It is one of the oldest and largest drug prevention programs in the nation. It is a way for our school to unite and take a visible stand against drugs. Below are the special dress up days that MMJH will have for our students and staff: Monday, October 26: Sock It to Drugs! Wear crazy or mismatched socks. Tuesday, October 27: Pairing Up Against Drugs! Twin Day: Coordinate your outfit with someone else. Wednesday, October 28: Putting a Cap on Drugs! The Red Ribbon Week campaign started when drug traffickers murdered DEA Agent Kiki Camarena in 1985. Wear your favorite cap or hat in his honor. Thursday, October 29: Giving Drugs the Boot! Wear your favorite boots. Friday, October 30: Scaring Away Drugs! Wear your Halloween costume. Remember in order to wear your costume to school you will need to bring $3.00. Page 4 Monster Mash October is Bullying Prevention Month Schools across the country will be participating in Bully Prevention activities, and MMJH has also decided to incorporate many of the Core Essentials into our activities for October. An activity has been planned for each day in October which is simple in design and that we hope everyone will enjoy doing. We encourage you to encourage your students to participate in the activities we have planned, and the school counselors encourage you to participate in the activities as well. A student can check out an ipad to use for a school assignment for a one week period, excluding the Winter and Spring Breaks. The student s parent or legal guardian must first meet with the assistant principal to review the KISD Student/Parent Equipment Use Agreement and sign it along with the student. This document will be kept on file for the current school year. The student will be instructed on proper use and care of the borrowed equipment. Here are the guidelines: *Students can record the pages in the book they are currently reading and all future books they read this school year. The books they have read during the 1st six weeks will not be counted. * When a student have finished reading a book, they will ask their advisory teacher to initial their reading log. *When a student reaches a reading goal, he can go to the library to pick up his prize. * Extra reading logs will be in the ELA teachers' classrooms, the library, & Canvas. Page 8 PTA Reflections Contest McMeans PTA is excited to announce this year's Reflections Contest theme is "Let Your Imagination Fly". Students are invited to create and submit original works of art in six categories: dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography, and visual arts. All qualifying entries will be judged and are eligible to advance to local, state and national levels. The Reflections Contest is open to all McMeans students who have at least one PTA member in their family. Entry forms are available at the front desk and in the library. Physicals for the 2015-2016 school year MUST be administered on or after May 1, 2015. Wear your own clothes / shoes for tryouts. NO JEWELRY. Attendance at all tryouts is required. Skills tested will include: Lay-ups, shooting form, dribbling, passing, game play, sprinting, aggressiveness on the court and knowledge of the game rules.
