The 12th Hong Kong Synergy 24 Drum Competition A. Sections 1. Schools (Greater China) a. Kindergarten and Primary School b. Middle/Secondary School and Tertiary Institute For choreography of actions, participating teams may choose any combination from Routine 1 to Routine 24 of the original and the new versions of Hong Kong Synergy 24 Drumming Routines. They may arrange the drum scores as they think fit, but the duration must not exceed 6 minutes. 2. Special School and Rehabilitation Organization Section * For choreography of actions, participating teams may choose any combination from Routine 1 to Routine 24 of the original and the new versions of Hong Kong Synergy 24 Drumming Routines. They may arrange the drum scores as they think fit, but the duration must not exceed 6 minutes. * The registration fee will be waived if the participating team comes from a special school/ rehabilitation organization/ charity which is registered in Hong Kong. 3. Senior Section ** Participants must be over 60 years of age or belong to a registered organization for the elderly. Each participating team is limited to a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 50 persons. For choreography of actions, participating teams may choose any combination from Routine 1 to Routine 24 of the original and the new versions of Hong Kong Synergy 24 Drumming Routines. They may arrange the drum scores as they think fit, but the duration must not exceed 6 minutes. ** The registration fee will be waived if the participating team comes from an organization for the elderly/ charity registered in Hong Kong. 4. Newcomers Section *** Each participating team is limited to a minimum of 4. For choreography of actions, participating teams may choose any combination from Routine 1 to Routine 8 of the original and the new versions of Hong Kong Synergy 24 Drumming Routines. They may arrange the drum scores as they think fit, but the duration must not exceed 6 minutes. *** Participants must have no previous record of winning any prizes in the past sessions of the Hong Kong Synergy 24 Drum Competition. 1
5. Designated Repertoire Section a. Rolling Walnuts by Wang Baocan and Hao Shixun Each Participating team should consist of no less than 4 members. The performance b. The Ox Fighting the Tiger by Wang Guojie, arranged by Wang Baocan. Each Participating team should consist of no less than 2 members. The performance c. Flying Dragons and Jumping Tigers (Excerpts) by Li Minxiong, arranged by Yim Hok-man and Ronald Chin. Each Participating team should consist of no less than 5 members. The performance 6. Creative Presentation Section Participating teams may choose any drum score and routines or devise his/her own score, but the duration must not exceed 7 minutes. - New Best Arrangement Award - The arranger of the awarded Best Arrangement will sign a co-operation agreement with the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra. The agreement also includes that the same participants/team cannot use the same arrangement work to take part in the Competition in the future. (Can use the same team name, but constituent members must be different.) 7. King of Drums Challenge (This is open to all drummers who have reached professional standards.) This section is for individuals. Participants may choose any drum score and routines or devise his/her own, but the duration should not exceed 7 minutes. Before 26 August 2014, each participant should mail video tape of his/her performance (must not have any editing and special effects) to the Organizer for an audition. Chosen participants will be informed to take part in the Competition held in Hong Kong. 2
B. Notes 1. Each school/organization may have more than one team participating in the event, but constituent members in each must be different. 2. Each participating team may choose any combination of Chinese drums, regardless of size and type. However, only Chinese drums may be used. Drums of any other ethnic origins will not be accepted. 3. Participating teams may design their own costumes, group formations and staging of their performance, subject to the final approval of the HKCO. 4. Other than the Designated Repertoire Section, all participating teams should submit the newly arranged scores to the Judges 2 weeks before the competition for reference. # The Organizer reserves the right to disqualify any participant/participating team for violation of the above. G. Awards For each section: 1. Champion: HK$3,000 and trophy 2. First Runner-up : HK$1,500 and trophy 3. Second Runner-up : HK$1,000 and trophy Each participant/participating team in any sections will receive a certificate. King of Drums Challenge Winner: HK$3,000 and trophy, and the chance of an artist contract as a soloist with the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra. (The offer is subject to the final decision of the Organizer.) H. Deadline for Registration 5 September, 2013 I. How to Register 1. Completed Registration Forms should be submitted with a registration fee of HK$300 (to be EITHER in the form of a cheque made payable to "Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra Limited" OR by direct deposit into the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra's banking account at Hang Seng Bank: 388-487-688-001). 2. Music scores and video demonstrations for both versions of Hong Kong Synergy 24 Drumming Routines (in VCD format) and the New Hong Kong Synergy 24 Drumming Routines (in DVD format) will be available from the Organiser. If needed, teams performing the Compulsory Scores of Rolling Walnuts, The Ox Fighting the Tiger and Flying Dragon and Leaping Tiger may request for the relevant scores from the Organiser.
