GAME 2 (0-1) HOME GAME 2 (0-1) TONIGHT'S BROADCASTS FSFL WINZ (940 AM) WAQI (710 AM) FISH BITES Left-hander Caleb Smith will make his first start of the season, and third of his career, in this second game of four against the visiting Chicago Cubs. Tonight's start will mark Smith's first career start against the Cubs. He will face off against Kyle Hendricks, who in four starts against Miami has gone 2-1 with one complete game and a 1.32 ERA (27.1/4). Miami concluded 2017 with a 77-85 record and second-place finish in the National League East. The Marlins have posted a 4-10 record in games following an Opening Day loss, and haven't won the second game of the season following an OD loss since 2010, when they came away with a 7-6 win in 10 innings over the Mets at Citi Field. In that game, Cameron Maybin went 1x4 with a double and one run scored. OPENING DAY VS. CUBS The Marlins fought back from an early 4-1 deficit against the visiting Chicago Cubs, but dropped the 26th opener in Franchise history by the score of 8-4. The Cubs scored three times in the first frame, and the Marlins cut the deficit to two after Brian Anderson drove in Starlin Castro with an RBI single in the bottom of the first. Chicago upped their lead to three in the top of the second with a solo tally before Miami charged back with three runs in the bottom of the third to tie the game. Derek Dietrich led off the inning with a triple, and was brought home on an RBI groundout by Justin Bour. Anderson plated the second run of the inning with another RBI single, and Garrett Cooper brought home Anderson with a single to center. The Cubs took the lead again in the fourth and scored three times in the seventh to complete the scoring. Anderson finished 2x3 with a run scored and two RBI, while Dietrich finished 2x4 with a triple and one run scored. José Ureña made the start for Miami, and in 4.0 innings allowed six hits, five runs, and four walks with two strikeouts. TOUGH TEST Based on 2017 records, Miami will have the sixth-toughest schedule in the Majors over the course of March/April, as their opponents had a combined.519 winning percentage last season.
