this morning that they were satisfied with the post-race condition of the gelding. He added that Tivoli Street had performed well this preparation, whereby it was successful in obtaining its maiden win from six starts and in the circumstances the gelding had earned an immediate spell. LATE RIDING CHANGES: As R Brewer was indisposed, Stewards permitted the following riding substitutions: Race 5 Race 8 G Buckley on Roving Eye. P King on Too Chic. RACE 1: Hawkesbury Race Club Motel Benchmark 70 Handicap 1000m Florid correct weight was delayed to enable Stewards to view the photo finish of 2 nd placing. When they were satisfied, the correct numbers had been semaphored correct weight was given. Bite The Media after being loaded into the barrier, became somewhat fractious and when the start was effect laid back on the gates and as a consequence lost considerable ground (5L). Trainer Mr M Johnston advised that the mare would now be retired from racing. On this advice, no action was taken. Minnesota a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Goldfinch when questioned regarding the performance, App. D Panya stated that shortly after the start her mount knuckled. She added, although she did not have to make too much use of the filly to cross and lead, in her opinion it raced flat and was most disappointing in its failure to run on in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to the off-fore heel. Trainer Mr S Englebrecht advised that Goldfinch now will undergo a

2 thorough veterinary examination, the results of which he will forward to the Stewards, at which point he will make a decision on the filly s immediate racing future. RACE 2: Richmond Club Class 1 Handicap (Scaled + 0.5kg) 1100m Texas Tycoon began awkwardly. When questioned regarding his riding in the early stages, T Clark stated that his instructions were to position his mount where comfortable and get it to settle as it has a tendency to overrace. He added on jumping his mount got its head up and lost ground and he restrained in accordance with his instructions. T Clark was further questioned as to whether or not in the early stages there was an opportunity to obtain a position on the back of Albumin. He said that, bearing in mind his instructions to endeavour to get the gelding to settle he did not wish to pressure his mount shortly after the start and go forward as this may have resulted in the horse racing keenly. He said however in the middle stages from his wide barrier, when the tempo was slow he felt that it would have been detrimental to the gelding s chances by continuing to restrain when the pace was slow and he therefore elected to allow his mount to stride forward when racing in a three wide position outside Storm Master. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Storm Master slow to begin. RACE 3: Hawkesbury Gazette and Courier Maiden Plate 1300m Antonio s Pride the declaration of correct weight was delayed to enable the Stewards to view the official patrol films to ascertain whether or not the gelding was afforded a fair start. After viewing the films, Stewards found that, whilst the barrier occupied by Antonio s Pride was slightly slow to open, the gelding lost little ground and, as the Stewards were satisfied this had not materially affected its finishing position, correct weight was declared. The matter was brought to the attention of the club starter for remedial action and testing prior to the next race. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which was having its first race start, did not reveal any abnormalities. Stellar Victoria slow to begin (2L). Cloudless Sky slow to begin. When the pace commenced to slacken approaching the 700m the mare began to overrace and shifted out. A short distance later Cloudless Sky shifted back in across the running of Stellar Victoria despite the efforts of its rider, resulting in that runner having to be steadied. Inquiry hung out under pressure in the straight and proved difficult to ride out. Sahara Emaar began awkwardly and as a result rider J Parr became unbalanced. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, rider J Parr stated that his mount travelled well throughout, however weakened noticeably shortly after straightening and was inclined to hang out. He added that the gelding was also make an abnormal respiratory noise. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame behind. Stable representative Mr B Ryan was advised a veterinary clearance including the results of a satisfactory endoscopic examination would be required prior to Sahara Emaar racing again. Overraced in the early and middle stages.

3 Spanish Steps the filly kicked out in the tie-up stalls, underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start. On arrival at the barriers Spanish Steps was again examined by the Club's Veterinary Officer, who confirmed the earlier finding that the filly was fit to start. When questioned regarding his riding, A Hyeronimus stated his instructions were to ride the filly quiet from its wide barrier as it had a tendency to overrace. He said, after beginning particularly well, he elected to restrain his mount in an endeavour to find cover and ultimately settled at the back of the field. He added, whilst there was initially an opportunity to follow Sun And Heir rounding the home turn and to look for running to the extreme outside of the field, bearing in mind the filly was resuming from a spell, when a run presented in front of him he endeavoured to move into that position and thereby not cover extra ground, however when Lana s Magic shifted its ground in the early part of the straight he was disappointed for a run and as a result he was obliged to shift back in passing the 300m, where his mount when under pressure thereafter finished its race off well. A Hyeronimus further stated Spanish Steps in his opinion peaked on its run over the latter stages. Trainer Mr J Thompson confirmed the nature of the instructions issued to A Hyeronimus and was reminded of his obligations to notify stewards of any change in riding tactics. Star Bolt began awkwardly. Mudcrab slow to begin. Lana s Magic began awkwardly. Sun And Heir overraced in the early and middle stages. And So It Goes when questioned regarding the performance of the mare, rider T Clark stated from his good draw he was able to settle further forward today, whereby his mount travelled well. He added, however shortly after straightening his mount was under pressure and failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. RACE 5: Richmond Golf Club Maiden Plate 1800m Full Face slow to begin. Roving Eye shortly after the start was shifted in behind runners to obtain cover. Passing the 1400m was crowded when tightened for room between Full Face and Mateship, which was taken in slightly by She s Demanding. Dashing Special raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Mateship raced wide without cover throughout. Chilli Beauty a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. RACE 6: Clarendon Tavern Maiden Handicap 1500m Jewel Of Honour slow to begin. Overraced in the early and middle stages. Hung out badly from the 800m and ran wide rounding the home turn and in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mr S Singleton advised that Jay N Ava would now be spelled. Mr Singleton was advised the mare would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again. Triksing shortly after the start was shifted in behind runners to obtain cover. Diamond Afire overraced in the early and middle stages and when the pace commenced to slacken passing the 100m was hampered and carried wider by Tata Ma Pick, which shifted out and away from the heels of Dragon s Shadow. Manhattan Drive raced wide throughout without cover. Sacred Edge over the final 100m was inclined to hang in under pressure. Tata Ma Pick a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Ms G Markwell advised the gelding would now be retired. On this assurance no action was taken. Dragon s Shadow when questioned regarding the gelding racing in the lead today, trainer Ms K Outtrim stated that she instructed App. B Ryan to be positive out of the gates as the gelding has not previously shown any gate speed in its only race start. She added it was not her intention for the gelding to lead today, however with the blinkers on for the first time, the gelding, after beginning well and after being urged along out of the gates by its rider, was able to obtain the leading position. Notwithstanding this Ms Outtrim was nevertheless advised to notify the Stewards of any change in riding tactics. When questioned regarding the gelding s improved performance today, Ms Outtrim stated that in her opinion it had benefited with the addition of blinkers and was able to dictate terms when leading. A short distance later when Cheeky Bella commenced to shift out under pressure Rosettas Whey was able to eventually obtain that run. Near the 100m had to be steadied when crowded for room between Princess Freya and Pepperberry (T Berry). Our Anniversaire (App. J Van Overmeire), which was racing to the outside of Pepperberry also shifted in at that point, contributing to the incident. Both T Berry and App. Overmeire were advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future. Cheeky Bella for some distance near the 900m was eased when awkwardly placed to the inside of Princess Freya (J Collett), which shifted in when not clear. J Collett was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. Princess Freya A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
