LHP Jarlin García is making just his second Major League start and fourth appearance of the season. He has no record and 1.13 ERA in 16.0 innings pitched in 2018 (2 er). New York is countering with Masahiro Tanaka, who is making his second career start against Miami. He suffered a loss June 15, 2015 at Marlins Park, allowing two runs and nine hits over 7.0 innings. The Marlins entered this trip coming off a 1-5 homestand against the New York Mets (0-3) and Pittsburgh Pirates (1-2). The current road trip will have the Marlins enjoy an off-day tomorrow before opening a four-game series in Milwaukee on Thursday. Following that series, the Club will travel west to take on the Los Angeles Dodgers for a three-game series from Monday-Wednesday. LAST NIGHT'S RECAP Miami dropped a 12-1 decision to the New York Yankees. The offense was held to just one hit through the first six innings, a Miguel Rojas double in the fourth, before collecting two in the seventh. The Marlins only run was scored on Justin Bour's RBI ground-out in the eighth. Rojas recorded two of Miami's five hits, with the others coming off the bats of Bour, Tomás Telis and Bryan Holaday. TODAY'S TRANSACTION The Marlins returned from rehab and reinstated C J.T. Realmuto from the 10-day disabled list and optioned C Chad Wallach to Triple-A New Orleans. In one rehab game with Single-A Jupiter, Realmuto went 3x3 with three runs scored, a double, one home run and one RBI. For his career, Realmuto has posted a.280 average (423x1511) with 84 doubles, 13 triples, 38 home runs and 169 RBI. VS. YANKEES These two teams last met in 2015, with each team sweeping two-game home series; Miami from June 15-16 at Marlins Park, and the Yankees from June 17-18 at Yankee Stadium. The Marlins have been winners in only two of 11 regular season games at Yankee ballparks, yet only trail the all-time series, 11-14. UP NEXT Following tomorrow's off-day, the Marlins will open a four-game weekend series against the Milwaukee Brewers Thursday. The entire 2017 season series between the two teams took place at Miller Park, as Miami's home series from September 15-17 was moved to Milwaukee due to hurricane Irma. The Marlins dropped the series, 2-4, coming away with one win in each series. Miami is 28-33 overall at Miller Park (31-39 all-time in Milwaukee), and trail the all-time series, 69-71. INTERLEAGUE NOTES The Marlins went 9-11 in Interleague Play last season, their best record against the American League since going 13-7 in 2014. This season, Miami is 0-3 after a two-game series against the Red Sox at Marlins Park from April 2-3, and last night's contest against the Yankees. Miami has an overall record of 184-189 (.493) against the AL all-time, the sixthbest record among all National League teams. The Mets are on top with a 185-177 record (.511), and are followed by the Cardinals (170-165;.507), Cubs (167-168;.499), Braves (178-181;.496), and Giants (176-180;.494). Miami's 184 wins are third to only the Washington (186) and the Mets in the NL. Miami's opponent tonight, the New York Yankees, rank second among all Major League teams since the start of Interleague Play in wins (227) and winning percentage (.593). Miami leads all National League teams in hits (3,382), doubles (676), runs scored (1,717) and RBI (1,629) since Interleague Play began. MARLINS AND THE DH Marlins designated hitters have combined for a.246 (184x748) mark, with 20 home runs, in 187 Interleague games all time; the 184 hits are the second-most among NL teams, behind only St. Louis (197). Last season, Miami s designated hitters posted a.275 mark (11x40) with two doubles, two home runs and six RBI in 10 games. Miami's 11 hits by a DH were tied for the fourth-most among all NL teams (with the Cubs), behind Philadelphia (12), San Diego (12) and San Francisco (12). Current Marlins to appear as a DH are JB Shuck (30 G,.260; 20x77, 1 HR, 7 RBI), Bryan Holaday (7 G,.500; 3x6), Justin Bour (6 G,.273; 6x22, 2 RBI), Cameron Maybin (4 G,.000; 0x4), J.T. Realmuto (4 G,.267; 4x15), Tomás Telis (3 G,.250; 3x12), Starlin Castro (2 G,.625; 5x8, 1 RBI), and Derek Dietrich (1 G,.250; 1x4) GARCIA'S GRACE In his first career start, April 17 against the Mets at Marlins Park, Jarlin García became the first Major League pitcher to throw 6.0-or-more no-hit innings in his first career start since Ross Stripling of the Dodgers on April 18, 2016 at San Francisco (7.1 ip). He is the only pitcher in Marlins history to go as many as 6.0 innings in his starting debut without allowing a hit (Elias). Three times has a Marlins starter gone 6.0 innings with only one hit allowed, the last being Brad Hand in a 1-0 loss to Atlanta on June 7, 2011 at Sun Life Stadium. HITS THE ROAD Since the start of 2016, J.T. Realmuto has hit at a.333 clip (188x564) on the road, marking the second-highest road average in the National League and third-highest in the Majors. Only Jose Altuve (.379; 245x646) and Daniel Murphy (.337; 187x555) have better averages on the road. The Major League average on the road is.250 in that same span. MIGGY RO-LLING Miguel Rojas has hit in each of his last nine games, extending his career-long single-season hitting streak. He had a career-best 10-game streak spanning from September 25, 2017- April 1, 2018. Over his current streak, Rojas is batting.361 (13x36) with a double, two home runs and three RBI. He has posted a.364 average (12x33) in the two spot in the order, the four-highest average among two-hole hitters in the Majors, behind Joe Mauer (.412), Christian Yelich (.385), and Asdrúbal Cabrera (.381). Over his last 106 games dating back to the start of last season, he has hit.293 (98x335) with 19 doubles, two triples, three home runs and 30 RBI. ACCOLADES ABOUND Single-A Jupiter's Joe Dunand yesterday was named the Florida State League's Player of the Week for April 5-15. Dunand hit.372 (16x43) with three doubles, one triple, two home runs, 12 runs scored and 13 RBI in 10 games. He currently leads the FSL in hits and total bases (27), is tied for the league lead in runs scored, ranks second in RBI, and eighth in average and slugging percentage (.628). -ING IT ON MARLINS NOTES THIS DAY IN MARLINS HISTORY APRIL 17 Luis Castillo swiped three bags in Florida's 7-3 victory over the Phillies in Philadelphia in 2003. In his career with the Marlins, Castillo stole three or more bases in a game 10 times, marking the most in Franchise history. Castillo was 3x5 in the game with two runs scored and an RBI.
