Not good for cycling. Thanks again to everyone who helped make 2013 another great year for the SIW club and looking forward to 2014. Soon we ll be complaining it s too hot. Can t wait!! Watch your ride schedules, the newsletter, and web-site for upcoming rides and events like the Cherry Pie Ride and the Easter Egg Ride. Maybe thinking about these will help warm us up. Be safe, keep warm, and God Bless. Paul Beach If you are a bicyclist in the Southern Indiana/Louisville area and would like to ride with a great group of people with similar interests, come check us out! Just pick up a Southern Indiana Wheelmen or Slowspokes ride schedule from the Clarksville Schwinn bicycle shop. If you have any questions, please contact one of the club officers or visit our web site at www.siwheelmen.org.

January 1, 2014 turned out to be a great day for a bike ride. 19 SIW riders were thankful for a respite from the cold winter weather to enjoy riding through some of the beautiful roads in the Knobs of Southern Indiana. One of the riders, Pat Simms, had just rejoined the club after many years away. Welcome back Pat and we hope to see you out riding many times in the coming year. After the ride another 10 members joined the riders at the home of Bryan and Marla Huhnerkoch for some delicious food and lively conversation. Bryan Huhnerkoch 2014 Kentucky Century Challenge The Kentucky Department Tourism will again be sponsoring a Kentucky Century Challenge in 2014. There have been some changes to the challenge this year. Riders will need to complete all 4 centuries in order to receive a free jersey. Riders completing three centuries can purchase a jersey for $ 30. The four centuries are listed below: Redbud Ride London, KY April 12 Horsey Hundred Georgetown, KY May 24 Preservation Pedal Winchester, KY June 21 Hub City Tour Elizabethtown, KY September 13 The website indicates the registration for the challenge will open on February 1 and will close on April 7. They also indicate that they may cap registrations this year. Here is the website address for the Challenge: http://www.kentuckytourism.com/outdoor-adventure/centurychallenge.aspx The registration is already open for the Red Bud Ride. The web address is: www.redbudride.com At this time we plan to have all of the rides listed on the Wheelmen Schedule. Bryan Huhnerkoch

6 th Annual Florida Bike Tour On January 25, with temperatures in the mid 20 s, eighteen members of our club departed Louisville leaving behind 3 inches of ice and snow to arrive safely in Kissimmee with temperatures in the mid 60 s. It was wonderful to be riding out of the cold weather. Our first ride was on the Gainesville/Hawthorne Trail. Our temporary home in Kissimmee, allows for convenient access to the trails in Winter Garden, Groveland and Clermont, Apopka, Polk City and Dundee. The temperatures ranged from 53 degrees to a high of 82 degrees which was a refreshing change from the foul weather in Louisville/Southern Indiana. The best stuffed vehicle award goes to Jan and Len Stahlgren whose pickup truck was filled with bikes, meals, clothes and other items we dare not mention. Jan and Bernie Campbell was a close second with 12 prepared meals (no grocery shopping for Jan) and Dave Rausch rounded out the top three. (Go Cards) The highlight of the trip was Susie Peters dressed in Paul Gruber s pants. (Susie P s mid-weight riding pants were buried in her luggage when she arrived at Gainesville. Paul G had a spare pair of mid-weight pants which she borrowed. Susie is now looking for 1 white sock, Paul is unable to help.)

Guess Who, Where, When? Send your answer to Phyllis Lewis by May 5, 2014. All correct entries will be entered for a $5.00 gift certificate drawing from the bike shop. Happy Birthday Paul Vice February 8 th If you would like to have your birthday listed in the newsletter, please email your birth date to plewis1950@gmail.com. The next newsletter will be for May/June. Please email before April 20 th
