FISH BITES Miami continues a 10-game homestand with the second game of this four-game series against the Colorado Rockies today at 4:10 p.m. LHP Wei-Yin Chen is starting for Miami and making his second career start against the Rockies, going 0-1 with a 5.68 ERA. Colorado is starting RHP Tyler Chatwood, who is making his second career start against the Fish, going 0-1 with a 13.50 ERA. Tonight's ceremonial first pitches will be thrown by Adam Blomberg and Luis Castillo, while the national anthem is being performed by Energy Team member Elisa. The homestand will continue Tuesday with the Fish entertaining the Atlanta Braves in a quick two-game set, followed by a four-game weekend series against the Chicago Cubs. Miami returned to South Florida off a 4-5 road trip to Minnesota (1-2), Arizona (1-2) and San Diego (2-1). Miami's next road swing will take them to Detroit (June 28-29), Atlanta (June 30-July 2), Fort Bragg vs. Atlanta (July 3) and the Mets (July 4-6). LAST NIGHT VS. COLORADO Miami pitchers tossed the 16 th one-hitter in franchise history in a 5-1 win over the visiting Colorado Rockies. Adam Conley went 5.2 innings without allowing a hit before Carlos Gonzalez doubled to right field in the sixth. Colorado followed that hit with two walks and a hit batter, but Nick Wittgren came out of the 'pen and got out of the bases-loaded jam with a line out to second base. Christian Yelich put Miami on top in the bottom half of the inning with his sixth home run of the season, a two-run shot to right field. The Fish added three insurance runs in the seventh, highlighted by Giancarlo Stanton's two-run single. Derek Dietrich and Stanton led the offense with two hits each. Conley did not receive a decision despite allowing just one hit and one run, yet he allowed five walks while striking out five in 5.2 innings. Wittgren (2-1) earned the win. ELIAS SAYS... Adam Conley and a relay of four relievers limited the Rockies to one hit in the Marlins' 5-1 victory in Miami. Carlos Gonzalez's sixth-inning double off Conley was the lone Colorado hit, as Conley again flirted with history by pitching no-hit ball over the game's first five innings. It was the third time this season that Conley has started a game in that manner - the most starts of that sort in the majors. Chase Anderson, R. A. Dickey and Marco Estrada have each held their opponents without a hit through five innings in two starts this season. SUPPORTING ROLES Over his first three starts Wei-Yin Chen made at home, Miami went 0-3, providing just four total runs of support. Over his last four starts at Marlins Park, the Fish have gone 4-0, giving him 5.87 runs of support. On the season, Chen ranks 13 th among National League starters in run support average at 5.73. Tom Koehler is not far behind, as he ranks 18 th at 5.50. Jake Arrieta owns the top spot with a mark of 8.32. CLIMBING THE LADDER Ichiro Suzuki singled in his pinch-hit appearance last night against Colorado, pushing his Major League hit total to 2,980. On Wednesday, June 15 at San Diego, Ichiro unofficially passed Pete Rose's Major League hit record of 4,256 when combining his 1,278 hits with the Orix Blue Wave of Nippon Professional Baseball in Japan. Ichrio is batting.354 (45x127) this season and is just five hits away from tying Sam Rice (2,985) for 30 th on MLB's all-time hit list. WITH SKILLS OF A SAMURAI In 22 pinch-hit at-bats this season, Ichiro Suzuki has recorded seven hits for a.318 average. He ranks tied for fourth in the Majors in pinch hits, behind Phil Gosselin (9), Matt Joyce (9) and Matt Adams (8), while his on-base percentage (.423) ranks eighth and his average ranks 11 th. Coming into this season, Ichiro was hitting just.250 (21x84) in the pinchhitter role with a.308 OBP. HOME TURNAROUND Over its first eight home games this season, Miami went just 1-7 with a team batting average of.243. In that time, the offense hit just five home runs while the pitching staff owned a 5.04 ERA. Since April 21, the Marlins have posted the third-best home winning percentage in the National League at.609 (14-9), while batting.256. Over that span, the offense has clubbed 19 home runs while the staff has pitched to a 3.60 ERA. BEST AGAINST THE WEST In 176 career games against National League West clubs, Giancarlo Stanton owns a.306 average (194x635) with 52 doubles, two triples, 58 home runs, 156 RBI, a.392 on-base percentage and.668 slugging percentage. He leads all active players (min. 500 AB) in slugging percentage against the NL West, and ranks ninth in batting average and eighth in on-base percentage. His 58 home runs against the NL West rank third to Albert Pujols (93) and Ryan Howard (67) among all players who did not play for an NL West club. SHUTTING THE DOOR A.J. Ramos earned his 20 th save of the season Wednesday at Petco Park in his 20 th opportunity, extending his Club record for consecutive saves to open a season. Ramos has converted 29 straight save opportunities dating back to last season, marking the third-longest active streak among Major League relievers. Brad Ziegler has successfully converted each of his last 41 opportunities, while Familia has saved 38 straight. Ramos' current streak is the second-longest in Club history, behind Steve Cishek's 33.
