Good afternoon! This web site will allow you to keep up with what s going on at Palmetto. Each week Palmetto Middle School is going to post a weekly update on this page. This site will keep you informed of upcoming events, trips, dates, projects, and holidays. Please ask around to see if other parents are checking this web page for the updates. Upcoming Events and Dates: Thursday, November 13 th - Beta Club Clean Up Day 3-4:30 Monday, November 24 th -Beta Club meeting for only those attending the Beta Convention in January. November 26 th - 28 th is Thanksgiving Holidays December 23 rd - January 4 th is Christmas Holidays Thursday, December 11 th - This is the night chorus students will show off all of their hard work and preparation! Please make plans to attend--it's going to be great! All grades will perform many songs from a wide variety of areas, ending with songs to put you in the Christmas spirit! See you there! Veteran s Day Update for more information, email Mr. Guthrie at guthriet@anderson1.k12.sc.us The Palmetto Middle School Veteran's Day Program is Tuesday, November 11th. We are asking that students, faculty, and parents submit photographs of family or friends that are

veterans to be included in our tribute on Veteran's Day. Photographs can be submitted digitally to Travis Guthrie at guthriet@anderson1.k12.sc.us or you can bring photographs to your homeroom teachers. Photographs need to be submitted by Thursday, October 30 to be included in the presentation. Veteran's Program, Tuesday, November 11th. Program will start at 9:00am in the Gym. Invite a Veteran! There will be a breakfast for Veteran's beginning at 8:00am in our cafeteria. Thanks for your assistance in supporting our Veterans! Palmetto Middle School's Mustang Chorale Palmetto Middle School's eighth grade chorus students attended Southern Wesleyan University's annual choral festival, SWUfest Too, on October 31. Students performed two selections at the festival and featured soloist, Tina Snider. Palmetto Middle's Mustang Chorale is directed by Mr. Jared Fricks. Chorus Update Newsletter: Sounds of the Seasons Concert December 11 at 7:30 pm The December concert is just around the corner! We continue to prepare each day for an awesome performance! We had to make a time change from 7:00 to 7:30 due to a scheduling conflict. All students will need to be at the school by 7:00 pm on the night of the concert to receive full credit. The dress code for the concert is all black, which is common for a fine art event. Students will need to wear black pants and a black shirt. Ladies may wear school appropriate black dresses or skirts. If possible, please try to wear shirts that are free of logos or distracting pictures/text. Black shoes are preferable for the performance. ***In preparation for the concert, we will have two after school rehearsals on WEDNESDAYS DECEMBER 3 rd AND DECEMBER 10 th FROM 3:15 5:00. All students need to make plans to attend these rehearsals and be picked up at 5:00 at the school. Beta Club Events- November 2014 November 13 th Beta Club Clean Up Day Sign up outside Lancaster s room (We need to recruit teachers to assist-provide subway for those teachers.) Beta Club has purchased military flags. November 17 th (Monday) Cookie Dough Delivered!!! Yearbook Information: Orders will be handled the same way as last year. Parents may order yearbooks online or return the order form with their money enclosed in the envelope to the school during open sale dates. Another open sale will be announced at a later date. If you choose to order by form/envelope, you may mail it in to Jostens at any time. Parents please go ahead and place your order now because the price of the yearbook will increase closer to distribution date in May!

"Walking Wednesday's" dates are: November 12 th, December 10 th, January 14 th, February 11 th, March 11 th, April 8 th, and May 13 th.

Students should check the weather the night before Walking Wednesday s so they can dress accordingly. Palmetto s Finest Updates Palmetto s Finest Cards get you in free to all C-Team HOME football games and front of the lunch line EVERYDAY YDAY! Palmetto s Finest Qualifications for the 2 nd Nine Weeks Please email Mr. Knight at knightb@anderson1.k12.sc.us if you have any questions. To earn Palmetto's Finest you must meet the following criteria: 1) All grades 80's and above 2) No demerits for the nine week period 3) No more than 2 unexcused absences. 4) Complete community service hours 10 hours of service are required for the first quarter. Students simply record the hours they volunteer, the service they provided, and have the supervisor sign and record their phone number. Guidelines for hours 1. Ten hours of community service is required each nine weeks. 2. No more than four (4) hours of service can be directly related to any family member. 3. Completed service hours are due to your Homeroom teacher on the last day of the quarter. A minimum of ten hours of community service is required for each quarter of school. Palmetto s Finest Guidelines 2014-2015 Rewards 1. Front of the lunch line everyday with your current card. 2. The opportunity to take a trip to a movie, bowling, Frankie s Fun Park or some other incredible location. 3. Free admission to all C-Team home athletic events by showing your current Palmetto s Finest Card. 4. A Palmetto s finest bumper sticker shows everyone how incredible you really are. 5. Students who are Palmetto s Finest the entire year will be honored at Awards Day. 6. Students who are Palmetto s Finest the entire year have the opportunity for another trip (In the past they have gone to Six Flags!). 7. Other unannounced privileges/surprises during the school year. Requirements for each quarter 1. All class averages must be 80 and above (77 and above in accelerated classes). 2. No demerits or office referrals. 3. No more than 2 absences or being tardy more than 3 times. 4. 10 approved hours of community service. Guidelines for Community Service Hours 1. Ten hours of community service are required each nine weeks. 2. No more than three hours of service can be directly related to any family member. 3. One hour of service to the school is required. Examples: assisting with breakfast, bulletin boards, and/or teachers before/after school. 4. Completed service hours are due to your homeroom teacher by the following dates: Oct. 21, Jan. 14, Mar. 24, Jun 1. 5 Failure to submit this form by the due date voids your opportunity to become Palmetto s Finest. 6. Students record the date, describe their service provided, and have the supervisor sign and record their phone number. 7. Parents must sign the form to verify the completed information. 8. All community service hours are subject to rejection if the hours cannot be verified. Hours earned for donation of requested items to the school 5 cans of food = 1 hour of service (2 hours max = 10 cans) 20 Box Tops for Education = 1 hour (2 hours max = 40 box tops) Maximum total hours for items donated = 4 hours
