1 Singapore Lyric Opera ASEAN Vocal Competition 2018 The SLO- ASEAN Vocal Competition, first established and organized by the Singapore Lyric Opera in 2016, was first of its kind in Singapore and the region. This bi-annual event will be held again this year! The Competition s main aim is to promote Western Opera across all facets of the community within the region by providing a platform to facilitate cultural exchanges through music and recognising as well as rewarding aspiring musical talents of all ages. All South-east Asian citizens and permanent residents regardless of age and singing ability are welcome to send in their applications for Singapore Lyric Opera South East Asian Vocal Competition. Stand to win over $30,000 in cash prizes. The semifinal and final round of this competition will take place from October 27-28, 2018 at the School of the Arts Concert Hall, Singapore. 2 Eligibility Nationality Auditions are open to all citizens or permanent residents of ASEAN-region countries: Brunei Cambodia Indonesia Laos Malaysia Myanmar Singapore The Philippines Thailand Vietnam All applicants will be required to prove their citizenship/permanent residency status with supporting documents submitted together with their applications. Failure to comply will render an application incomplete and invalid. The applicant will not be considered a participant of the competition. Age Adhering strictly to the age limits, applicants may enter into one of the following categories: Category Age Limit Professional years as of 1st January 2018 Open* 16 years and above as of 1st January 2018 Senior 50 years and above as of 1st January 2018 Junior Secondary* years as of 1st January 2018 Junior Primary* 7-11 years as of 1st January 2018 *Participants below 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent/ guardian at all times.

3 Video Entry (Preliminary Round) Please prepare the following materials for submission: 1. Completed Application Form. 2. Photocopy of applicant s passport 3. Photocopy of Proof of Citizenship / Permanent Residency (i.e. National Registration Identity Card) 4. A high-quality photo (min. 1 MB) of the applicant. 5. Video recording: ONE video no longer than 5 minutes (Update: Applicants for the Professional Category may submit ONE entry no longer than 10 minutes). All applicants must introduce their name and title(s) of aria/song prior to singing in the video entry. Submission format: DVD by mail or YouTube link via . Recording requirement: The video must show the applicants face clearly; a frozen camera position throughout is preferred. Please ensure that the quality of recording is discernible; volume should be adequate. Video editing of any kind is strictly not allowed. Audio in the applicant s entry must be acoustic and MAY NOT be amplified (the microphone used for recording must not include amplification, mixing or any kind of sound enhancement). Recordings with editing and/or amplification will be automatically disqualified. Repertoire requirement for video recording: Professional Category: 2 contrasting Western Operatic arias. Open Category: 1 Western Operatic arias. Senior Category: 1 Western Operatic arias. Junior Category (Primary and Secondary): 1 song (must be a NONoperatic piece). 6. A biographical paragraph between words. 7. Non-refundable application fee of SGD$130 for Professional Category and SGD$80 for the other categories. See next page for payment details.

5 Semi-Final Round and Final Round Competitors who are selected to participate in the semi-finals will be notified by no later than 24 September, Finalists for the Final Round will be announced after the Semi-Final Round. Semi-Final Round: 27 October 2018 Final Round: 28 October 2018 SOTA School of The Arts (SOTA Concert Hall) 1 Zubir Said Drive Singapore All selected semi-finalists and finalists will be required to be physically present in Singapore on the indicated dates at the venue without exception. All applicants are required to clearly state their repertoire choices in the application form, including title of music and composer.

6 Other Information Accompanists and Rehearsals SLO will provide accompanists for both the Semi-final and Final rounds. Singers are at their liberty to bring their own accompanists at their own expenses. One rehearsal with the assigned accompanist will be provided free of charge, prior to the Semi-final round and the Final round. Judging Applicants will be judged by a panel comprising judges from Singapore, the ASEAN countries and the region. Judges reserve the right to terminate performances after 3 minutes. The Singapore Lyric Opera reserves the right to record all performances for archival and publicity purposes. Judges decisions are final and no correspondence will be entertained following announcement of results. The Semi-final and Final rounds are open to the public. Order of Appearance The order of appearance in the Final Round will be determined by a random drawing on 27 th October 2018 by the selected finalists.
